  1. Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I have to ask you more experienced obedience guys....is this attitude towards small dogs the norm with obedience? I have a papillion that I *maybe* want to do obedience with, and want to be prepared for the attitude, if I am gunna jump in the deep end....
  2. Have fun, Sunny :D I compramised. I have a sheet on one lounge chair only, and Frodo and murphy are only allowed up when I am on it, and frodo then perches on my shoulder like a parrot :D and murphy is on the footrest bit between my feet. It is our special time as such. Neither try to lie there when I am not tho, as they have their 'day' beds as such, and if I don't want them on me when I sit on my chair, I use 'down' , they throw the sulky looks x 2, and then go to their day beds HHH. The bedding moved from the lounge to the floor sounds like a good idea
  3. well the vet was in surgery so we were yelling between walls as such HHH so I never actually got to ask about the paracetamol...BUT I got some Previcox which is an pain killer and anti-inflamitory tablet. I have enough for a few days, with the instruction to bring him back if not really on the upswing by friday. Re: the Bute. I had a pony that was on it constantly ( old pony/arthritus) and I remember the vet telling me to make sure the dog doesn't get into the horse feed ( he used to help eat the hard feed, and that was where I was going to put the bute) cause it would kill him. I never asked whether it was the quantity, or the actual drug in any quantity, but I would not be game to give it to a dog.... About the paracetamol, I googled, and saw conflicting advice, all from vet sites, hense why I asked again here. I know vets all have different views on different drugs and their applications....maybe some think the possible side effects of eg: panadol are worth the benifit at the time, or that the dog won't be on it long enough for it to be accumulative? I am definately going to make the time to ring the vet and ask about: panadol aspirin bute ace and their applications in doggies. Maybe a few of the members here could do the same, and then we might get a good cross section of advice? On a good note, the tablet has licked in wioth Murphy well and truely I think, as he looks like he is resting more comfortably :D
  4. Hi Puggles....we made it thru the night! I have rang the vet, and am popping up there in another few minutes for some sort of tablets for him...I will talk to the vet when I get there, as I only got to speak to the receptionist as the vet was doing an emergency caesar. I put the cream on him first thing this morning, and he is still pretty sore :D I never even thought to ask about pain relief when I was first at the vets....I presumed that cream must have been pretty strong I suppose. Thanks for all the help and concern, and thanks to varicool who told me about this site! cheers kym
  5. Yep, I will be back in the morning for an update ...I am still up as you can see, so decided to ask a question ( read: annoy you guys some more) in your training section about my puppy Thankyou for your kind words; yes he is gorgeous...he is a terrier/poodle x, and started to go blind when 2 years old...he was diagnosed with PRA around then, and was fully blind by 4...not that you would know it. As the vet said to me at the time, it is often harder on the owners, than on the pet, and this is so true in my case. Murphy is resting peacefully still, so the double whammy of local must have been a good thing. I know I still can't feel my fingers properly tho ( I had it on my fingers too long cause he was being difficult, and didn't have any disposable gloves hahah) The vet should give me something, as well as a small supply, as I have S4 stuff here for the horse too, and he knows I won't misuse etc...I hope he has a good night! I have just never seen any dog so sore I am sorry you lost your lovely golden oldie I dread the day also... See you guys in the morning
  6. Besides being blind, he has no other real concernes Most people don't even realise he is blind until they see his eyes, cause he just does everything so naturally! Even running about like a loon with the new Papillion puppy ( in the avator) or playing fetch ( we just put a bell in his tennis ball so he can hear where it is bouncing) He is a joy I will definately be ringing and then visiting the vet tomorrow...he is resting peacefully now, and I will do the cream again if I have to during the night.
  7. Here is the boy This was actually his 'before' pic for Dogs life Magazine. He was the makeover winner for Qld/ Northern Territory Many thanks again
  8. ok I have muzzled him and bit the bullet and rubbed some more of the cream with the local in it...he forgave me cause I gave him a liver treat afterwards....I will just keep doing that thru the night if he needs it, and ring my vet in the morning. Hopefully he will settle again; the muzzle distresses him but I need it to do the cream Thanks for all the advice guys, it has been great...I will put piccy up of him as soon as I can work all this out thanks again kym
  9. thanks so much guys will keep monitoring this thread...he is resting for the moment...maybe a stiff scotch for me
  10. My sister was advised by her vet to give nurofen...but I recon each case is different, and her dog was terminal, so as harsh as this sounds, maybe the side effects didn't matter so much as such. I googled, and got conflicting reports about panadol, and was hoping for some experiences here. I won't risk it tho I think.... Anyone know an after hours vet in possibly brisbane that I could ring? I am in the country...
  11. I think that she maybe thought the cream would be enough but it isnt ...I think he is sorer now because of the squeezing of the glands etc
  12. Hi guys, I hope someone can help me here. I have an old doggie (11) who is blind, that went to the vets yesterday morning, in great pain. He has an enlarged prostrate ( that we already knew about and were managing) but it led to his anal glands becoming infected and very painful...the poor fellah could hardly sit and had to be muzzled just to clip the hair away. Anyway, after evacuating the glands, he is on antibiotics, and has a cream to sooth the skin inflamation, as the infection spread to the surrounding skin, and he chewed/ licked his scrotal area . The cream has a local anethetic in it to soothe, but he is pretty distressed tonight, and can't get comfortable, and is whining occassionally... My question is, can you give dogs panadol at all, or some other human med, to take the edge off. I can get him back to the vets tomorrow, or at least ring them, but I really want something to make him a tad more comfortable now. I hope you guys can help. Thanks, kym
