  1. Thanks everyone, I still can't believe he is gone. The anti inflammatories he was on for his arthritis were new ones the vet recommended. However, one side effect can be that dogs can develop ulcers and this is what happened to Micha. The ulcers ruptured which caused his intestine to perforate. I am lucky because my new pup is coming home on Monday so I have something positive to focus on, but my mum is on her own, and I am really worried about her. She messaged this morning saying she hears a noise and thinks it is him then remembers he isn't there any more. Luckily my sister is flying over next week.
  2. Thanks so much everyone for your thoughts. Micha meant so much to us. He is the reason I joined DOL and got bitten by the training bug. He helped shape who I am today, I owe him so much for all the things he taught me and the path he put me on. I am so sad he is gone, my mum is so devastated. She was crying on the phone to me earlier tonight because she was so upset at the thought of having to go home to a house with him and to have to put all his things away. I wish there was a way I could make it easier for her
  3. Mum was too upset to go into detail but said the specialist vet found it was a problem with his intestine, there was a ulcer that ruptured and there was nothing they could do.
  4. Yes he suffers from arthritis, and the vets suggested a new medication that would help him. IMO arthritis is something that is treatable and manageable so I wouldn't PTS based on that.
  5. For the newer people to DOL who might not know him, this is our Micha Moo
  6. The new medication he was on made him feel heaps better, mum said he was running around like a puppy. He was a bit off his food on Sunday night then all of a sudden at around 3am went downhill. It is awful because it is so sudden and he was doing so well. We don't want him to be in pain but what if it is something treatable?
  7. I am so worried about my mum, she calls Micha her best mate, and loves him so much. She's in Perth so I can't even be there to help her
  8. You think it would feel somewhat easier when they are older, that it is sort of like nature taking its course. But it is so heartbreaking and hard no matter how old they are
  9. Thanks Tassie. He is such a loved member of our family. It is breaking my heart he is so sick. I wish we knew exactly what was wrong so we could make an educated decision as to what is best for him.
  10. The head vet at mum's local vet surgery just called and told her the only two options are to move him to the specialist hospital to see if they can pinpoint exactly what is causing this, or to have him PTS Making the decision to PTS is hard when we don't know what exactly is wrong and whether it is treatable. I feel so bad this is happening to him, he is such a loving and happy boy.
  11. Guys, I need positive vibes right now. Our poor old husky Micha has been at the vet for the past two days. He went down hill really quickly on Sunday and was vomiting non stop and couldn't stand, eat or drink. The vets initially suspected severe pancreatitis but test results are showing a problem with his colon, however they still aren't sure on the cause. He recently went on some new anti-inflammatories for his arthritis and the vets think the medication could have caused some damage to his organs, but they aren't sure. The vet just called my mum and told her Mish has gotten worse and has gone downhill badly. She is now transferring him to a specialist hospital. He is badly in pain and cries when he is moved. Please cross your fingers and and paws for Micha, he is 12.5 years old but we thought we would have more time with him. My mum doesn't want to make the decision to have him PTS until we can identify what is wrong with him and see if it is treatable. I haven't been able to stop crying and my heart is breaking for him and my mum, especially as we only recently lost Cherry too. So worried for our poor Mishy
  12. Here's a pic from yesterday... a very important part of puppy raising, training the selfie :p Blaze is saying "I got this bitch"
  13. I have been trying to get some good shots this week but it's so hard at this age as they do. Not. Stop. Moving. And especially love attacking the camera and your pants! ETA: we did upload a new video of them today though :)
  14. No I didn't start handling her until she was 8 months. But I did help Steve temp test her litter so have known her since she was a baby. :)
  15. Miss Pink :) Good - because she is my fave (so is miss pink from the previous litter). I am so glad I ended up with Miss Pink as it is my favourite colour
  16. My pup officially leaves the nest in just over a week and a half. Excited :D it has been over 8 years since I had a baby pup in the house!
  17. Thanks guys she is just delightful and already a little prey machine
  18. I didn't care what I ended up with! But we need to run on another bitch so Blaze was the perfect choice :)
  19. Isn't she She's my pup :D And hopefully will help continue Steve's breeding program if she turns out how we think she will :)
  20. Seems to be a lot of puppy breath around DOL lately :D I am super excited to introduce my new baby, Blaze (aka Herzhund Blaze of Glory). She's one of Wisdom's babies, so I am sure she will be just as special as her mummy. She's six weeks old so we still have another couple of weeks before the pups fly the coup. Isn't she lovely
  21. We have a private FB page for our puppy owners to post in and they love it as they get to talk to each other and us easily and share pics, videos etc.
