Re: Shiloh shephard - aren't they pure GSDs just taken down another breeding path to produce a different look - in their case a reversion to what the original breeders memory of shephards were many years ago. And the shiloh shephard people are very focused on temperament. It appears similar to what traditional siamese breeders have done and why we now have a cat breed known as Thai's which are traditional (ie: old style) siamese.
To me, whether you agree with the premise or not, that is very different to crossing 2 different breeds and ending up with a strong prey driven cross bred sold under a fancy name coming from a breeder that is unlikely to be temperament testing, let alone any other sort of testing, socialised puppies or doing anything else a responsible breeder would do. Anyone that is happy to have their puppies sitting in a glass fronted cabinet exposed to everything at 8 weeks isn't someone I would trust to buy a puppy off. And I can imagine these "rare breed" puppies are worth big dollars. Why not take him to Renbury and see if he will take on the same cross for a lot less money and stop a dog being PTS needlessly. That is if he insists on this cross
Shilohs have Malamute ancestry though.xxx

Stunning puppy, big congratulations on your little angel!xxx

We have one at obedience and it's called a Shilo Shepherd???
Not sure but I think all this crap started in USA and they are popular over there...of course.
Everyone has great suggestions. Good luck.

I'd go Blue Picardy too! Lovely dog and nice size, none here
The kooki...sorry spelling can be very very active as far as I have heard..make tollers look lazy
THe norwegian buhund although a terrific and lovely dog usually needs quite a firm leader and is also very thick in the coat, like a sibe..(I have not personally met either breed, only have aquaintances who show OS and see them)
I have cuddled large musterlanders..LOVELY, and HUGE
I think a vizsla would be perfect, short coat, gorgeous looking, very trainable, a HPR breed so SHOULD not herd, annoy, kill, etc. any stock, they do however POINT which is very handy for me as here we have snakes! so I always get a warning and when pointing my dog does not move until I give the OK, most start this at a few weeks old all on their own.
THey love to be close to you all the time including off lead walks,...my viz only needs a rubber glove rub every few weeks or more if you want, takes about 2 mins! They are very very focussed dogs and definitely the king of velcro dogs. I've had many breeds and all have loved to be with me, but a viz really is different!
Friends with pointers (lovely dogs!!) have the 'white hair ' issue where they lose little white hairs that seem to stick to everything!!! and pointers are larger than a viz.
Viz bitches average around 23 or so inches and about 22 kgs. A male a little larger. My girl is a large girl and I've seen many much smaller than her. They can curl up into nothing!! A tight ball on my lap
They love to run but also LOVE the sofa.. ;) and as long as 'you' are there they are happy.

OF course Enzo is first on the list!! ;)
Wash your mouth out Monah!
;)
SPRUNG
Well, Enzo is a 'relative', I guess that might let me off??

thanks all for the suggestions, so many ideas, ill have to have a chat to the other half about it. i personally would like a dog thats easy to train and recall. but im sure we will find the right match!
If the main prerequisites are these and as a running friend for the GSD, I too think another working dogs would be great, kelpie, ACD or BC and agree with the person who said there are SO MANY of these types who need a good home If you get a 'rescue' dog you can usually have a trial and in this way could see how the two dogs get on. Sometimes dogs just dont 'click' no matter what breed, even the same breed. The three breeds I mentioned are easy to train and if trained, have great recall.
I love greys to bits :D
Vizslas and boxers are great too (and all others mentioned), vizslas are extremely demanding and like to be with their humans.. whereas the working dogs I've had are a little more independent..
Good luck :D

OF course Enzo is first on the list!! ;)

Alex is such a cutie!!
I've met very out there ones who are very busy!! These were females though and I personally find females of many breeds more busy than the big goofy boys :D The boys are lovely, they are a wonderful breed, ....so many great breeds, so little time
I've not been to NZ but Alex may tempt me!
-
They are special
Diva and Groucho In Adelaide are gorgeous..
I could have taken the girls in scotland back with me!! dream on...

-
I love these little dogs! Congratulations.!!!
There is one I see very often at shows, a little boy, and his 'brother' is a borzoi they look marvellous together and are terrific friends.
this is oone of the breeds I have on my list..I'd love to know how things go and see more photos... ;)
-
I LOVE ocicats!!! :D

I've found dogtainers fantastic and jetpets awful also jetpets a lot more expensive. i guess it depends on who is on the other end of the phone..
they both use the same freight company who are pretty crappy. I have always spoken to the freight company myself and also dropped pets there myself with specific instructions and orders and many stickers on animal boxes etc!! I also always ring airports to check on their regs. and they do not mind this at all. I prefer to double check things myself.
I have also flown pets from rural areas and done my homework myself first. Many rural airports/planes do not take pets, or else have many restrictions or even only take one per flight so you need to make sure no one else is taking a pet on that flight..
Then there are all the different rules and regs for each airline and how much you can save if you travel with them (or someone else does) etc.
Usually if there is an issue it is brought about from the airfreight company or the airline itself, it's a bloody minefield and really needs to be regulated in some way.

Hope the little viz is OK now JJ.

OMG! Just read your posts in breeeders, but I cannot comment in there..I was wondering if you could paste your diagnosis in general as it's so rare and many general do not go to breeders pages???
How awful, poorboy has had such a rough trot during his short life..
Do you need anything, help with anything? Just ask...I'm available..
It will be good for the vets to know more about this too, I think they've had a few (thanks to Chase and Monah!!) very rare and strange things this week! Thank goodness they sent you to a wonderful specialist, there are some really excellent ones in QLD!! Something I'll miss badly if we move..
Love to Chase, hope like crazy he is OK..and you too.xxxxxxxx
-
I'm no help to you!! I stress badly over pets and kids...awful feeling. I've had to give up jobs from stressing over other people's children (and don't even start me on mine!!) and although I love animals I could never work with them..It's true worrying does not help at all, but I don'tknow how you are meant to stop doing it!
Hope you are OK.xxxxxxxxx

My spin breeder is a Myotherapist...but she's in Melbourne!
So I see a physio every fortnight at Tanawha near the Forest Glen deer sanctuary, she is FANTASTIC!!!! let me know if you need details.xxxx
-
I like poodles too. :D
I'll throw in Lakeland terriers.. definitely small, bold and active Lovely dogs, try meeting some at shows, they are adorable...they come in red and also with a black back. I had reds..
Adult weight should be around 7kgs. They are terrific all rounders and mine lived very happily and well with chooks, sheep, kids from newborns to adults and many cats. I have nothing negative at all to say about them. Wonderful breed
OHs cousin has tenties and they win at endurance titles, agility, tracking etc. Little champions!! Keep up for 20ks no problem at all, but they are kept fit!
-
I tell mine every minute how precious they are..I'm so sorry about Benson.
Monah was fine and normal and being a silly viz, an hour later I thought she had bloat! It was something else but very dangerous and rare and she had emergency surgery last weekend.. I was terrified. It was an awful and frightening weekend and I'm so lucky and blessed she is here with me on my lap! Life is very precious and the pain of loss is devastating.xxxxxxx

As I said last time this topic came up, I like my wheatens to be wheaten and my kerries to be blue.
and my Vizslas to be russet...
Would You Sell A Puppy..
in General Dog Discussion

I'm not a breeder but I voted No.
I could not let an animal go to a home I was not entirely comfortable with. Differences of opinion, sex, race etc. are not the problem though. It could be one little comment or action (when seen with pups etc. or even their children or partner) that puts me right off and once put off, that would be it for me..no puppy!! or kitty! etc.
