  1. Not sure - I have suggessted a behoviourist. Our girl beardie can jump very well too, and no doubt can clear our 1.5m fences if she chose to - the neighbours see her full body regularly above the fence line, but I've never seen anything like this one. He's coming here for a day next week so I can have a look at him. At a rough guess I'd say 'because he can". When he first arrived he "broke into" the house! He took off (without damaging) the fly screen on a window and opened the window to get in (didn't damage anything - just went to bed - on the bed) - the window was only open about an inch. You can literally see the "wheel turning" in this boys head when he wants to do something. He's a lovely boy and a very quick learner, Cully is loathed to re-home him (not that I think he can be re-homed - he'd do the same thing to any normal pet home) I'm wondering if this boy would be better suited to a working farm life. Is the dog allowed inside? Have they considered putting in a dog door and giving him limited access inside? A behaviourist would be a better investment than electric fencing for this boy but have they considered he's escaping for company? Where does he go when he gets out? He's inside with Cully when he's home. I've given him the details of the behaviourist we use.

  3. unfortunately he does it when they are home too..... Cully wants to try the petsafe fence first but they will build a run "just incase" Thanks everyone
  4. Thanks everyone - I think all he has left is electric fences and contained dog runs. Bonnie - would you please send me the details on the dogsafe one - The boys can weld up a dog run at work in their spare time but if we can do this with the fencing I think Cully would be a lot happier. Thanks again
  5. Our friend recently took on a rescue dog which had previously been homed with his litter sister. Both dogs had been left alone and were very boisterous, and poorly treated, so when they were re-homed they were separated. Tux has taken to escaping on a regular basis. They have turned the back yard into "fort Knox" - extending the fenceline angled in at 45 degrees. The gate is now 7 foot high. Everything and anything close to something he can use to get higher has been removed. He can jump (from a standing start) onto the roof of the tool shed and leaps over the fence or he climbs the fence (including the extension part) - he is not a digger. He is taken on long walks every night. He has toys and bones in the yard. Does anyone have any suggestions to keep this boy in his yard? Oh and yes it's a beardie.....
  6. some one by the name of amanda i was told she works at Bitsa Oh so Bitsa is the company name - just had a look - they're part of Genetic Technologies - not surprised with all the "crap" from them lately...
  7. Brenda Aloff has a very good book on canine body language - you would be surprised at what dominant posturing actually looks like. It's not just how your dog behaves either but also how the others react. The book is well worth looking at.
  8. Megan, the RSPCA is answerable to the 'greater good', which is a far greater position than the minsiter. Be Green Vote Green, end animal ownership and animal slavery in Australia! We don't wear them, we don't eat them, we don't own them! Support maditory desexing of all pets. I'm not sure if this is a joke or not either way food for thought. so if all foul domesticated methane excreters are to be eliminated?? does that mean all wild methan excreters are next for extermination????????? theres millions of them,, um actually a few billion of em particularly so in africa yikes homo sapiens also excrete..................what..................methane? The next step is to severely limit population of humans. (have you not been listing to ABC, not a day goes by where they do not mention population control). Wild animals are to be saved at all cost and given back all of the earth that is rightfully theirs. Humans should be removed from the rural and small towns and moved to the largest 5-7 cities, live in high density living and only allowed to reach numbers that can be substain with inner city garden plots. Look at the Cuban plan for an example. The areas between the cities should be reverted back to natural bush for the wild animals. Be Green, Vote Green. All water needs to flow in the rivers to the sea, man must stop taking the water to grow food. Support goverment buy out of all water rights and end all water using farming in Australia today! I'm going to take this as "tongue in cheek" - the alternative it to frightening......

    Puppy Poo

Does it look like this? It could be colitis... Colitis can be caused by lots of things but it is an irritaion and inflamation of the lining of the colon. Parasites and a reaction to certain foods are the main cause. You need to rule out parasites (including Giardia) first. From there you need to replace the enzymes in the gut which have been lost due to the condition. A lack of proteolytic enzymes in the gut not only can be caused by parasites and parncreatitis but can also be due to a dietary insufficiency. Without the enzymes the body can not breakdown the nutrients properly and then the food irritate the bowel as it passes through. There are commercial enzyme replacers on the market but you can also use natural whole foods to replace the enzymes. Pineapple and Papaya are high in proteolytic enzymes. You would also need to repair any damage done to the gut as colitis can become ulcerated. I like bovine colostrum for gut repair....it's proven and has other benefits. Good luck Edited to say : If the vet puts the dog on antibiotics get some Protexin too. Antibiotics are not selective in the bacteria they kill so you will kill the good bacteria also. Protexin replaces the good bacteria and re-balances the gut flora.
  10. I clearly see this thread in a very different light to "RSG" and some others. When a puppy buyer goes to a breeder who passes on these types of lies, the puppy buyer has nothing upon which to form a different opinion to that which is tauted by the breeder- therefore the lie is perpetuated and the breeders intention is achieved. Should a potential puppy buyer see this thread and see how ridicolous these lies are and how often it happens, when they come across a breeder who displays this behavoiur they are more likely to say to themselves "ah...you're one of those! - I'll take what you say with a pinch of salt!" As for reporting this type of behaviour - good luck - the standard answer is "welcome to the dog world". I personally do not see this as a negative - I never see the truth as a negative. It is a pitty that competition brings out the worst in some people and a greater pitty that some are unable to see past their own kennels, but the truth should not become a victim. The vast majority of us simply ignore these lies and avoid those who perpetuate them but it does hurt. I say well done to those of us who after having been wronged refuse to play the same game. If ever pushed for an opinion on a breeder I have no faith in - my answer will simply be "Our code of Ethics prevents me from answering that question". Have a good day and don't stoop to their level!
  11. A - I don't recall the perpetrators names being mentioned B - They are rumours about us......not the other way around
  12. Talk to the vet about giving Colostrum in the diet - Colostrum has been used in IBD, Crohns disease, Pancreatitis and lots of other gut problems. It helps to heal the gut. Glad to hear he's doing better.
  13. If Bonnie gets to boisterous Charlie just sits on her
  14. I'd love to try it but I know what mine will do We tried an anti- bark collar on one of them a while ago (just the one that emits the squeel) within 5 minutes it had been chewed off by the other one and they were both standing over it barking at it to set it off...
  15. That I'm causing trouble for the breed and people should stay away from me. That was after I sent a dog back to his breeder because of a temperament issue - after consulting our vet and a behaviourist.......
  16. The 2 vets in Adelaide we trust are Chris Gerling - Noah's Crossing Vet Clinc - Lewiston, and John Katakasi - Adelaide Plains Vet Surgery - Two Wells. John is a greyhound specialist but does still see other breeds. Most of the breeders/exhibitors I know see one of those and some of them come from Murray Bridge to see them! For a Chiropractor I'd recommend Andrew (Andrija) Mladenovic in Kilkenny. He deals with a lot of dogs but mostly Greyhounds. He also does a great job on my back. The massage before the manipulation is great. My dogs have been know to fall asleep during the massage....
  17. EmyLeigh - call the breeder first.....if you are still not happy take the pup to Chris Gerling....... I'll even send you a referal tag which will get you a 10% discount..... Edited to correct the name - sorry
  18. quote name='Paptacular!' post='5003203' date='5th Dec 2010 - 09:39 PM']Are there any foods that naturally contain folate? For something to dogs WOULD eat - beef liver. Coconut water (not milk) also contains folic. It has even been considered as medium for canine IVF of viable Oocyst impant.
  19. To me it sounds like she is a bit constipated and that will happen if the stools are to dry. Not all commercial foods agree with all dogs. Change her (not everyone) back to your old one and see how she goes.
  20. I have one of the expensive ones too - not big enough - my hairdryer and "stuff" lives there now. I've got the tool caddy for the stuff that comes to the show with me and the rest of it is in one of the cheap two tiered, wheeled tool boxes. Piper - I agree - you can never have to much "stuff" (are you showing this weekend?)
  21. Before you go to the expense of Enzyplex try pineapple or papaya - they are both high in proteoletic enzymes and a darn site cheaper....
  22. Might be worth takeing her to a doggy chiro......appears to be happening when she stretches - could be pinching something.....
  23. That's a good tip . I like that idea too - will be handy tonight.....36 degrees here today and a 6:30 pm show start.....
  24. You'd fall over laughing at all the gear I have.......
