Hitting The Ring For The First Time
Nevafollo replied to angelsophie's topic in General Dog Discussion
HEHE we will be there sat and sunday I think, we will be the people sitting near the toy ring with 2 x pug and 1 x pointer. We seem to draw a lot of whispers about a pointer being round the toy ring but funny thing is she is better behaved than half the dogs round the toy ring infact people wouldnt know we had her if they did see us walking her around....some people are weird, where do they expect us to sit? -

Glad we didnt enter this weekend because quite frankly the white and orange pointee is white and orange no more! She very dirty from all the dust and has been digging a few trenches lately! Our next shows are a pug specialty but none of you will be at that LOL then 17th and 18th of october(at hillsborough), then 24th and 25th up at port mac, should be a good weekend away! We are staying in a cabin and everything! -

So whos doing Morriset next weekend? -
Honestly it is very hard to say, especially now I'm so used to the hair LOL! Our guys are groomed once a fortnight (if we have a show if not its once a month) and hair gets blown out with the dryer and I have also started using and old school stripping brush that seems to get alot of the hair out. Even with all that they still loose hair just not as much as some. Would be more hair lose than a whippet but far less than a husky LOL! Thank you for your reply! I am a little worried I might have base ball sized fluff bunnies running around the floor like My British Shorthair cat likes to leave behind! I never notice Rommi's hair, if I get some on my clothes I attack her with a zoom groom outside in the sun. I have never noticed her hair on the floor. The good thing is a fawn pug's hair ia about the same colour as my tiles, and I have a leather lounge so no concerns there. We are planning to try and visit some breeders soon so as to get a better idea, oh and to get snorted at and sneezed on as well! This is your best bet...give them a big cuddle (the pug not the breeder) and see if you can cope with the ammount of hair that sticks to your clothes!

We have always used "off" as our command for the dogs to get off the lounge ect. We used drop for obedience, for getting them in the drop position. We dont use down. That probably doesnt help you much but its what works for us.

hello sammy i'm new to this pug forum, and we have just got ourselves a male black and tan pug named snuffles, cause, well, that's what he does. i was just reading yours and everyone elses answers to the questions. in question 6 - you said that your boarder collies will play fetch and the pug has no idea about it.......... well.............i'm very proud to say, that when snuffles was 8 weeks old, I taught him how to fetch. i am so proud of him and myself. i first noticed that he would try his hardest to bring back a tennis ball, by just carrying the fluffy part of the ball in his mouth. so i kept going with his toys, and balls, and he now loves it and gets so excited when we play fetch. and i laughed so much about how they have no idea when they are tired. just too much to miss out on. we call it "tired eyes". not quite shut, just open enough to see whats happening, but no way go to sleep. and the tinyest noise, bump, key in the door, the car door, the cat meowing, will wake them up. ok thanks for listening. Good for you, congrads also on your new family member, I never said it was impossible for pugs to learn fetch just that our guys dont tend to do the fetch thing, Chase our boy will fetch but doesnt like to bring back LOL

I have two pugs, a black male and a fawn male. I am only very new to the pug world, as I only got my little terrors a month ago (they are now 12 weeks) but whilst researching the breed, I did notice a few forums and sites that stated a difference in personality types between the two. and i have found that my two seem to fall under each type. My fawn is a bit couch-potato-ish, sensitive, and cuddly, and my black pug is quite skittish, much more energetic, less cuddly, and pretty naughty :D but as i said, i am very new to pugs myself, so I would like advice on this matter too! Yes there is generally a big difference between the two colours. When I was first getting into pugs I asked a breeder and she said "blacks are special, out of this world kind of special" After owning a couple of each colour I definately lean towards the blacks. They are incrediabley naughty when babies and are extra crazy, they are double the crazy strength of a fawn. When fawns mature they just become snuggy couch potatos which is great but blacks still seem to have the same "fire" or "full on character" as they did as a baby. I've been trying for a while to put my finger on what it is that draws me to the blacks maybe its their very special way of bonding with and loving their owner. For example, my first black who is sadly no longer with us used to sit in bed at night and stare at me, abit freaky and stalkerish especially if i woke up and saw him sitting there staring and my current girl does this weird slow motion thing when she doesn't think I'm looking and she literally creeps closer and closer to me in slow motion. Maybe its actually that they are way smarter and cuter than fawns I'm not sure what it is but it has me hooked! I'm not sure if I am making any sence the best way for someone to understand it is to eventually own one of each colour! Owning a black pug is definately an experience every pug lover should have! But be warned everything you thought you knew about they way pugs are will fly right out the window

so sorry Rip Bella

Kites last show in baby will be the hillsborough one at the begining of september and we are hoping that with all the training we are doing something in her head might click by then, her biggest issue atm is she loves all the dogs too much so as soon as she has to go in the ring with any other dogs she totally forgets how to run properly, silly goose! -
Can I ask those who show their frenchie wether any particular colour does better? like in pugs the fawns are favored by judges over blacks. EDITED...used the wring word!

Hey guys glad everyone is going well, I think our next big shows are hillsbrough and morriset? So will probably see a few of you at them then I think we are off and out to Kootingal (near tamworth sorta) which should be a fun little adventure LOL! -
A freind of mine has just gotten a Shar Pei puppy (I suspect NOT from a proper breeder despite my ranting and raving about going to a good breeder) What can you tell me about what they should and shouldn't be feeding her? I've heard they shouldn't have beef or something like that is that true?

Whoops, looks like I am telling a wee little fib, I wont be at the 15th show because the 15th is my bday cant be stuffed showing on my Bday! But the hillsbrough and morisset shows that are on in september I will definately be at! Yes pugs are always well represented at the newcastle area shows usually there is between 15 and 35+ the average seems to be about 25ish. Apparently (from what I've been told) the judge who was at morisset is a good pug judge so I'm assuming that the entries would have been in the high 20's. I have the catalogue with Toby's first ribbon so I can tell you Hubby said he though one placed well in group??? I was too busy rolling my eyes at my puppy who wouldnt stack in baby of group but promptly left the ring and stacked at my feet Yeah if ou have the dogalouge and dont mind counting them up I'd love to know how many were entered. You hubby is probably right, usually seeings pugs are so well represented atleast one will do well at group level! -

Morgan won Baby Puppy of Breed by default. Went in for the group line up and she was solid as a rock - stacked perfectly and everyone commented how well she looked after we got out. Sammy B can attest to it that the Wei pup literally took two steps into the ring and was awarded the sash. Thems the breaks of showing a rare breed. Yep, was the same the day before the judge hadnt even let mum and the guy with the wei get their dogs stacked and had given group to the toller pup, sorta sucked but personally I think as far as baby puppy goes it was a quality line up both days. Kite also won by default BUT she worked her buns off both days and ran and stacked great, little bit more fine tuning and I think/hope she will be in the winners circle.
