  1. The laws across NSW are the same, though the practises can be different for each Council. NOI's can only be issued to the identified (chipped) owner of a dog. So if the dog is not/can't be purchased by the person who bought the dog in then no it can't be contested. You could go to the boss of the Council and jump up and down saying you want to adopt the dog and are happy for Council to issue you with an NOI and you get the BA etc done. Not sure it will do any good. Below are a few scenarios to show how it works. If a dog comes in as a stray and is chipped as a purebred Pitbull or APBT then it is a restricted dog and hence a dead dog if not claimed. If claimed, it can still be a dead dog in many cases, though not all. If a dog comes in and is chipped as a Pitbull X anything and there has been no breed assessment perfomed on the dog by an authorised Breed Assessor then it is not a RD technically as the law is written.Unless chipped as a purebreed a dog is NOT a RD until an NOI has been issued and a breed assessment and temperant assessment (if required) is performed by a authorised breed and temperament assessor. They can still be rehomed as long as the new owner is told that Council will issue an NOI and the dog will need to be breed assessed because Council is of the belief the dog may be a PB cross and the owner what is involved in owning a RD if the dog is deemed a RD after assessment. If this dog was claimed by an owner then it can be released and the owner then issued with an NOI for a BA. Though many of these dogs would not get rehomed if they appear to have some pitbull in them. If a Pitbull X anything came in and it had a breed assessment performed on it and a temperament assessment and it was declared a RD under the legislation then it is a dead dog. If a dog came into the pound chipped as say an AMSTAFF X and the Council believed it was a APBT or cross then they still have to release the dog if claimed by an owner and issue an NOI for a breed assessment etc. If a dog came in with NO chip and the Council believed it to be cross PB or APBT then technically at that time it is not a RD and "could" be offered for rehoming if not claimed. If claimed, the owner should be able to claim the dog as per usual and would be issued with an NOI for a BA. If not claimed, then technically it could be offered for rehoming and the new owner advised of NOI being issued and requirement for BA etc etc. Council Officers are not authorised breed assessors. Don't forget the the shortcut for all of these situations is if the dog is not claimed the Council can euth the dog on the basis of behaviour or medical reasons and it never be offered for rehoming.
  2. I'm getting a mini dachshund pup in 2 weeks and I'm thinking of crate training him while he is being toilet trained so he can sleep next to me in his crate at night.. do you think one of the K9+ soft crates will be ok for this? I will use it to take him for car rides also until he is old enough to wear a harness. Or would i be better off with an airline crate? I just love the look of the soft ones! Also would he be a size small in the soft crate? For a pup I would always recommend an airline crate or collapsible crate. Most pups tend to chew things for a while and though the K9 crates look much nicer it may not survive puppy teeth and claws.
  3. Crash used to have only old blankies, firstly because he destroyed everything and secondly because he would sometimes prefer to sleep on the crate floor and up side down He as since graduated to a blue K9 Royale with a fluffy bed and has not destroyed that...yet...but he still sleeps up side down...
  4. Was great to see our sport (flyball) on TV finally... We all know how much fun we have with our dogs, now the world can see. Have to say I was disappointed at the lack of coverage of all the flyball teams. Basically 2 heats (the final) was shown out of 12 (heats) all weekend. Which is disapointing for the other teams when they put in just as much effort to be there. But we have no control over that. Note that all the dogs from the other sports were covered. Very proud of Doopey (Cooper in my sig) running first dog in 6 Pak!!! I must say it was the best weekend. So much fun. Would do it again tomorrow!!! Can we?
  5. Oh yes he will be. He gets to run Cooper and I run the green dog. Not going to let him stuff up the new dog!!
  6. Plan is to get Crash doing nice swimmers turns off the flyball box and get the ball..... Poor bugger can do all the other behaviours required for flyball but I have not mastered his turn yet. I have a new "prop" I will be trying out to make him jump high onto the box with four legs every time. So will see how it goes. Then he can start to play with the big boys next year
  7. vickie if your possible home falls through I may have one up here in QLD for this boy. Great home, people already do flyball and the hubby has now got "the bug" but wants his own dog to run. His wife's Cocker Spaniels are not fast enough for him How old is Buddy? I have sent them the thread and will get back to you if they are interested. cheers
  8. I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I think I selfishly want to see him in an agility home so I still get to see him all the time He could always go to a home that does both!! Ok then AD we should have him shipped to QLD and you guys can have him We already have 4 dogs here, can't have another...
  9. He's just a really strong, stable dog. He may have a fantastic home lined up. My fingers are crossed, the longer he stays, the harder it is going to be to part with a dog like this. He tugs like a demon & has fantastic obedience, loves all dogs, is great with the kids & gorgeous with my kitten. He is a dream. Sounds like he needs to go to a flyball home!!! If his possible home does not go ahead let us know and we can place him on the flyball website as rescue needing a home.
  10. I think they are looking at the Games moving around the world each year. I heard next year will be London then possibly New York after that. Don't know if this is fact but it is what I have heard.

  18. Yep Thursday is fine for campers and vans etc. The Friday afternoon thing is for setting up cabanas etc on the racing grounds as that is when the actual racing grounds are booked from. Overnight camping is on the hill overlooking the racing grounds. Just a short roll down the hill in the morning with a hangover. Don't forget to book your Sat night dinner tickets!! Free sausage sizzle for dinner Friday night. I am driving down the Wednesday night/ Thursday morning. Staying at my sisters 5 minutes from grounds Thursday night then camping from Friday. See ya's there...

  20. and we thought it was hard work getting in and out of the rings last year! At least we won't have cows to worry about this year. :D Yeah, but this time we have a better idea of how it works and what to expect so should be better. Hopefully! Cows? yes I will be there.. :D Though I have been called worse When are you guys travelling down?
  21. 41 teams all up across 8 divisions and 243 races over 2 days...the biggest flyball competition ever held in Australia...
  22. Hi all Just to let all the dog sport nuts know we are less than 4 weeks away from the 2009 Australian Flyball Championships to held at Castle Hill, Sydney on 17 & 18 October. Attached is a flyer with info. If you would like further info go to www.flyball.org.au or PM me. thanks
  23. You know I am not convinced of the theory of dogs being deficient in something to make them eat poo. Or that they are not fed enough. My 10 year old lab does it all the time. Every Lab I have had has done it. In the case of Labs (in particular) I think they do it because they like it. It is really that simple. You can NEVER feed a Lab enough for it to know it has had enough. Once she ate nearly a whole medium bag of Eukanuba which I think was 7.5kg, she didn't think she had had enough once I found her and wanted more. Needless to say she was not fed for at least a few days after that until the whale belly went down.... Feeding them more would just end up with an overweight dog and we see too many overweight Labs as it is. My Aussie Shep does it from time to time and usually after he sees the Lab doing it, therefore it seems he may have learnt to do it by copying the Lab and enjoys it almost just as much. I have a tried a few of the suggestions put forward already but I really think she just loves it. When I let her out of her run she makes a bee line for poo in the yard and she tucks in. My other half is writing a Uni paper on her for his course. She is the perfect example. These days I just put it down to her being her and her and she loves it Not one of her more endearing qualities...
