I finally got my DSLR back late Friday so I'm back on board with the 52 weeks of selfies and will start trying to catch up. I'd like to say I'll do two a week until I'm in line with everyone else but I'm not sure how realistic that is.

It's been a while since I've commented so I'm going to go back a few pages or I'll be here forever..

  3. They're not carrying sidearms designed to drop powerful large dogs. My guess is that was part of the issue.

a gun can kill a person.

It can certainly kill a dog if the shooters aim is good.

What a silly thing to say

Know a lot about firearms do you Flaves?

Where's the "kill shot" on a big dog with a 38 police issue revolver(pretty sure it was a revolver he used)? Please dont say the head. Dogs skulls are far stronger than ours. Dogs also don't stand upright, displaying their vital organs for a police officer trained to put a shot into the torso to get a fatal shot. They are also not really good at comprehending "stop or I'll shoot".

He needed a high calibre hunting rifle - he didn't have one. Results were what you saw.

FYI no police force I know has tranquiliser darts and rifles or the skill to estimate the appropriate dose on an animal at large in public. Generally only a vet would have that skill.

Tasers on the other hand? Very useful in these situations and they are used on dogs.

Guns kill well people with guns do. we know that

maybe the officer needed to take longer to aim?

I dont know other than he hit the dog twice and it was then squealing in pain

i was pretty sure when watching the vid the dog was side on when shot...surely shooting it from the side through the chest could have killed it?

I just think it could have been handled better

  4. Is the size of the kibble bigger in adult than puppy?

No, it's the same. Most dogs are fine with it. Most, if not all, of the top premium brand kibbles are a similiar size. Cheap, inferior brands mainly have the large kibble.

I've used 3 different super premium brands other than Black Hawk and Black Hawk has been the smallest kibble by far.

Yes it is small but not a huge amount smaller than some of the others i have used.

  5. I wouldnt show a dog with missing teeth.

That may just be me though

If a breed allows missing teeth go for it, but if you are breeding with an animal that has missing teeth, then you are more than likely passing that on to their progeny (if missing teeth are not allowed)

    From the GSD breed standard

The dentition must be strong, healthy and complete (42 teeth conforming to the dentition

formula) the German Shepherd Dog has a scissor bite that is, the incisors must fit scissor-like

to each other so that the incisors of the upper jaw overlap those of the lower jaw in a scissor

fashion. Level, over or undershot bites are faulty, as well as large gaps between the teeth. It is

a fault when the incisors are placed in a straight line in the gums. The jawbones must be

strongly developed so that the teeth are embedded deeply in the gum line.

According to that, a gsd must have full dentition.

In the specialist ring it is allowed IF there is a tooth cert and the tooth missing is from an injury

  6. Yes Flaves that is sad. But is the beagle injured? Is it maimed and dying in the background while we all worry about the welfare of the offending dog? Which would've been dispatched asap.

We need to have a think about where our compassion is aimed here.

Loose dogs in the act of attacking animals and rushing people, on those people's own private property. Having been there, done that and taken too many hits from too many ratbag dogs, I would have no hesitation in shooting first. No way a cop or ranger should have to risk serious injury to themselves, anotehr person or another animal to protect the welfare of an attacking dog.

The dog attacking sheep analogy still holds. Who here would question a farmer shooting dogs in a sheep paddock? Yet so many will question this. And so little concern voiced for the beagle...

    Oh i totally agree.

I dont have an issue with the dog being shot. Just how it was done, it didnt seem to be a 'clean' kill for want of a better term - that is what i found sad.

  7. Also having spines x rayed for hemi vertebra and patellas checked

They are great dogs, i am lucky to have 2 of them in my life - they belong to my housemates and are brilliant dogs

You need to watch them in the heat - not a dog you could leave outside on a 38 degree day IMO
