  1. Most of my yard is under water ....... the dogs DONT want to come inside though If this rain doesnt stop the whole yard will be under water.
  2. Tunnelers is a course with all tunnels. Touch And Go is a course with contacts and tunnels. There is normally an A-frame, dog walk, see-saw and tunnels. the one last night did not have a dog walk but had heaps of tunnels, a lot different to what they normally have. The courses are set at the same time as a jumpers course so they both have quick course times. Edited to add they are NADAC events, not VCA.
  3. You were home by the time we left LOL, much better than an early morning start though.
  4. It was a good night, thank god I slept in a little. Sparty is very cute, he did well. I managed to get lost in the touch & go around about obstacle no 10 LOL. It was a tricky course with the obstacle discrimination with the tunnel and A-frame.
  5. I must be lucky, my dogs love to eat the vegetables, unfortunately it is not something I feel all the time. Try a bit of apple in there or some sardines
  6. I would suggest Jean Donaldsons The Culture Clash
  7. same, Jan Fennell, got the name confused I think for the Dog Whisperer the Paul Owens one is the better one
  8. Merson - there was also an Afghan doing agility here. It was before I started trialling so never got to see it but certainly heard about it, they said it looked spectacular running the course. There was also a Pekignese doing agility at last year's Royal show. The lady came up and her dog was having a little play with Bella, I assumed that she was there to show until I saw her dog in the agility ring.
  9. Must agree about The Dog Whisperer. I borrowed it from the library and couldnt get much past chapter 1, but mainly because she claims to have discovered all these wonderful things that I had read elsewhere anyway, then she put them into a really weird context. Havent see The Truth About Dogs.
  10. Sorry, forgot to add the link - http://www.clickersolutions.com/reading.htm Sorry Tess, the monks are on the 'don't go there' list.
  11. Definately worth joining and entering. I do NADAC trials myself and it is fun, but won't be there this Saturday night. There are a few people from Ballarat that go so you might see some familiar faces. Touch and go and tunnellers are both fun, I would say give it a go. Hopefully your dog will be OK after the chrio. My dog Bella's back was out a bit when she returned to agility after having pups. At training she suddenly stopped doing jumps so I knew there was a problem and she was fine after she had her back fixed. If your dog does still not want to jump after her treatment there is a brilliant vet in Geelong who does accupuncture that got Bella in shape after an injury that chiro treatments hadnt worked as well on. PM me if you are interested, but hopefully it won't be necessary anyway.
  12. This link has a list of recommended books, including a category for behaviour books. Also if you are having trouble finding them natures creatures books in Victoria should be able to get most of them.
  13. Hi, may not be suitable for a 9 month old but I just stumbled across this link regarding dogs and children and though you might be interested - http://www.clickertraining.com/training/in...ce=home_feature
  14. Petnetwork - http://www.petnetwork.com.au/cgi-bin/shopp...&cart_id=340667 - $223.30
  15. I have a Wahl 1 speed and it does a good job, has done a standard poodle a few times too. What ever clippers you get you will need to find someone who can sharpen them properly. I had one place sharpen my clippers and I couldn't even do 1 full trim of the poodle with them. I then tried a different place (someone Horseland uses) and the difference was incredible. By the way the prices through Petnetwork who advertise on this site seem reasonable, I have used them before and their service is great.
  16. I also have an easiyo yoghurt maker, makes yummy yoghurt and is cheap.
  17. What a terrible thing to happen. Hope the puppies all do well, a bit of her will live on in them.
  18. For show people - this trick is also a great way to lure you dog into the correct position to stack them rather than pulling/lifting/draging them to the right spot.
  19. Workingdog - you may need to go back a step, it is possible you have progressed too quickly if you have only been doing this since the trick was posted. When she is better then start just moving your hand away slowly and a short distance from the dog. With the waving she may just be trying out a behaviour that has earned a reward in the past to see if that will work this time.
  20. Hi, I taught Tilly this a while back by luring - with a clicker, one or 2 steps to begin with. We learnt it in class so didn't have the luxury of making a coridor. the lure was simply from the nose down toward and back toward the bottom of the dogs chest if that makes sense. She quickly got the idea and I didn't need to lure long, just waited until she took a step back, then she gradually took more steps back.
  21. Hi. Steve - Canine Freestyle is also known as dancing with dogs - the dogs learn some very precise movements, and can do some amazing stuff. Lia, there are some dogs that do agility that are not sociable with other dogs and as they compete in the ring by themselves it is not a problem, but these are dogs that although they are not sociable will not go out of their way to go off and pick a fight with other dogs. As long as your dog will stay with you rather than chasing other dogs I can't see it being a huge problem unless you go to a club to train where you are close to a lot of dogs in the class. I am glad to say that only after a couple of months training we entered a beginners jumping trial and came 4th - no course faults but plenty of time faults, until I did it I had no idea of how quickly you need to get around that course - no time to look around if you get lost either [ 26-07-2002, 07:28 PM: Message edited by: helen ]
  22. Our obedience club held 2 agility and jumpers trials yesterday and I stewarded in the afternoon and had a really enjoyable day, and perfect weather too, the judge, fellow stewards and all the competitors really enjoyed the day. I stewarded in the masters ring (the top level) and was lucky to see some of the really experienced dogs in action. There was a good percentage of border collies there, but I saw some great performances from some other breeds that really made it more enjoyable, and thought some here might be interested in some of the breeds there that really did well. My favorite for the day was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - there was no mistaking how much this dog enjoyed itself, it is just a joy to watch and came 3rd in Jumpers which is quite an achievement. Not leaving out the border collies there was 1 absolutely amazing dog that won the jumpers competition and completed the 40 second course in 24 seconds. There was a Japanese Spitz that was great, a bull terrier cross??, and english springer spaniel and poodles of every size and in the rarer gundog department there was a Large Munsterlander, a Flat Coat Retriever and and Irish Red & White Setter, all did really well. I got there just in time for the presentations for the morning trial, and best in trial for the morning was a very popular win - a little papillion. Having started agility a few weeks ago myself, I was glad so glad to see all these other breeds, as at the club a couple of weeks ago doing the agility lesson the dogs were all lined up, and mine was the odd one out - every other dog there was a border collie.
