  1. With tears in my eyes I said goodbye to my darling Bonnie this morning. She had suffered from fits since January but the medication was helping and she hadn't had a fit since starting the medication, then this morning she had another one. Finally when she came out of it she couldn't see or hear me, just kept pacing and running into things. I knew the time had come and I know it was the kindest thing to do but still doesn't make it any easier. She was nearly 14 years young and my heart dog, there will never be another one like her. She is now buried under the tree with her friend Tiffany. RIP my darling girl, you were the best dog anyone could have had.

  2. I took my border collie with me when I went camping on the Murray, just me and my dog, bliss! We used to go for a walk every morning but in the afternoon she wouldn't leave the camp lol, she would sit at the caravan as if to say "you're crazy". Never had a problem with her, she doesn't chase sheep because they terrify her ;) . Only problem I had was when a guy drove into camp after dark one night and she greeted him like a long lost friend,,, there went the thought of her being my watch dog

  3. My sons' next door neighbour had two sibes, they were fine while youngsters. I will admit they weren't the breed for those people but regardless of that both the dog and the bitch ended up being pts because of very unpredictable temperaments. I whelped the bitch here and only had her for a week before she whelped, never showed any sign of biting the 5 weeks I had her. It wasn't until later that she was pts, the dog went first. I never trusted him, sort of dog that wanted to challenge you all the time. I had many an arguement with my sons' neighbours about the dogs, tried to teach them things but he knew it all!! Far too often these dogs end up with people who don't understand the breed and the requirements that go along with owning these dogs. Same old story, cute fluffy puppies but once they grow owners lose interest in them and then they cause problems.

  4. We have heaps of flies here too at the moment, picture this,,, in desperation i hung one of those sticky and yucky fly strips out on the back pergola. At some stage it must have fallen down because of the wind. Silky found it and rolled on it, when I found her all i could see was one end between her front legs and the other end sticking out from her back legs!! Peeled it off very carefully, bathed her twice and she was still sticky, finally got some nail polish remover and as gently as I could wiped her down with that, she's not as sticky anymore but still not right! Never will I hang one of those disgusting things up again.

  5. It's ok pebbles, my gun licence is up to date. Last thing either of us want is a silky x kelpie litter. Might come for a visit lol it's only 4 hours driving, be back here for breakfast. It is so annoying when people don't keep their dogs in the yard but it happens so often in a small town, especially when they can do so much damage.

  6. chocolate glad the dogs are ok and hopefully they will leave the snakes alone now.

We have an emergency place in Canberra that wont even look at the dog without the money up front... plus once they have the dog they wont let the owners go in to calm them down.

A bitch was having complications during whelping and it was taken in for an emergency cesar... they would not look at the dog until the bill was paid and then as the bitch was in distress they would not let anyone calm her down as the money was not paid.... i think all up it cost of 2K and the end result was that the puppies did not make it... they are really not in it for the animals... and having a monopoly on the after hours care there really is no other options...

I cannot believe what I'm reading. I had to take our silky girl in for a ceasar 4am on a Monday morning, I went in with her to help plus the vet nurse. All up it cost me $970, got 4 live pups and the bill came 3 weeks later. I paid a few installments then the remainder when I sold the pups, that was fine with the vet practice.

  7. I rang my vet this morning and she is now on 1/4 tablet morning and night. He says it might take a few days for her body to get used to the tablets. So now just keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh Legz I am so sorry to hear of your loss, I had to have our 15 1/2 yr old papillon put to sleep a few months ago, it's just heartbreaking even though we know we are doing the right thing by them. That is why Im just not ready to lose Bonnie yet but if we have to then we will. I have no doubt you have thought the same as I have "why oh why don't they just go to sleep and not wake up" Your story has made we wonder, Bonnie seems to be drinking more then usual, not excessively, just more then normal, or am I just watching her more closely?
