  1. Sheep Poop here...I've been told that they do grow out of it. Bella's 9 months old now, so not looking great
  2. Bella has just started adolescence too...she's 8 months old now and I've simply started being more disciplinary (OH doesn't help though ). Nekhbet has good advice. You really have to be consistent to crack this one. (don't tell anyone, but that's where we're having trouble ) EFS
  3. Thanks everyone. I think I understand. Leo you actually answered a few more questions that I had. Thanks.
  4. Thanks Kavik. I missed the bit about the toy. It may be a table. I haven't started agility yet. I haven't even gone to formal obedience classes Can't afford it at the moment She's not old enough for agility anyway.
  5. I intend to do agility, so I was thinking for the pause box. So, drop on recall?
  6. Any advice on teaching drop on the run? I've tried the 'drop' command whilst walking, but unless I stand still, she doesn't get it...
  7. First of all, welcome to DOL. Secondly, feel free to visit this thread and add pictures of your puppy. There are many cavalier owners here so no end of people to talk to about your passion for your pup. ETA thread link: http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=96578
  8. Great to hear that the op went well. Please keep us updated on Sandi. She sounds wonderful
  9. I had suggested to me one of those hip bands/belt thingys. The fabric ones that girls would wear a while back. Sounds like a good idea to me. When Bella was desexed I found a knitted doggy jumper that was long enough to cover her stitches when she sat down to lick herself. It worked well and I still use it for cold nights.
  10. Hold the pup under the belly (support) and say stand. Treat with other hand...
  11. Bella also does this. I've also done all of the things you've suggested including putting gates in front of the door, so she can't scratch. I'm also still at a loss. Bella never seems to tire. Like it's a fun game. I've also tried distraction and sending her to her mat or bed. So far, no luck.
  12. Bella was outside when I started watching this. Next thing her head poked round the screen with a concerned look, then she came and sat next to my shoulder as if she was protecting me from the mean barking doggy You'll definitely have to get him another one now
  13. :D haha Emily you slacker... That'll teach you to let him get away with stuff because he's just so little and cute. Yeah...stick FIRMLY to NILIF and do some more obedience training with him. Speaking from experience, whenever you think they know what they are/are not meant to do...they prove you wrong ETA: consistence is the key!
  14. HOLY CRAP!!! It only took Bella 2 clicks to work out how it went. She noe heels and looks at me when I give the command. Unbelievable!!!
  15. I just bought a clicker...I'm meant to go to Uni at 4, but I'm gonna stay home and play (she doesn't even realise she's learning) with Bella instead Will let you know how I go...
  16. Try standing on the lead. Not so you're choking him, but just so his feet can't leave the floor. Worked with Bella. Once he learns to sit on command, you could just say "sit". But until then, stand on the lead and ignore jumping. Perhaps by putting him in a room by himself until he calms down, then try again.
  17. I use this too...good price and it smells great for ages.
  18. Bella was quite withdrawn at the first 2 puppy classes, then by the third, she wouldn't pay attention to me because she was too busy playing with everyone else... So yes, I'd say that it's normal cav behaviour. Do you use a flat collar or a harness on walks? I use a harness which gives me a bit more control over where she is...I also kepp the leash very short, so that she stays near my leg at all times. Roos ideas seem good aswell. Having the pup see you as the be-all-end-all is definitely the best method. Remember to reward for attention to you. It'll work well.
  19. Okay, I was, and still am, very prone to car sickness. The only way I avoid it nowadays is by driving myself. But as a child, my dad would swear by the brown paper bag method. I'm not exactly sure, but from memory the thing was B****y annoying, I think it works by distracting you from the trip by annoying the C**p out of you...well, that's my thoughts.
  20. Took Bella to PP too. Was excellent. Really posted to say hope the wedding goes well.
  21. Bella has recently begun pulling. She used to walk by my side. I have used the stop method (where you stand still and pay no attention to the pup until they return to you and sit) but it isn't working (have been trying for nearly 6 weeks). Suggestions?
  22. Thanks everyone for your replies!! Haven - thank you, excellent advice. I think it must have just been that she wasn't settled in and didn't like the overwhelming attention (particularly from the kids). She has since stopped growling when being picked up altogether...thanks again for your advice!!!
  23. yep, that's the way I do it...I'm still not sure why she's growling. Am I over-thinking it? It seems like it may be a dominance thing, and to be sure I've stopped her from being higher or equal to me by doing things like stopping her from sleeping on my bed, not playing with her at her level (ie. lying on the floor) etc. I tell her "ah-ah" when she does it and quickly put her back down. Does this sound like the way to stop it?
  24. Is 12 weeks too young to start TOT? She sits before getting her dinner, but won't take her eyes off the bowl...
