  1. That trailer was horrifying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not even going to try and watch it. I feel sick This just makes me feel terrible, how am I supposed to help any of these poor animals? What can I really do?
  2. I know, it's just so unfortunate the people worthless beings that Pittys attract I agree. Something like this happens and think what this dog could have been like with a different owner. That kind of strength and drive shouldn't go to the wrong person. It creates disaster .
  3. Quick Update! Spoke to my Aunty, she is definitely shaken up but my other aunty is over at her house now giving her hugs and support. Both the boys are home and will be in a great deal of pain for the next couple of weeks. There is a palm size piece of skin ( ) missing out of Max’s hide, they have put in dissolving stitches that will be left in long past the usual 10 days because of the severity of the wound. The vet is the most worried about Zach though. What happened was the dog lunged for zachs neck and Zach dodged so the dog didn’t get the whole neck in her mouth (THANK GOD!!!) and instead got some muscle and a mouthful of skin. The vet is worried there will be muscle damage in Zach’s neck . Another photo of Zach "helping" my Aunty with her paperwork.
  4. Thank you everyone! I will ring her now and tell her about the vet giving a report and taking photos!
  5. My Aunty Shiela was walking her 2 dogs Max (a maltese cross) and Zack (a schnauzer) on lead, she lives in Hobart, Tasmania. A lady came walking from the opposite direction with a dog on lead that my aunty believes is a pitbull. (Her friend owns pitbulls so she does know what they look like, and is actually a fan of the breed) The pit bull broke her lead and attacked both my auntys dogs! First she attacked max, who's had a strip of flesh ripped off him, he then bolted and the pit bull then turned on Zach and latched onto him. The dogs owner then stated "Oh she will let go when shes tired" and just stood there, doing nothing!! There was a group of men nearby and they ran forwards to help ( for these awesome guys!), grabbed hold of the dogs and I'm assuming one of them caught Max as well. My Aunty was trying everything to get this dog to let go of Zach, she even stuck her thumb up its butt, but the dog didn't even budge. Thankfully the dog eventually loosened its grip, the men pulled them apart. One of them then drove my Aunty and her dogs to the hospital and the dogs are there now. Zack has puncture wounds and Max has bits of flesh missing :D Aunty Shiela was sent home by the vet while the dogs are undergoing surgery, and told to call the council immediately. They sent out a animal control officer to interview her. Unfortunately she doesn't know the lady's name, just the name and her idea of what breed of dog it is. But because of the womans statement of "she'll let go when she's tired" the officer believes that this is not the first attack that has happened. They're going to do everything they can to find this dog and owner. I feel so awful for my aunty, I hope both Max and Zach are going to be alright! Its such a terrifying experience for both them and my Aunty to go through. All because a woman walked her aggressive dog without a muzzle. I'm so angry at this women, I hope she decides to do the right thing and own up to what happened, however I doubt it. Healing vibes needed please for these 2 beautiful boys ! I will let you know when they leave the vet. Heres Max Heres Zach. (being very cheeky ) I just hope that some news group doesn't get hold of this and turn it into a story on "evil pitbulls" when really its just another stupid owner who doesn't deserve to own this dog.
  6. Definitely have to agree. I can just imagine my older boy Rover sneaking away to devour basket and contents. Yumm.... I might eat it, it would depend on if the dog was drooling or breathing on the food.
  7. My friend has 2 poodles, one of which is excessively ball obsessed. He will however, if given the opportunity, also try and chase down small running dogs that he sees as "prey" rather than dog. (When out, She always has him on lead though so this doesn't happen) Just wondering if there are any fun training games she could play? The woman is a mother with a young baby, so I'm thinking maybe something she can do around the house while the baby is there. Or when she has them on lead walking down the street. (Other than a session with a trainer and/or behaviorist, because that is already a known option)
  8. SHE CAME AGAIN. I can't believe she brought her dog back after what happened on Saturday. She brought her daughter along too. Within 2 minutes of arriving the dog (Who's name is actually Bella, and is a border collie x kelpie) had attacked another kelpie. Thankfully there was no one injured this time. She looked very shaken because her daughter almost got bitten pulling Bella off the kelpie she attackd, and I believe she actually listened to me when I talked to her. I told her the name of a trainer, got her phone number and texted it too her. Told her she needed to do something about this and that was that. Will see if she actually does, at least I have her name and number now if need be.
  9. Update! I have called Warringah Council and reported the incident. I also emailed them a full report of the incident along with some photos of the mark on my arm. Apparently I should expect a response within 10 days. They have my number and I asked them to call me if there was any news.
  10. When I say a frustrated working breed. I mean a breed who is made for work, such as this kelpie cross. With no outlet for anything. Definition of Frustration is "a feeling of dissatisfaction, often accompanied by anxiety or depression, resulting from unfulfilled needs or unresolved problems." I believe that dogs, especially the highly active breeds such as this kelpie cross, need a job to do.
  11. I agree with this. I don't know whether it would stop me reporting it but you do have to take some personal responsibility for getting involved in a dog fight. It doesn't mean the dog is human aggressive, more that you got in the way. Sounds like the owner needs a kick up the ass though. Yeah, I agree. Won't stop me reporting though. I don't understand why you were letting the dog play with Jess if you knew that she might escalate her behaviour? Get some arnica for that bruise and start putting it on now and hopefully you might be able to reduce some of the swelling and pain If you read the first post, they weren't playing. Rocky was playing fetch and Jess attacked him. Fantastic coloured bruise! I'll have to take another photo. Feeling much better though. Thank you for asking!
  12. Yeah she did not bite me, she lunged but I moved so I'm assuming her teeth grazed and did not sink in. I do think she was going for me though, When I stopped Rosie, she jumped for the nearest target. I just happened to be it. Wrong place wrong time. Was certainly not fun but I am ok, thanks for the concern :D. If the owner had been apologetic and taken responsibility I wouldn't have had a problem. Instead she was quite rude, even to the point of actually The way she acted is the problem. A "full on attack" is when a dog goes in, intent on damaging the other dog. Its when they're intent on creating a fight. example of a herding breed wanting a bit of a rumble. Do you really think the a dog will fight just cause it wants "a bit of a rumble"? I think that dog fights are caused for a variety of reasons, but wanting "a bit of a rumble" isn't one of them. A bit of a rumble for me is rough play. Not a fight. but that of course is just my opinion My idea of whats happened in this case, is a frustrated working breed with no real outlet . If she is continuously brought to the park I'm certain that her behaviour will only get worse.
  13. I will be going to the doctor tomorrow, and will take photos. Will contact Warringah council on Monday to tell them ba Its not the fact that the dog bit me that I makes me want to report this. I agree that if you jump into a dog fight, theres a chance you will get bitten. Its never the dogs fault either, its the owners. The fact that the owner did nothing about it is what really bothers me. She didn't even attempt to apologise or control her dog at all. Completely ignoring something that has happened right in front of her. The dog has done this numerous times, to other dogs that where behaving well on lead. If I did intervene in a fight, its the owners responsibility to pay for any damages that her dog caused. Whether that be to me or another dog. She did the opposite, was rude, and then left.
  14. Who do I report it to? I don't know her name, I just know her dogs name and what kind of dog it is. Yeah it broke the skin, it massively bruised around the area. I'm sure it will turn into a spectacular colour tomorrow. I'm not sure about tetanus.. I'll have to ask my mum.
  15. So I was at the dog park, (please don't make this an anti dog park thread as thats not the point here :D) A kelpie cross named Jess, was stalking(herding?) my friends dog Rocky, who I think is a kelpiex also(the owner is a DOLer :D). Now Rocky was completely ignoring her and playing with his ball. When Jess went from stalking to nipping, and then it turned into a full on attack. Rocky was yelping and trying to defend himself, when Rosie, his packmate, (who is a really lovely dobermanx) jumped into the fray to defend her pack mate. At this point Rocky ran off and away from the situation. I ran forward to stop it. Grabbing Rosie who immediately stopped and went still, at this point Jess lunged at me and though I dodged out of the way she still caught my arm, I had a jumper on though so she didn't manage to do much damage. I'm guessing that If I hadn't has a jumper on, I would need stitches. When I then yelled at Jess, she backed off and ran away. The owner of Jess the kelpie, was leaning against the fence this entire time, basically completely ignoring what her dog was doing. She eventually strolled over and half heartedly called Jess. Jess ignored her and came back to again attack Rocky, who's owner was trying to put him on lead. She already had Rosie on lead at this point. I jumped forward and yelled at Jess, who backed off immediately and ran away again. I then confronted Jess's owner. Very politely. I told her that she needed to deal with her dogs issues because I know this is not the first situation shes caused, showed her the mark on my arm. Told her that this was no acceptable, that she needed to seek out professional help or not come back to the dog park. She basically denied everything, never apologized, said it was my own fault for getting in the way of the dog fight (which is paritally true), and that theres nothing wrong with her dog, shes not aggressive and it was obviously the other dogs fault. I said I've seen her cause fights, including attacking my friends poodle on a separate occasion. The poodle was on lead at the time and was chewing on his ball. The owner continued to deny it, said she didn't need any trainers help and there was no issue with her dog. I told her how much vet bills where going to cost when her dog puts holes in another dog or person, or a dog puts holes in her. Told her I'm sorry, but if I saw the dog cause any kind of situation again I would have to report it, she said "Go ahead, just try it" and stormed off. I let it go at this point to go wash my arm. A couple of minutes passed, when I heard Rocks owner yell, and saw that Jess was about to cause another fight. I ran in again but the situation was over before I got there. At this point Jess's owner approached Rocky's owner, and started having a go at her, saying that she comes to the dog park to have a nice time and this wasn't her fault. That people shouldn't be so rude. Her dog was not causing any problems. I pulled up my sleeve, said "Hey lady, see this? Thats from your dog, how is that Not a problem!?" She stormed off again and finally left the park. Never once saw her put a lead on Jess either. I'm trying to decide whether or not to report her, and if I want to report her how to do so? I don't know her name or anything. I've been told that this dog has attacked numerous dogs. Bit shaken up by the whole situation really , and my arm hurts a fair bit too. Edit to add: The dog park is in Frenchs forest, its the Frenchs Forest Showground. The dog is a kelpie x (potentially border collie), with black and white markings. Her name is Jess. The owner has another dog as well, a small terrier cross with tan coloured long wirey hair. If anyone goes to this park and comes across these dogs and knows the name of the lady, please PM me.
  16. No real advice from me except to again suggest that you might want to get in a trainer, someone on DOL will no doubt have a recommendation. This way you can set up a plan of action from the beginning, and work towards setting this little girl up to be rehomed. Or to become a happier healthier dog, living in a state of panic or fear can't be pleasant You are so awesome for taking her on !!!!! And I hope her previous owner gets whats coming to her the way some people treats animals astounds me.
  17. What do you think the BSL is Abigail? Part of the BSL states "The dog must live a secure enclosure when at home, and the owner must post "Warning: Dangerous Dog" signs on their property." and thats is exactly what you're suggesting should happen. (Personally I would suggest that you pull your head out from where ever you've stuck it and maybe take the time to actually read up on these breeds that you apparently "love" since you obviously know nothing about them.)
  18. Isn't there someway that they can obtain legal guardianship over the child? Take away her mothers rights until she grows up a bit.
  19. This is the link to the original current affair story. http://video.au.msn.com/watch/video/beware...he-dogs/xc0wan7 (Edit to add, Just finished watching. And that stupid part at the end about how pitbulls are bad news cause they can kill? So can any dog you moron. Deed not the Breed. Sheesh.)
  20. I have to agree. The damage that even a 7 week old staffy puppy could do to a young child? Those little teeth can be very sharp.
  21. My new pup Riddick will leap on top and around Rover making these really "ferocious" noises while Rover just lies on his back, flailing his open mouth around. Its hilarious.
