Have you tried processing it in a food processor and mixing it with yoghurt? Or sardines mushed up?

Perhaps have a chat with your vet Kirsty and they might get something like Eukenuba/Iam Response FP (Fish and Potato) in for you. Sounds like a combo of allergies - did the vet offer you antibiotics to get rid of the yeast infection and Panalog for his ears??? Personally - if you can afford it I would ask to get a referral to a dermatologist but perhaps before doing that maybe do an 8 wks for elimination trial. Here a great site pretty much giving you step by step instructions for a food elimination trial. See if you have completed one before you see a dermatologist you will save yourself a couple of consult fees. Hi Kirsty Sorry to hear that your Basset is having skin issues - have you had it diagnosed by a vet or dermatologist? Skin problems can be extremely varied and can be caused several different things such foods or envirnomental allergens like pollens or dust mites etc. I had by Golden tested for allergies earlier this year and we are currently undergoing immunotherapy (desensitation injection) to try to control his allergies. However I am also supplementing with fish oil and evening primrose oil, as his coat and skin are very coarse and dry. However this is not assisting anywhere near as well as Mega Oil did when we was having that daily - so I will be switching him to that again. Yet this may not work for your dog, but the supplement you're talking about may. Omegaderm sadly would create further problems for my boy as he is allergic to wheat and we can not use Oatmeal shampoos either as he is allergic to oats. So Benson is bathed weekly in Alpha Keri Wash and has Alpha Keri Oil poured over him after without rinsing off and he is feed a completely raw diet of RMB, Muscle Meats, Offal, Vegies and Yoghurt. So I guess what I am saying is, there is no simply fix. I mean cortisone, predinsone etc (which I presume your previous Basset took) can mask the problem and alliviate the symptoms but it comes with it's own health issues. Cortravence (steroid spray) is great though as it doesn't enter the blood strem and will not cause other health issues. Best of luck finding what works for Fred!

has she had roo before? if not they roo and sweet potato is a good starting point for an elim diet.

Wow this thread is doing my head in.. so much to take in. Just wondering why beef would cause an allergic reaction? This is going to sound stupid, but would you say that purchasing beef at different butchers may cause your dog to have an allergic reaction? or is beef just beef? I'm just curious, as my dog is going through some skin allergy issues, which I have posted up. Some have advise to take him off red meat for awhile. I believe that this allergy is caused by the wandering jew weeds, however thinking back now, I also purchased mince beef from a different butcher... Any meat can cause an allergic reaction. Do you have cause to think beef is an issue for your dog? Also some meat can be enhanced,with preservative,which is often soy or also sodium of some kind. That is most likely what would cause a reaction. My guys do WAY better on meat from large ungulates than they do from chicken. On chicken they get a dry coat and dandruff.I would now feed that as a last resort if I can't find anything reasonably priced,which is'nt often. People feed chicken cos it is cheap. I used to too years ago but once I shopped around I have been able to feed 5 dogs,who are VERY active and eat a heck of a lot for less than I could on a large bag of kibble a week. Tomas - I am wanting continue the trial regarding beef as on occassions I have notice Benson be itchier after eating a beef brisket bone. So how much is zinc should I give a dog that is approx 38 kgs please?

I would contact the comany that makes your brand of processor as usually they don't change the attachments much between models - more so the look/exterior to a more modern looking machine - so perhaps they will sell you that attachment. The knife is great for mincing kidneys and livers but use the shredding attachment for veg!

Ok question re vit E and Zinc. Currently my boy Benson is gettng 8 fish capsuls and 4 EPO capsuls a day and one vit E capsuls on Monday's is that enough Vit E for him? Or should I increase this to 2 or 3? Re Zinc - I am feeding chicken, lamb and roo - should I suppliment with zinc tabs once or twice a week as I am not feeding beef? (want to see if after 4 mths of feeding no beef then feeding beef will cause an allergic reaction). Thanks in advance guys!

Hi Bret I have a dog with Atopic Dermatitis and the dermatologist we are seeing has just advised me to wash my boy in Alpha Keri as it will assist with dandruff and reducing his itching even further! You can get it at a chemist and it is actually for dandruff. And yeah adding an omega oil supplement will help too!

Cool - I thought they would to give it flavour but I just wanted to make sure you didn't need to add more!

Well I buy a tub of yoghurt a week so I would definitely get use out of it and so would my wonderfully woofa's! And good to know cause I am not a sweet tooth either so just a little and increase it if need be!
