  1. I'm going to assume (and I know I should not) that being a Dogue it "might" be one of Chris Gerlings?????? Whether it is or not have a talk to him at Noahs Crossing - he breeds them and is our vet....
  2. Use human grade mince...it's better for them.
  3. I've never had black stools with the Iams and sorry - I can't help with the carcasses either. Another paranoia of mine is small bones lodging in the throat, stomach or intestine - I only give big meaty bones - about once a week.
  4. I have always started mine on Large Breed Puppy Iams (up to at least 12 months) but I never feed Pal....yuk ... Mine now get a good quality adult biscuit, human grade raw beef mince, pineapple, grated carrot and high quality colostrum. I find that lamb mince is to fatty (I have one on a diet) and I'm paranoid about the "bugs" in white meat.
  5. I love it! - Reminds me of mine before we put the artificial turf down and they would play in the rain...
  6. The pet shop near us is quite good - only negative is that they sell live pups and kittens. The pens are the largest I've seen and are floor to ceiling with good ventilation and A/C - always clean (but still - live animals). The place is always clean and plenty of room. Everything is easy to find - toy isle, food isle, grooming isle, special needs...etc. They do a good job selecting the products too - no cheap crap - even the pins on the brushes have been checked to make sure they are not to sharp. Not overly pricey either.
  7. Mine left today but they promised it would be there on time..
  8. Just a suggestion.....why not try taking her out for a few herding runs? She gets to use her instincts and learns to take her queues from you and wait until you give them.
  9. I've only ever paid about $200 including having them read.
  10. Bonnie only barks because Charlie does...you're right - distract them and ignore them. Bonnie is now asleep at my feet and Charlie has ducked under the covers....big chicken!
  11. Well like it says - It's thundering and the dogs are going nuts....I need some ear plugs for them...
  12. How does this sound? Your guest is categorically incorrect. Pure breed dogs by nature are structurally sounder than cross breed dogs due to the similarities in phenotype. The cross breeding of animals with dissimilar phenotype leads to structural instability due to the nature of genetics and how we inherit aspects of each parent. Just because one parent is one type and the other is another type does not mean you will get something in between which fits together properly! That is a misnomer which the Anti-Pure Breed people want you to believe. Facts are facts and Genetics is genetics. Responsible Pure breed breeders (as opposed to those Pure Breed Back yard Breeders) test their animals for genetic conditions when testing is available and study the blood lines, the breed and all aspects of breeding. Puppy Mills and Irresponsible BYBs get their hand on good healthy breeding stock and then proceed to breed for profit. It is from these people where sick, deformed, poorly bred animals come - and that is not restricted to pure bred dogs - it also includes your mutts!
  13. Parvovirus, Distemper & Hepatitis C3 C3 + Parainfluenza C4 C4 + Bordatella bronchiseptica C5 My understanding is that you can have a 3 yearly C3 and then have your shots for Parainfluenza and Bordatella as a separate shot if you need to (some breeds predisposed to vaccine mediated autoimmune conditions only have C3 done). Canine Cough you can have done annually also.
  14. Here are the pros and cons of early age spay/neuter....If you are concerned about a mis-mating then go for a vasectomy.. www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/longtermhealtheffectsofspayneuterindogs.pdf
  15. If it is a Belgian it could be a Malinois - but I'm not sure about the coloring....perhaps a cross?
  16. Mine has had all those - now he runs when he sees a needle....
  17. I've used both AND Kelco - It depends on what you want to achieve. I like Kelco because I can wire up a soft coat. I like the Isle of Dog products because they compliment the other products I use.... I use different ones for different reasons on different coats..It really comes down to what you want to achieve
  18. We used to use Frontline regularly - until it turned the white collars yellow (not a good look on a show dog - Judges tend to excuse the "blue" but not the bright yellow...). The rep told us how to fix it, but when we do need to use it now we don't use it on the whites...we prefer to treat the environment and monitor the dogs...easier and actually cheaper too (in the long run).
  19. Our house would not be the same without "tumble weeds" and wet floors.... Balance the good with the bad... Hair everywhere = dogs that love me Slobber on the floor = dogs that are happy to be here Kisses and cuddles = content friends who care about me
  20. I understand you pain - but for different reasons. I wish you all the best for the future...don't ever give up... Good luck and best wishes
  21. I was told some time ago that when feeding a balanced diet the volume of the food should equal 10% in cups of the ideal weight of the dog ...ie - a dog whose weight should be 28kg should be fed 2.8 cups of a balanced diet....however - as with people the metabolic rate is different and this needs to be considered. We have a beardie we struggle to get weight off...he is a "steroid puppy" - he was on steroids long term as a pup - short of starving him we can't get the weight off..and believe me we have tried...If you do find something which works - let me know! 35kg for a beardie is excessive...
  22. My understanding of Enzyplex is that it is a proteolitic enzyme replacement. Proteloitic enzymes are required to breakdown proteins in the gut. Without them the animal (including us) will not be able to absorb as much of the nutrients in the food as normal. With pancriatitis - the pancreatic enzymes leak into the gut - "killing" the gut enzymes and attacking and destroying the gut itself. You can replace this with papaya or pineapple both of which contain proteolitic enzymes - but talk to your vet first - the dosage I'm not sure about...
  23. I use human antihistamines on my boy - BUT that is at the vets recommendation - I would not give a dog human medication unless the vet suggested it.
  24. I have not used it YET - (not that I need to - I don't have that problem) but the Parasitology course does list it as an alternative control method for parasites. Ingested (food grade) it would be the same as carrot, coconut and a few others. Some parasites hide from the hosts immune system by covering themselves in the hosts enzymes...these products pass through the intestine and "scratch" the enzyme covering off the parasite making it easier for the immune system to identify the parasite.
