  1. He's got a BIG pile of dumped commercial mushrooms to snack on, so he's not going anywhere. When I got there this morning, I saw a fresh pile of poo that he had probably laid just this morning. No food ... no poo, so that's why I think he's getting into the mushrooms. I'm always .... dogs before humans, so I'm up for a "flush out" tomorrow ... and OH wouldn't dare say "no" to me when it comes to something like this, so that's a party of 2 here.
  2. It's only the height of the undergrowth that makes it difficult. If it was cleared, it would be easy peasy because he's basically penned in by concrete walls & cyclone fencing. I should have taken the camera with me today & posted some pics. Better than me trying to describe the layout. Night time will be a b!tch without flood lights. It's wet under foot & the potential for a broken "something" isn't worth it. We basically need a sweep search of lots of bodies on either side to flush him out of the heavy growth. Knowing he camps under that car roof is a better start than going to the site & wondering where the little bugger is hiding. Standing still with a couple of good pairs of binoculars isn't such a ridiculous suggestion either. If no-one's been out there after I've been to club tomorrow morning, I'll whip out there, take some photos & post them so you have a better idea of what we're dealing with.
  3. I agree. The area is very large & just 2 people on their own with all that tall undergrowth have got no hope.
  4. OK Kamuzz. Here are the photos. You organise the rest cause I'm crappy at that sort of stuff ....
  5. Very true. I'm just back from dog club this minute. I also use this "lead over the chest" method to get Tara moving with me again if the class has been standing around for too long while the instructor yaps on or focusses on a particular dog & handler. It's so much better & more effective than dragging her after me to try & motivate her to start heeling in the right postion. After only a few strides like this, I can drop the lead to the correct position & we're heeling like a "team" again. Tara & I must have looked good today, because the instructor is a hard core Ob trialler & bloody tough. We've been in grade 3 for 3 whole years & today we got passed into grade 4. This method works. I hope more people try it & have success.
  6. My ears are burning. A friend with Great Danes taught me that 2 lead method. I've been training Sheppies for years & have a good few fail proof things in my "kit of bits" for training. When Tara came along, nothing & I mean NOTHING worked with that girl of mine. She's the strongest dog I have ever owned. An instructor & experienced GSD trainer & owner had hold of her one day at school to demo a task. He's a tall bloke. Over 6 foot in the old scale, with a bit of weight & strength behind him. We were chatting, Tara saw something she was interested in and before he could gather himself, she'd pulled him over & had dragged him a good 30 feet across the ground. I then learned this 2 lead method & never looked back. Tara's so used to the lead flopping on her chest now, I only need the one lead now, so I can quickly flop her leather lead into the chest position when I need to. I've shared my experience with a few people who have all reported great success in a very short timeframe. Give it a go if your dog is a lunger/puller & you'd like your left arm to remain the same length as your right one.
  7. ;) Surely not. How is that possible? Mmmm ....very chilled bubbly with fine bead .... yummy. Congrats to the winners.
  8. Thanks Sway I'm on to the new thread & following with much interest. There's heaps of people that don't belong to DOL who are interested in these awards, so I'll keep them posted .....
  9. When do the award annoucements start please. I have my "trigger finger" on that champagne cork & I'm keen to start popping & sipping.
  10. I lashed out & got a bottle of Piper Heidsieck. The wee beasty is chilled & very frosty in the fridge right now just waiting for the "starter's gun". I might be at home dressed in shorts & a T-Shirt and working on chicken livers, but there's no reason why I can't celebrate all the well deserved wins with a decent bottle of bubbly. Last year's commentary was "the bomb", so thanks in advance to Megz & Sway for doing this again this year.
  11. Don't forget to keep us updated with the awards as they are happening tonight please.
  12. Thanks Anne. I should still be up by then. My goodness. My heart is starting to flutter just at the thought.
  13. I have to work & someone has to stay home & look after the fur kids. Sending a rep though, so he'll fill me in on all the festivities if I haven't read about them all on this thread or elsewhere on the forum. I'll have to pace myself with the bubbly though. My category is right at the end of the presentation. I don't want to peak too early & be when the announcement is made.
  14. OO goodie. I was able to follow the progress of the awards via this forum last year. I was hoping it would be the same this year. I'll get a bottle of bubbly & you all as the winners are posted.
  15. Hey Cazzie .... how did you resize that winners logo ?? Mine from last year looks way too big. Also, Steve said I should get this year's nom one on my siggie as well, but I haven't rec'd anything & I don't want to possibly break forum rules by copying off someone else's sig. Come to think of it, my siggie probably needs updating any way. Are you able to help in that department as well as I'm technically very challenged. Ta in advance. (sucking up smile)
  16. Sorry. I don't have it to add to my sig. I'm not sure I'm allowed to just copy it from someone else's sig am I ? That would be a bit naughty wouldn't it ?
  17. Hi Julie, I left message on your office phone number & sent an email re my rep for the night. Hope you got them. I still have many happy tears thinking about the beautiful nomination letter you read out to me over the phone. There are some very special people out there who truly care about what we do for our 4 legged friends & take the time to write a nomination for these awards. Many thanks to my nominee & to the MDBA for providing the awards. Cheers Lynn
  18. Every dog is different though Tomas :D That's why it's very "trickey" trying to get just the right balance. 80% meat just wouldn't work for my Mishka at her age. She's nearly 12 & needs more fibre in her diet (raw, ground up vegies) to keep her system "running on all cylinders". The percentages you're recommending are probably great for your current situation, but this will change over time. I think that's why this is such a great thread ... there's no exact science & people are willing to discuss their own particular experience(s) in order to help someone else out ....
  19. Mine old boys were never keen on their veggie slop meals unless I added either a tin of sardines to their bowl (mixed through thoroughly with fork to break them down) or put some liver in the blender with the veg. I will say without it they would eat it but it was more slowly and less licking clean of bowl afterwards. Have you looked into using my Apperteaser Powder just get them going when they might turn their nose up at what you've offered ?? Just a suggestion .....
  20. my dogs have had raw. chopped broccoli for years. :D
  21. I'm not that strict, so I'd say "yes". Not sure what everyone else thinks.
  22. If you mean together in the same meal, in my experience, yes.
  23. I give my dogs a frozen chicken carcass every day.
