  1. My photos are crap! I am removing them and only looking this year!

Nah kidding but mine ARE shit compared to some of them

I am all of a sudden having trouble getting sharpness with my 7d, i am not sure if it is the lens, the settings or me. maybe all 3?

What settings are you using and are you shooting in RAW?

Not in RAW - but i can change that if it helps

I think i have worked it out though - i will have a play tomorrow and see.

And then i will pic your brains! Thankyou for asking because when i checked what it was i had it on AI Focus and i usually shoot on AI Servo

Not sure if that is the issue

  2. I don't think your girl pup is Ellie Flaves - no white on this Ellie's chest... could have been another littermate though by the looks of them...

doesn't she look like she's had all of her Christmases come at once? She's home now methinks.

    T.

I thought the same, but i have seen white fade, but maybe another of the litter? (the timing fits, the fact PnH had her, the breed, what she looks like..)

Either way, i hope that she has a wonderful life, the life she should have been living for the last 6yrs

And congratulations to all those involved in her rehoming

  3. Just fantastic, dogmad, I could hug you through the computer screen  & Ellie has that 'gay' tail just like our boy Rogan!

What a story, Flaves, I think you are right, this is more than coincidence. I have a feeling Ellie will move forward in life & experience all the love that Barker had...... maybe Barker is watching over his sister, guiding her paw & dogmad's hand?

:D It would be nice to think so!

I hope so Trifecta, i balled my eyes out when i connected dots and realised it could be Barks sister.

I hope that Ellie experiences the love that Barks had, and i think that B would be watching over her - he was a very sweet and loving boy.

:D If it is not B's sister please dont tell me  cause i want to think it is

  4. Stevie was born blind, so she has no idea she is 'special'. She is bold and confident, but also quite sensible. She rarely crashes into things because she likes to assess new places/situations carefully. She is best mates with my Standard Poodle pup and loves the kids. :)

    that was gorgeous to watch.

She certainly is special - gorgeous gsd girl.

Hope you have a lot of happiness and fun with her

  5. To be fair it is only 27.8°C at 10am - Most of us would show in that heat, it's not 40 now and they are showing in that.

Well, I dropped in to get some more water buckets and just for interests sake took my partners digital temp checker - I was there at 10.15 this morning.

Temp in shade was 48 deg - temp in the ring was 51.5 deg (and that was the grass not the black / tan heavy coated breed that was in the ring at the time) - so average would be 49 deg I guess. Give a 3 deg variance for error in the machine and you still have 46 deg in the ring on the grass.

When people are walking around with sweat literally dripping off them dragging dogs who are dragging / tripping over their own feet I would think that serious heat exhaustion is very close to setting in and the damamge this does to a dogs system can be unrepairable.

I have nothing else to say :(.

  6. I never come in to the rescue pages, not for a long long time.

about 6 years ago when i first found DOL, i 'fostered' a dog who looked similar to Elle. Very similar.

Then i saw this post by Dogmad

Paws and Hooves, her original rescuers, could have stepped in at some time to help but apart from posting her on this forum, that's been it.

I am pretty sure that my 'foster' who became a foster failure was Ellie's brother

This is barker and his sister - taken at PnH.

I am sure that Ellie is his litter sister

Ellie is on the left - if this was her, but the timing fits and what she looks like

    Elle is in the front

I started to cry when i read the above.

The minute Barker arrived at our place he was loved, he also had the most wonderful nature, loved people, was great with other dogs.

He tragically did not have a long life, we had only had him about 15mo when he passed away in a horrible accident, but he was loved, so loved.

I am so sad for Ellie that she didnt find a home where she was loved like B was.

I am so happy she is now in a home where she will finally be loved and looked after

Ellie should have been loved from the start

    beautifulboy2.jpg

To all of you who helped Ellie - thankyou. I am so happy she is now in a home with a family that wants her and will love her

Maybe she spend the next part of her life being spoilt!

  7. So sorry you have had to say goodbye to a loved one. I too lost a feline friend this past month and although he was nearly 16 and had a tumour in his jaw, it was still a difficult thing doing what was right for him.

I am sorry you lost your friend too

It is hard although it was certainly the right thing to do for her.

    Thanks CB and PoM

  8. I thought that the ruling was that if the temp was meant to be 38* for the show the night before the show it was to be cancelled

The rule was changed, it's up to each club to set it's rules -it must be mentioned in the gazette as far as i am aware.

Yeah i went to the members area cause in the gazette i had it was from October and i couldnt find the heat policy

I hope no dogs or humans suffer from the heat tomorrow :)

  9. I would have thought this show would have been cancelled with the forecast temperature, and as of this morning we now we have a revised temperature of 40.

Edited to add - I see that some breeds are to be judged inside, but there are a number of other breeds that are easily heat effected and they haven't been given special consideration.

Oh well, I would of hoped that due to the conditions, that common sense would have prevailed!:mad

BB this show is NOT the twilight show, I get the twilight show is cooler because of no sun, however travelling to the show and set up is sometimes in the hot part of the day.

This is the one for Monday starting at 9am with a predicted temperature of 40 degrees. I still stand by my statement, whether it has a temp predicted to be 38 or 40 IMHO it is still too hot for dog showing or anythig else IMO. And I still believe it should be cancelled. To show inside would be like a sauna in there as the building holds the heat at the best of times in summer, after it has been roasted yesterday, and again today it will be hot in there and the air will be thick!

But then you will always have those that have to show regardless of what the high temperature is going to be.......

I am entered for the show on Monday, I will not be attending, common sense tells me to stay home regardless of whether the show goes on or not, my safety and those of my dogs is paramount. As I have a background in OH&S it is clear to me for everybody's sake what needs to be done.

How I see it - Maybe it will take an unfortunate accident / incident to happen before common sense will prevail and concrete policies are to be put in place and to be implemented ...but that is my opinion and one I see from the OH&S side and the duty of care side for all of the committee, judges, stewards and exhibitors etc .......we live in a very litigious world.

Some dog people put their chance to get that next challenge before the welfare of their dog. When we get such an extreme forecast like Mondays show it should really be cancelled to protect the welfare of the dogs.

It is beyond me that people would even contemplate going to a dog show in such conditions.

I don't need anyone to make the decision for me - I have my own heat policy. It it's too

    b.....y hot - then I don't go!!!

I cannot think of any good reason to subject my loved animals to those conditions, not matter

how much people say that they are comfortable and in the shade! They would all be better off

    at home.

It is ridiculous that the controlling body has to make a decision for its members - for heaven's

sake, be responsible owners, and do the right thing by your animals...and yourself!

    Off the soapbox!

    Gael

have to agree with you all

I cannot believe that there are people going to show in 38+ degree heat.

And that is not just for the dogs either!

I thought that the ruling was that if the temp was meant to be 38* for the show the night before the show it was to be cancelled
