  1. Can you please explain how you do this by bringing in a experts that claim the AST and APBT are the same? Wouldn't you be better off finding experts that say the opposite?
  2. The costs so far won't include extra staff, but I know it seems like it should because the charges can be enormous. They can't leave you alone in a vet clinic for liability purposes, too much dangerous equipment and drugs there. They obviously didn't know that she would get out and pull out her drip, they would have thought she needed it, maybe talk to them and ask if they can drop that off the bill. Animals can be unpredictable and sometimes things happen.
  3. If you want a vet nurse to stay overnight it will cost you extra, you'd have to pay their wages for the whole night. Dogs don't get out very often and it is negligent of the vet to let you take home a dog on a drip, so you wouldn't be able to have a drip on your dog at home unless you know what to look for and do. Though with some conditions it can be better to have the dog at home, but others it is better off at the vets.
  4. Think about it. It takes money to fight BSL, who would an organisation protect first if they have limited funds, those who pay money for membership or those who don't? A lot of pitbull people have nothing nice to say about ANKC breeders, even though some of their biggest BSL fighters are registered breeders who don't even have amstaffs. Did Chivers have legal representation, WTF was any of the applicants team thinking when they introduced some of their evidence? Why not rehome the dog instead of letting it spend 5 years in a kennel and put all that wasted money into a fund to actually fight BSL. I'd be mighty pissed at them if I were am amstaff owner right now. I feel so bad for all those owners, their dogs are now under a cloud of uncertainty.
  5. If people want the ANKC to fight for their unregistered dogs then they need to join as an associate and make your feelings known to them as a member. You wouldn't call the NRMA to help with your car if you weren't a member, but you expect a purebred dog registery to fight on your behalf without you joining?
  6. How about YOU do us all a favor and keep your Ignorant comments to yourself It's so easy there sitting at your computer and pointing fingers, about the only thing you're remotely good at The acts of people to save ONE byb bred dog is going to potentially ruin an ANKC registered breed and how many purebred registered dogs bred by responsible ethical people? I can point my finger and say what I bloody well like. This is the crux of the matter, but they won't see it. If you dare to criticise tactics you get abused, bit hard to feel sorry for those that drive away people that want to help them save their dogs.
  7. That is really insulting to every ANKC person who has fought BSL all these years.
  8. Plenty of people who are registered breeders have fought hard for the mutts as well. But if people don't want to help themselves then at the end of the day how can you help them? This case is very disturbing, I don't understand how anyone can be that shortsighted and have done this to another breed to save their own dog. The dog could have lived its life elsewhere, not been kenneled for 5 years and the pro-BSL brigade wouldn't have been handed a registered breed on a plate.
  9. Unless your dog is on a working registry then no dogs should be bred without ANKC papers. People need to realise that if they buy unpapered dogs they won't get the same support from the ANKC as the recognised breeds do.
  10. I'm still stunned at the evidence the applicants tendered, that has badly backfired, what were they thinking
  11. People have to be fair, there are a lot of people that have taken advantage of others on DOL. We are all about the dogs here and if someone turns up and misrepresents themselves then people deserve to know so they don't unknowingly allow them to access dogs. We've had people who use all sorts of excuses to scam people, suffering from cancer being one of them. DOLers have big hearts so they want to believe in people and help where they can and some take advantage. Plenty of times others have been prevented from being scammed out of money or dogs because some DOLers followed their instinct and did some background checks. People are rarely wrong when they expose someone.
  12. Exactly. If a newbie says oops, I have made a mistake and I am prepared to listen to those with more experience with me they get a very different reception to those who tell everyone to eff off and want to continue to do the wrong thing by their dog. If people just want to have a one sided discussion where only opinions they agree with can be posted they should start a one person blog.
  13. My buddy did this paper recently, let me know if you want it. Smith, B. & Litchfield, C. (2009). A review of the relationship between Indigenous Australians, dingoes (Canis dingo) and domestic dogs (Canis familiaris). Anthrozoös, 22 (2), 111-128.
  14. After seeing first hand how the condition of some animals are described by the RSPCA and the reality I won't take their word for it that the animals were in the condition they stated. There is a good reason we have lost respect for them, enough people have enough bad experiences with them and it isn't just paranoia.
  15. It just seems to me that the RSPCA pick those they will prosecute based on the ability of the defendant to pay a solicitor. How many cases do they proceed against when the defendant has money? Why won't they take on the livestock industry, we still have battery hens for goodness sakes!
  16. We need a herding training thread I think. I would book in but I won't have a car to get down there
  17. I think there is a need for a separate group because clearly the ANKC aren't stepping up.
  18. What will happen is good breeders who test will be driven out, so only poor examples of the breeds will remain and be used as justification to change the breed. They already use dirty tactics such as badly bred dogs to represent all breeders. I wonder how many animal rights people are on RSPCA boards?
  19. Here it goes, and they have enough money to get what they want. "We’d like the ANKC to prohibit the registration of 1st and 2nd degree matings; to open studbooks; and outcross then backcross where necessary to increase the genetic diversity within particular breeds."
  20. Too hard for the RSPCA to take on puppy farmers so they target registered breeders instead. I'm almost at the point where I'll give up my plans to go back into showing, who needs to be made feel like a monster when you are doing the right thing.
  21. Pyr is heat, so the cysts might be caused by heat or feel hot. Mutant hairy feet reminds me of mutant hairy tongues, which makes my normally strong stomach feel like evacuating :D
  22. Lit searches can be a real pain in the bottom. Do you use google scholar? Interdigital furunculosis I think is the correct name for interdigital cysts, but I could be wrong. inter = between, digital on a dog is toes, can't remember the bits of furunculosis :D It gets easier though when you know a bit of the jargon, you are a smart cookie and you'll grasp all this stuff.
  23. While looking up training info for herding I came across this DVD set "First Steps in Border Collie Sheepdog Training" and it looks good, link below. Has anyone bought this DVD and would you recommend it? I have Scott Lithgow's book, but any other essential resources I should have? Linky
