Totally agree! And thank you again for organising it, I got so much out of it and I'm sure everyone who attended did too. Hopefully in another year or two my terrible two will have some good TID progress to show off!

I agree with Stormie and Miss B. You've gone through - however you like to put it - two dogs in two weeks. The last thing you should be considering now is taking in a third. You said yourself that you aren't getting a puppy for you, but for JP. Do you even want another dog? As Miss B said, you have decided you aren't "lab" people. The only problem you have raised with your pup is that it nipped your kids, which is a common puppy trait in all breeds! And if it wasn't the nipping - what was it? What if you had a perfectly behaved little angel of a lab puppy, would you still not be a "lab" person? How will you be prepared if your new samoyed pup has the exact same behaviour? My advice is to hold off another pup for a while - six months or however long it takes for you to be sure that you are prepared for another dog.

That's not a bad turnout! Sounds like most people are coming for Saturday, which is awesome! I'm so excited

Thanks Seita, do you know what our final numbers are re: attendance? I am thinking there will be a fair few people!

Micha loves Daisy's crate, he is always trying to get in it! The new one we have for her is huge and more than big enough to fit him in it, so he will be happy to "borrow" it from her for the weekend Mishy went to the groomers and everything on Monday so he will look nice and pretty

Not long to go now

Sarah I am so so sorry to hear about beautiful gorgeous Roggie He was such a handsome man, run free lovely boy to you

Ditto to tkay, I don't wash my Sibe often but when he is maulting I like to book him into the dog groomers for a professional wash and blow dry to get a lot of the excess hair out (probably 2-3 times a year max). I doubt he would get bathed more than 3-4 times a year. They are a naturally clean dog as dirt and grime etc slides off their guard hairs.

I'm not going to the night time session. Poor mum would be all by herself in the cabin otherwise I'm doing the full two days and that's enough for me.

We feed ours a combination of Royal Canin and raw. Works well for them :D

Then this is going to sound harsh but I think you need a wake up call. Stop being so emotional - yes I hear that you are an emotional person but that is not going to help you. What is done is done. Now you have to deal with it: rehome the dog to a suitable home and DO NOT get another, do not even consider it, any time in the near future until you have lowered your expectations; or realise that you have a baby puppy that you are now in charge of and accept that being a puppy you will need to train her and teach her things so that she grows into a happy, well behaved canine citizen. Dogs are not always easy, dogs can be HARD work especially puppies. With the two dogs you have acquired in the last two weeks I would assume this is quite clear to you now. I admit I do find it hard to believe you did all the research you claimed to do on labs yet you did not realise that they are gundogs, a retrieving breed and as such typically mouthy pups Please don't think I am trying to be mean, that is not my intention. You have gotten a lot of help from DOLers in this thread and in others. To do what is right for this puppy you need to make a commitment to keeping her or rehoming her and once you have made your decision, stick to it! ETA: Most of all I think I find it quite unbelievable that you would consider rehoming a little puppy you have had for a day or two because its doing something that is normal for puppies to do (nipping). I am actually quite gobsmacked that someone would give up so easily. Maybe in your heart you didn't really want another dog?

Just bumping my post up so Seita or K9 doesn't miss it - just wanting to work out what time we need to leave for Saturday's workshop etc.
-
Baby puppies developing bite inhibition don't really have "issues" - just like a human baby you need to teach a puppy what is right and wrong. Your puppy doesn't have issues, you just need to teach it the appropriate behaviour. Expecting a puppy to be as good as your Samoyed was when you got him is not fair on the puppy. Raising puppies is hard work. It's not supposed to be easy, it can be quite challenging. From your posts it doesn't sound like your pup is doing anything other than displaying normal puppy behaviour.
-
Sorry if I have missed something - but why not give her back to the breeder you bought her from?
-
What Midol doesn't know won't hurt him *plans to sneak off with spotty to pat Montu* ETA: Midol I'm sure it would be ok if you bring lily for the workshop and leave montu in the cabin.

Just a quick question - not long to go now!! - what time do we need to get there on Saturday?
-
Thanks guys! So no to the cob, but corn itself is ok?
-
Our dogs go nuts for corn on the cob but I have always been too wary to give them any. So, can dogs eat corn on the cob? can they just eat the corn stick left overs? must it be raw or is cooked ok? TIA

No it wasn't. It was a pet store (doesn't sell animals) on the gold coast. Must be a few around Sounds like there are a few of the same trainers in QLD -

Was this a pet store (that doesn't sell animals) in Brisbane? Sounds like a trainer I know who works at a pet store. She likes to peddle a halti as a purely positive/kind tool but the reality is that its not IMO any more "positive" than a check/prong/martingale etc. As others have said clicker training isn't about distraction, its more like a cue for the dog to understand when they have done the right thing.
