  1. I ordered some grooming stuff from this website Eqitopia about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Have not received anything yet. They havent replied to my emails and it appears the phone number is disconnected or wrong. I payed through paypal. Im not sure what I should do next?

  2. does anyone buy stuff for there dogs from asian supermarkets? I went in there today and they had chicken carcass for $1.75 a kilo, but thats frozen so more water content. You can buy little steamed mackerals for like 2 for $2.30 which would be good for medium sized dogs. They had chicken feet as well but i think they are a bit fatty for dogs.

  3. ok cheers Sparkytansy. Another question. I have taught my dog to stand and when she does this she looks at me. But when you have your dog on the table and you are stacking it the dog is meant to look forward right? I cant have her turning her head toward me all the time? Even when we go around in a circle and she has her head up she is looking towards me more than straight ahead. What should I do about this?

  4. Cheers Mel. So im entering my bitch in baby puppy. What do I put in the section - entered in breed class no:

And there is a section for special class no as well. Not sure if i need to fill that section.

And there is a section for height at shoulder, do i really need to fill this bit in?

  5. Almost, not quite...

After BOB is judge the Reserve Challenge winner of that sex returns to the ring to compete for RUBOB, now that dog may not necessarily have placed 2nd in the class that the CC winner came from (it could have come from another class being the winner).

No points for RUBOB, only the CC winners get points and of course BOB winner takes a point for each of the opposite sex beaten.

Ok thanks Aziah. Actually i thought the BOB gets a point for each dog it beats that is eligible for a CC (regardless of the sex)?

  6. can someone explain to me how the challenge system works. The way i understand it is : you go through all the dog classes first and at the end you have a challenge dog. Then you repeat this with the bitches and have a challenge bitch. The challenge dog and bitch compete for BOB. THen the BOB leaves the ring. The runner up from the class of the losing dog comes into the ring and competes against the dog that is still in the ring for RUBOB. Is this right? Does RUBOB get points as well?

  7. Edited to add. There are 2 major ideas on how to breed aganist HD.

One is to look at only the parents and select the best scored parents you can fine, for example a 0-0 to a 0-0, you do not look at the larger family picture. This might give you the best chance of getting one pup with the 0_0 socre, however it does not seem to produced consistant hips across the litter and there can even be siblings with HDas not a rare even.

The other method is to look at the exteneded families and a couple of generations. All siblings need to be screened of parents and grand parents litters and even half siblings can also be looked at. You look for dogs that come from families that did not have any HD, it is a mornal of affected way of judging the family history. This method does seem to have the best results for getting normal hips aross the whole litter in my opinion.

Thanks for that. Im dont really understand how a) if you keep breeding dogs with low hip scores say nothing over 2 in both hips. You do this generation after generation for 10 generations or whatever. How come this doesnt flatten out the scores across the whole litter. How come you might get one with 2:8 crop up?

  8. So with the BVA/ Willis scheme you can at least improve the incidence of HD in dogs you breed? But its harder to gauge if it works across a the whole breed in this country because few people report their score to some authority. BTW who is in charge of collecting all the results and analysing all the data that does come in?

From what i read about pennHIP it sounds more technical but more accurate, but i guess its very expensive for you breeders and you would have to find a vet that trained to do it.

  9. Who is Dr. Ark, I've never heard of him, does he specialise in hip dysplasia?

I think his name is Michael Archinal, ive seen him on Kerri-Anne, no he doesnt specialise in hip dysplasia.

I disagree with half the stuff he says. i.e pups can come be homed at 7 weeks - they can have their 1st vaccination before then, dogs should never eat bones etc

  10. Where on earth did you read that? The BVA/AVA screening method has certainly greatly improved hip scores in my breed both here and in the U.K. PennHIP isn't highly regarded in the U.S. and when I attended a seminar given by the president of OFFA she was quite dismissive of the PennHIP method. I would never use PennHIP.

This is what Dr Ark says in the latest dogs life, i thought it sounded dodgy so i just wanted to check.

  11. Im just curious as to people's views on the effectiveness of the AVA screening method using x-rays as opposed to PennHIP. I read somewhere that the traditional AVA method has shown no improvement in the prevention of hip dysplasia in the last 20 years. I find this quite hard to fathom as ive seen on the DOL breed pages that most breeders of HD affected breeds still use this method. If it has not been improving health why do breeders continue to use it and not PennHIP?

  12. hey labrab sorry i didnt get to meet you, i didnt really know what i was looking for.

Hey guys what microchip registry are you with?? i know there are a few, just dont know if one is any better than the others.

Well done to all those people who got passes in obedience and agility

  13. My dog swallowed a small stick this morning, by small i mean the size of a smallish woodchip, but he is a small dog. Im sure it was small enough to go through his esophagus into his stomach. Im just a bit worried that it wont break down enough in his stomach for him to pass it through the rest of his digestive tract. So im wondering if wood breaks down much in the stomach or if there is anything I can give him??? He has eaten sticks before and then passed stools no problem. So im not sure if i should take him to the vet or wait a day or so and see what happens

  14. RE puppy schools - Kyzer went to puppy school. And look at hime

I think puppy schools can be good but I will never ever again go to one that is just a free for all with puppies getting smacked down all over the place, especially with smaller puppies.

which one did you go to amy? Im going to Clever Creatures in Samson, the woman seems to know her stuff, she knows all the Susan Garrett/Jan Fennel stuff and she has a lovely GSD
