I agree, as it teaches the dog that you control the resource and they play with it when you say. ETA: We also have an 'ok' command that tells the dog when it can grab the toy, as well as 'give' to surrender the toy.

Sounds great Mohican Glad to hear you are on the right track now

I know people who have hung a little bell next to the back door and taught their puppy to ring the bell when they want to go outside - TerraNik and Sam&Saki have both done this if my memory serves me correctly!

That's great! I love how the crowd cheered him on when he jumped out of the police car!! And then when he tackled that guy....ahhh

Yep, if you are in NSW I would only ever recommend Steve at K9 Force (K9 Force on this forum): http://www.k9force.net/

I have a couple of orbee balls that I bought from Steve - they are available on his website

He reeeeeeeeeeeally wanted to play with Mischa. Actually he whispered in my ear and asked if that was his Mummy and I had to break the news that Mischa is actually a boy. He's just so darn pretty.... You're lucky that my daughter Kaiah didn't sneak him into our cabin actually - she's obsessed and hasn't stopped talking about him! Funny little bugger Kaiah was just adorable. She is welcome to have Micha pats and cuddles whenever she likes!

That's great news TL! Hershey is adorable. Daisy would have been 100 times worse with barking and whinging but because she would have been so darn excited I have to make a video of her doing drive development because she is responding so well to the tug toy Oh and Mojo is just adorable! Mcg, glad to hear there was no torn clothing
-
It's not that the dog won't respond to anyone else giving it commands or that it will only 'behave' when you are around. I think it would be easier for you to do something like drive training yourself as working with the handler should hold the highest value for the dog. But definitely contact Steve as he will be able to tailor the program to your situation and needs

I am so glad I wasn't the only one trying to hide my panic. Steve, will look forward to your next visit. I don't know about hiding it, Maree (BC4ME) was pissing herself laughing every time I jumped up from my seat when the little buggers landed on me

OMG, the horse flies were scaring the shit out of me! I have a phobia of insects Thanks for the compliment Monah you were so lovely! Just how I imagined you from your posts :D And monah the viz is so adorable, next time you have to bring the spinone Hopefully Steve will come up again next year and will do another drive based work shop, fingers crossed I will have a more obedient beagle by then

I think this a question best suited for K9 Force but I think it works best with just one person doing the drive training, although I could be wrong. I am the only one who is allowed to do the drive training in our house.
-
I agree it is a topic that can cause a bit of confusion. The way I am starting to train drive means that the dog has to look to you for permission to play with the toy, so you teach the dog that it is a resource you control. So there is no room for the dog to see it as an opportunity to be aggressive or dominant
-
One large point of training in drive is that the dog will look to you for drive satisfaction which, when it comes to training sibes, can be a very useful thing K9 Force does drive training as distance learning package, so if you are interested I am sure if you email him he can set you on the right track and what would be most suitable for your pup. ETA: A thread on the topic: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...c=43795&hl=

Your puppy is gorgeous - there is nothing better looking than a sibe pup LOL! I would read up on training in drive, if you are already looking into programs like NILIF and TOT. You can use his prey drive and urge to tug on things to help you with your training. Prey drive is incredibly useful when training in drive and the way you develop it is by using a tug toy and encouraging the dog to want to play with it. You will find TID will help you control his prey drive too. An article on drive training: http://www.k9force.net/index.html?row2col2=tid.html

You mean when she was turning him on and off??
-
I'm sure he will appreciate it once he sees her behaviour progress even more  I don't blame you, she was pretty darn cool for a little Frenchie!

I love that pic! The focus is great and so clear. She loves working in drive  Sorry the pics aren't too clear, my little camera doesn't handle zooming that far too well Get your OH to put the prong on his arm/leg and maybe he might come around?
