Here is Wiz in her new collar, it has a handle on it too, love how it looks.

Ah yes that sounds like the Star Mark durafoam one, they are def my favourite (and Wisdom's). I love all the Starmark Chuckit gear, it is really good quality though I haven't personally used the Flying Squirrel. The durafoam discs come in bright yellow as well as blue and purple, so the yellow might also be visibly appealing?

They are a favourite here, has put up to a years worth of river retrieving and countless sand burying sessions without a mark so far. I leave christmas shopping to the last moment so I'm not sure I was thinking of buying the Chuckit Squirrel... does anyone know if it works similar to a frisbee? I left her foam frisbee in the car and it warped so need a new one Water toys are used a lot here unfortunately I've lost a few like the Kong Stix and Bumi in the ocean because they didn't get retrieved ... the Rogz Lighthouse is a great toy for pools if anyone is interested! Is the foam frisbee the Starmark one? That is the best one I have found out of all the ones I have used, but the Chuckit Flying Squirrel can definitely be used as a frisbee too.

Daisy loves eating more than anything so I always give her a special treat on Xmas day. It's wisdoms birthday on Christmas Day so I always get her a cool new toy! I am thinking of giving her a Chuckit Kick Fetch ball as we lost her last one in the move. I also bought her an early present this year and got her a Tactical ID collar. It looks so awesome on her!!!

Thanks everyone, we are all really devastated. She had good innings but it was a bit unexpected and happened all of a sudden that she had to be laid to rest this weekend. She spent the last couple of years living with my nana who is in her mid 80s and is understandably really really devastated that she is gone

This is the first time I've ever had to make a rainbow bridge thread before, because Cherry was the first dog I ever owned. To our little Cherry bean, you were just two weeks away from your 16th birthday, you had been in my life since I was 10 years old. I begged mum for years to get me a dog (she thought it was a phase I was going through - ha!). I will never forget the day you joined our family. I felt like everything I had ever wanted came true in that moment because I finally got to say I owned a dog. You meant so much to me and when I moved out of home a couple of years ago I so missed seeing your little face every morning when I woke up, because you'd always sleep on my bed. You were my first ever dog and I will never forget how sweet, funny, cheeky and loving you were. I am so grateful I got to see you a few weeks ago but it breaks my heart to think of how excited you were to see me, I wish I could have been there yesterday to say good bye to you. You meant so much to so many people. Thank you so much for all the joy you bought not just to me but our whole family. Run free Cherry xx

I use parking too, it is important to me that my dogs learn to switch off when I need them too. If I get called to the ring then for whatever reason can't go in because they called too early or need to switch competitors or whatever, I don't want my dog amped up and 'leaking' drive I want to use in the ring. I prefer to have a 'lie down' command for parking. ETA: I am a bit iffy on the video though, why would anyone encourage a stranger to approach a restrained dog, with tension on the leash, sticking their hand in dog's the face? Way to get bitten 101...

We find the Ruffwear Webmaster harnesses are great for dogs that can houdini out of them :)
-
Don't stress, we have a waiting list of usually 6 weeks, one week will fly by! Just keep them separated for now as you plan to with the baby gates, it will stop Lucy rehearsing the behavior and will make it much less stressful for you. ETA: I'm sure you can get on top of Lucy's behaviour with the right help, she's far from the worst dog I've seen!
-
The most important thing is that you've recognized there is a problem and you are getting professional help. Plenty of people wouldn't bother with that!
-
I agree with others I wouldn't call that friendly, Bonnie's body language doesn't look relaxed, comfortable or playful. Reading the other dogs body language is a great way to get an understanding of whether the aggressor is being appropriate. if you are unsure, how the other dog is 'receiving' the attention can be a good test. Lucy's behaviour is very assertive and she is extremely confident in what she is doing. I have seen a number of dogs with similar behaviour, I'm sure it will be fixable with the right advice but you will need to be very clear and strict with the house rules. Lucy doesn't appear to be a dog I would be soft with, she is very confident in what she is doing. Let us know how it goes with jane!

I also live on acerage so don't bother walking my dogs but I exercise them daily (swimming, running etc) and train them every day as well. Because I work for a dog training company with a big indoor training shed, I always have an undercover area to play with/train the dogs :D

That's what I've been told as well. So far our summer bills haven't been too bad at all, at least compared to the winter ones! My winter bills don't look too bad until I add up the cost of firewood, way more expensive than Summer! I am also a tough (ex) QLDer so I don't use the AC willy nilly. It has to be predicted to be close to or over 40 before I would put it on (but my house does stay quite cool naturally)
-
My understanding that it is better anyway to leave it on if it is going to be a hot day, as the AC uses more power to cool down a super hot room (as opposed to putting it on in the morning where it is just 'maintaining' the existing room temp). At least that is what the Aircon people have told me!
-
If I know it is going to be a super hot day I always put my AC on in the morning so they house is cool when I get home, and also for the dogs. I don't want to come home to a stinking hot house anyway!
-
I would be putting some more rules and boundaries in place for Lucy ASAP. Things like being on the bed with you are privileges that my dogs earn through good behaviour, not something they can choose to do when they please. She needs to learn that access to resources she values comes through you, rather than thinking she controls them.
-
Moving can unsettle dogs and it wouldn't be unusual to see tension rise in this situation. That behavior though is going to get worse without the right training put in place. If you haven't already I would separate them during the day when you aren't there to supervise in case this is occurring when you're not there as well. There is no way I would tolerate that behaviour in my house - definitely get professional help ASAP. In the meantime I wouldn't be letting either dogs have privileges like time on the lounge, bed etc.
-
Have they only just started fighting since you moved? I would be removing the privilege on being on the bed (or ANY furniture) ASAP until it is sorted.

Awwww I love seeing kids that love getting involved in training :D

What Obedience Looks Like When You Add Drive!
huski replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
We have talked about the puppy courses we are running online but nothing has been opened publicly yet, as we have been running the courses privately (with existing clients etc) to make sure the new software is super user friendly. So watch this space for the courses we will open online next year :) -

We actually have a lot of interstate clients travel to see us for training and we have packages designed for this (clients come from QLD, VIC, ACT and even WA for example). However we will be bringing back our online courses early next year too :) -

Many of the dogs we work with aren't high drive working breeds, and many don't have an ideal 'start' or genetics but we work with the owners to get the best out of them. Two of the dogs in that video started with Steve because they have extremely bad nerves, anxiety etc and neither of the owners thought they would be able to trial them. But now both of those dogs not only score high scores in trials but have won the ring, High in Trials etc. The best part is you would not be able to tell watching the video which dogs they are :) -

oh please do Lisa, it would be great to meet you and Nova and get to work with you both :) If Daisy the Evil Beagle can do it, I don't doubt Horrible Herbert can too ;) -

You would have loved K9's stand at the recent I Love Dogs Show in Sydney. One of the dogs was working with their owner. Steve tried to interrupt their focus with the same ball on a rope. No chance until the owner gave the stop command. Then the dog dive-bombed the other ball. Dog was having a total blast in front a whole group of strangers. Huski does not know yet.... I am going to dognap the beagle AND Wiz!!! j/k truly Lol VM! That dog and handler team you saw at the show was LMSW who made the video :) Roscoe is a pretty cool dog and he did some great work at the show demonstrating how we can train dogs to have high focus around distraction. PS if you dognap my beagle just be prepared to have no food left in your house
