  1. Do you guys worry about the Hep part of the vaccination? It can't be titred ( no test in Australia for it) ...So even if the Parvo & Distemper levels are high, do you then just take a chance with the Hep? I don't think there is a single vaccination for Hep, same as Distemper. * just wondering as I only found this info out yesterday via my vet, and that info was straight from Pathology at the Brisbane Uni* Anyone know how prevelent Hepatitus actually is???
  2. The vet is that link in post #3...animaloptions. That is the name of the surgery
  3. I just had my vet ring me back, and they said that in Australia, the Titre test only tests for Distemper and Parvo, not Hep, and those 3 are what make up the C3 ( which is what I get) ..so I presume what staff n toller said the post above is correct. It would be interesting to talk to the OP's vet, as on their web site it says that in their vaccination schedule: I *presume* that there is a seperate vaccine for Bordatella or Parainfluenza, so THAT vaccine could be given on the 'off' years, between vaccinating every three years with the C3, thus not doubling up on the 'core' vaccines. There was also some other 3 year vaccine available ( I have no idea now what it covers; a bit brain dead) and they said that they have to buy the vaccines in lots of 10, and because there would be little chance at this time of using them, I would have to pay for all 10 if I wished to do that...
  4. JUst another train of thought...one of my dogs would not come when he was busy playing/ chasing the chooks and it was pointed out to me that I was ending his fun if he came, so he chose to ignore me as in his mind if he came it was all over red rover ...I used the long line and let him have fun with it on, called him, rewarded him for coming, but IMMEDIATLY let him go back to sniffing around etc. I progressed to off the long line to a big empty paddock with lots of bunny smells etc, but no dogs and every time he was about 50 meters away, I recalled, rewarded and sent off again, all through the walk. I never just called and took him away from his fun iykwim. Good luck!
  5. Some interesting reading http://www.vin.com/proceedings/Proceedings...0&O=Generic
  6. I was lucky with my first one as he was toy orientated, so squeeky became the reward, and the second one ( after the collar issue was sorted) dragged a lead, and then literally followed the other one whilst on lead together; then alone.. Have you a lead trained dog that he follows around normally? I have come to the conclusion that these little dogs can really know their own minds! I NEVER had these issues with the many big dogs that I have had in the past!
  7. Hi Sunny Yep Sam certainly chucked a good one...and you know, for those 6 hours, he didn't eat/ drink/ pee...nothing. Not even a treat. I don't know how I outlasted him actually; I was really worried.
  8. My pap threw the worst tantrums and ran madly into things screaming, to the point I was sure he was going to do himself an injury Then he would hide and sulk for hours, literally. I timed one, and it was 6 hours, no kidding. I found it worse to take on and off, as I was trying to leave it on for longer times etc, and ended up just biting the bullet, leaving it on and being home for a few days constantly, till he was really used to it. Then I took of and on. I found he still sulked a little, but only for a few minutes. I never really showed him the collar, as that then gave him the option of running away or causing a drama. I called him and gave him a treat for coming, and then just put the collar on and offered another treat, and then put him down...he usually sulked a little, but them came for another small treat/toy and came good. Now he is as good as gold.
  9. My little Papillon is nearly 5 months old, and is getting car sick still. I have taken him on really short trips ( like 200 meters and back) and am slowly lengthing them, and he is getting a little better ( he now starts drooling at 5 klm) but I am worried that he will just never travel well. I always praise and when we do go somewhere I make it somewhere fun for him so he associates the car with good things. The vet said just wait and see if he grows out of it. Todays little trip was a first though; he also pooed and threw up. He doesn't seem to be afraid of the car; in fact, he bounces in to go places. I have a pet car seat cover, and he usually travels on the back seat with the other pap who is fine. I tried a crate, but I think it stressed him out worse. I have tried windows up/ down, aircon on/off, radio on/off, front seat/back seat/ crate/ no crate ...nothing helps. Anyone have any ideas? Or is the vet right, and just wait it out? He is missing a whole heap of socialization, as I am country and there isn't any dog parks/ friends within non chucking/ pooing distance. TIA Kym
  10. I wouldn't be changing anything till you figure out whether it is fleas or an allergy. Fleas are pretty easy to see on a cat if you bathe them and look while they are still wet. My dogs are scratchy atm, and I know they are flea free, but we have bad mozzies atm; I am presuming they must be getting bitten when they are outside; I know I am
  11. We all love tug o war, to the point that if my older dog can't get any takers to play with him, he comes and literally loops the loop over my foot if I am sitting in the recliner lounge and then proceeds to tug on it hahahha I must say that I have always heard that you don't let them win, but I do sometimes just so it isn't frustrating for them. But my dogs don't really challange me either iykwim.
  12. My pup does this when I put advantage on him, but the others dogs/cat never have....the pup also does it when I use squirt coat shine on him too... Maybe it is just the feeling?
  13. Could you use the liver sprinkles/ dust ( in a can at the supermarkets) to flavour the mix before baking???
  14. My pap is prone to this and I was tearing my hair out. The hair behind the ear is just so soft and puppy like, even though he is nearing 2 years old, and would matt seemingly overnight I use a leave in hair shine stuff now, and even though they still play, I have not had ONE matt!!! I was using a schwartzcoft anti frizz serum, but now am using Squirt hair shine.
  15. My old dog does this occassionally, and the vet has NO idea, but is swaying towards a pinched nerve in the spine somewhere. He was put on a course of anti inflamitories and it seemed to fix it, so that is why he is leaning that way. This has been happening on and off for years for us, and when it happens it is really sudden, like he has been bitten by a green ant and is trying to get away from the pain but can't. My dog is also slightly roach backed, so maybe his conformation has something to do with it as well....We call it 'yelpies' and if he gets them, I just give him his drugs for a few days and all is good again *sigh* Another time he did similiar to your dog was when he was starting to bloat ( first and only time thank goodness). He was in pain and just had to sit. He was crying with an occassional yelp. I draped him over my leg to support him and comfort him, while trying to by time to figure out what was wrong...he relaxed and gave a massive BURRPPPPPP and all was good again... Good luck op
  16. I went and joined, but no where was I asked a mailing address, so I don't see how I will get freebies...but the reminder service is a good idea
  17. My pap had toncillitus as a pup; in fact I was taking him for his last needle and the vet was giving him the once over and I mentioned a slight cough, which was his only symptom. As it turned out, he had a slightly raised temp too, but was not out of sorts in himself. Maybe it was the very beginning of it. We were lucky tho, as one course of antibiotics cured it. I don't understand why your puppy was put under anaesthesia to diagnose tho??? My vet just looked down his throat, and then felt somewhere on his windpipe and got a cough reaction... He also said that dogs can catch human flu's. As hubby had just got over the flu, I wonder if this is where my puppy picked up the toncillitus. Best of luck!
  18. WOW pap to Newfie is a HUGE change, literally!!! Bet you miss pappy bath times though

  20. The greyhounds get blackheads too. I think I remember a GAP lady saying that they get them from laying on concrete? By white heads, do you mean the little pimples that look like what we would get on our faces? And they are ringed in red? My old bloke gets something that looks like that occassionally, and I just keep the area really clean and put savlon on them; seems to clear them up. If they look really pussy, I knock the top off with a steralized needle first. I have no idea why he gets them tho :/ Usually around the groin area...
  21. Thats a hell of a AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Factor!! What a gorgeous puppy! The white on white is stunning!
  22. I clipped a sheltie once after he returned from the vets half clipped and a total mess ( after an operation) His coat was never the same; it started growing in all whacky directions
  23. I have no answers as I am in the process of toilet training my pup, but I have a story to tell. I bought one of those inside grass tray things ( dog loo?) for the puppy, and whenever he went elsewhere inside, I said no and placed him on the loo mat. I never could get him to 'go' on the loo mat. As he is a small breed, I wanted the loo mat as an allowable place to 'go' in case I was gone for a few hours during the day and he was inside. Fast forward a few weeks, and he is getting pretty good with just letting himself outside now to go weewees, but if he does have an accident inside, he runs straight to the loo mat. In fact, whenever I say no to anything, he puts himself on the loo mat and just sits there. I have inadvertantly made the loo mat a naughty corner.
  24. A friend who I have lost contact with ( so can't check) had this coconut spray for her dogs coat. I don't know if it was a conditioning treatment, or just a spray that made the dog smell nice. She got it from a stand at a dog show and I remember her saying you can always find it around the dog shows. I have no idea of the bottle even, but she gave me a little in a jar, and a little goes a long way and last for ages on the dog...I remember her sayinog it wasn't really cheap.. Does anyone have ANY idea what it might be????
