  1. Results will be posted HERE ...you know...when they get around to it... Sigh. Hehehe, ST - yes, I know, amazing that Fionni might actually have a smile at a show, eh? :p Hardly his style.
  2. Thanks - though I thought he looked a bit like his usual plonker self Still - that was his 5th BOB win in a row at the Perth Royal...pretty happy with that ;)
  3. BOB pics starting to go up. Can be found HERE
  4. The Irish judge was rough with mouths, too, and checked every tooth. Glad I didn't have to put a baby in.
  5. Yeah, I thought it was a bit short-sighted. Not only were the public sitting IN the marshalling areas, which could cause issues for some dogs especially at the end of the week, but I couldn't help but wonder how much dog wee was on the ground where they were sitting!! Also...NOT at all pleasant that the only toileting area for conformation dogs is now less than half the size that it was last year (already tiny). And screened away, as it is, even by midday on the first day of the show, it STANK something awful. Not going to be nice come BIS day...
  6. I think they need to review the PA system in the pavilion. It is extremely difficult to hear any announcements over the general crowd noise. They need a sharper, louder PA - and until they do, it should be a woman giving the announcements, because it is almost impossible to hear a man's voice over that deep hum of noise.
  7. Hope the BOB winners enjoy the worm tablets they're offering as the prize this year (Though I have to say, it is nice to have SOME form of sponsorship this year. I'm not ungrateful. But worm tablets are a bit...unglamorous! And wI'm not sure Fionni will be thrilled with his prize when it's shoved down his throat ) Just a weird day overall. There were hardly any dogs there and the hall felt empty and lifeless - not to mention stinking hot and stuffy. Judging was all done before 12pm, which made for a very long afternoon. The usual interesting judging decisions - including my own bitch, who was non-awarded! Interesting decision - and interesting reason given by the judge, since she was a two-times European specialty winner Oh well. Luck of the day, I guess! No break given to exhibitors over lunch, so the public were there ALL day. Of course, having Irish Setters, that meant dealing with the "they're so stupid!" comments non-stop...which wears VERY VERY thin after the 200th time... Also, the only warning we had to get ready for judging was the final, "Get to the ring now!" call. Which of course happened while my husband and child were next door in another pavilion. Standing there with two ungroomed dogs, no leads, no numbers, and no handler...a bit stressful. Big thanks to SparkyTansy for all her help...and for nearly having to step into the ring in her civvies to handle my hastily dog lol Anyway, back on Saturday for BIG with my boy, so we get to enjoy it all over again! Best of luck to everyone today and for the rest of the week.
  8. Interesting day at the Royal...lol
  9. Poor Gibbs! Tooth breaking must be the thing to do for Lab puppies. Our Lab, Zep (now nearly 7), did the exact same thing when he was Gibb's age. (One of MANY things he did as a youngster...) One thing about Labs - sometimes, they scream like they're dying for the slightest thing (like the other morning, when Zep screamed the house down because I NEARLY trod on his tail - my foot was still a few inches away), but they are also incredibly stoic and heal fast. It's keeping them quiet that's the real problem, especially when they're wriggly, wiggly puppies I hope his mouth heals quickly.
  10. Since no one else has started a thread about it, I guess I will Good luck to everyone entered.
  11. Ah. So, basically, we could be waiting all day for the "first available ring" or we may strike it lucky and get a ring first-off! Yay Oh well. OH and child will have a wonderful day, wandering around the show grounds, and I will be sitting solo on a bench all day with the doggies...
  12. Showdog, any idea when Irish will be judged on Saturday? Are we up first? Or are they going to make us sit around all day...?
  13. I'm sure most exhibitors would rather their dogs got a chance to get back to their crates and relax (not to mention relaxing themselves, with a glass of something nice, at the end of a long show!) than stand out in the ring, in all weather, if the judge isn't going to look at them anyway. My boy, for example, wilts in the heat and becomes completely miserable. His comfort is more important to me than any admiring looks anyone standing outside, in the shade and in comfort, may bother to throw his way. (And most of the time, I'm sure the comments aren't so admiring anyway.) The point of showing is about the judge's opinion, not the opinion of the onlookers (or so I've heard...). I'd rather my dog was resting in his comfy, padded crate than standing out, needlessly, in the ring when I knew full well the judge wasn't interested. BOB is nice, but sometimes it's as far as you go, and you know as soon as breed judging is over that you're not going any further. The only time it sucks to be dismissed from the ring is when the judge doesn't bother looking down the line but picks the winner before you barely get into the ring to set up. Again, the judge knows what they want...but that's the only time I find it rude to be on the receiving end of it - and even then, it's more about feeling like you got your money out of your entry than being upset at losing. Nothing worse than feeling like you've paid to be ignored.
  14. Seemed a bit of a pointless survey, to me. There were no allowances made if you had more than one dog - despite them asking how many you had. Eg, you could only select "desexed" or "not desexed" - I have 2 who are, and 2 who aren't. So my answers weren't correct...ergo, pointless survey. ETA: typo
  15. Nope, because then they have a "naughty" name. Eg, "Fionn, come here!" Or..."Fionneaghan!! Get off there with your muddy paws!!!!"
  16. Yes I agree Faolmor, since when has it been against the rules for people to cheer A congratulations was missed - another ring debut today, Faolmor's little girl did an awesome job handling Foinni in kindy handlers ;) Hope you get to the bottom of things quickly. Yes, and in the process, we created a mini-handling-monster. She spent the rest of the afternoon, walking around, saying, "I want to win! I want to win!" LOL (I think that translated as, "I want another cup of lollies." Which she didn't eat anyway, other than to lick each one and palm them off either to dad or mum...) We might have to coach her a little on what to say to the judge, too, as apparently when the judge asked what Fionn's name was, she responded with, "Irish Setter." Then proceeded to point out all the other Irish Setters she could see. When she was asked if she knew how old Fionn was, she said, "Yes," and then left it up to the judge to guess Too cute, really.
  17. Huge congrats to ST for her results today with her first home-bred litter. They all looked great! (I have to say, as a member of the "peanut gallery" it would have been nice to be able to offer you congratulations without the snide remarks from other, less successful exhibitors, wafting over to ruin the moment... Some people love to have enemies, whether the other people have done anything to them or not, which is nothing short of an indictment on their character, IMHO.) And well done to RV with Zora - who is so unbelievably cute I almost puppy-napped her and took her home. My poor boy is off to the vets on Monday, to try to discover what happened to his foot

  19. Comets just look kind of like the rosette part fell off the top...
  20. Sigh. I know the OP means well, but I get annoyed by these threads, because to me, to comment about how a dog can title without ever beating another dog shows a basic lack of understanding of how the CC system works. Every dog is judged against the standard FIRST, before it is judged against competition (if you are lucky enough to have it on the day). Being judged against the standard IS being judged against another dog - the ideal dog of your chosen breed. If you happen to also have competition, you can then enjoy the luxury of having your dog picked as that which, in that ring at that time, is the closest to the ideal - according to that judge. One would hope the integrity of judges in this country is such that a dgo who makes it to 100 points WITHOUT competition is of sufficient quality to merit the title...because all those different signatures on all those 6 point CC say so.
