Need To Exercise My Puppy!
lovemesideways replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Have to lay on my left side. I don't have the money to hire someone unfortunately. But might have a friend who could come around and help me out with running him around the backyard. Thats a idea :D! -
Need To Exercise My Puppy!

:D Thanks Dedicated and also don't want to deal with a fidgety labrador puppy tonight! Oo good ideas! Thanks -
Ideas anyone? Pretty please! My 5 month old black Labrador puppy Riddick needs to get some exercise this afternoon, but I've hurt my back and I'm confined to a laying down position. Not supposed to walk or move around. I can probably get away with sitting for a little while (but don't tell my physio :D) Mums taking out our other dog Rover (who is really her dog) to the dog park, which is fine, but I don't trust her to pay attention to Riddick (she gets very distracted and chats to people. Doesn't pay attention to dog.) So far I've got throwing squeaky toys around. But Riddick will get bored with just fetching toys back and forth. Maybe I could do some obedience work. Clicker training that doesn't require me to move around?

Pup And Cat Fighting For Dominance....
lovemesideways replied to Bluefairy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm in agreeance here. I'm feeling sorry for the cat and think that the pup needs some stronger ground rules - and a strong leader to put them in place. I agree with this too. Poor cat sounds stressed! In my house, that cat knows he is king of both the dogs, he can stroll past them or clean them and he will be safe and left alone. This came about by us telling the dogs in no uncertain terms that the cat was off limits! At the same time, we also corrected the cat if he made any kind of unnecessary aggression towards the dogs!! Kitty claws can do a lot of damage to a puppy. I wouldn't be letting them play unless you can control the situation. -

I think the white dog was a Dogo Aregentina? Love this video !! -
From what I have seen, heard and experienced. The APBT is a breed with a huge amount of drive. I think of their drive the same way I think of any working line breed. Can you imagine a working line German Shepherd in the hands of some Joe Average who had never owned a dog and just thought they looked "cool"?? I see disaster! In fact, I have seen disaster. And yet, the APBT or some cross thereof is owned by every idiot out there who has no idea what to do with them! I voted Not Sure. Because I don't know enough about the BSL.

Thanks again everyone for the well wishes! Max and Zack are doing well. They're very unhappy boys but looking good so far. They're on some heavy pain medication so just sleeping the days away for now. I will mention to her about informing the police, though I don't know if the police would do anything because don't they refer that kind of stuff onto animal control? Any advice at all is appreciated ! Because one the main reasons to Mention it to the paper is the hope that someone will recognise the description of the dog or/and the women, and turn in their name. Yes my aunty "believes" it is a pitbull. Since she had a fair amount of time to look at the dog while trying to pull it off her beloved pet. Like I said, "(Her friend owns pitbulls so she does know what they look like, and is actually a fan of the breed)"

A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
lovemesideways replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
Rover is my boy on the left, and Milly is the lab on the right. They ran around for about 5 seconds and then lay down chewing on eachother for the next half hour We had just arrived with Rover too. You would think he had been running for hours -

  Gotta love how you ignored every other post, and chose to reply to that one. "The Point" is that labradors aren't all hyper and bouncy. My dog Rover, who goes to the childrens hospital every week to visit sick children, certainly isn't. I can post hundred of photos of Labradors playing with dogs of all sizes, but not everyone has that much bandwidth and frankly I think it would be pointless. -

Just thought I would attach a photo of one of my labrador and his friend at a park. Hyper and overly bouncy aye? -
A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
lovemesideways replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is a park near where I live. Both my labrador's are from guide dog lines. We frequent the park. There is a assistance dog that comes and has "off lead" time named Raynar. There is a puppy raiser who brings her dog Macey. There is a failed guide dog named Parish. Another dog from guide dog lines name Radar. All are amazing dogs. All at a dog park. The Labrador Retriever is a fantastic breed that has the misfortune a lot of the time of being owned by people who don't know how to train them. -

I have nothing much to add about the original topic. However, in regards to Labradors I just thought I would add these.... Thank dog for Labradors -
Cattle prods, less risk of getting bitten yourself! It's the complacent attitude that is far worse than the actual attack, yes the attack is terrible but bad things happen (the lead broke)...problem is people make it worse, standing there and saying "He'll let go when he tires" is crazy. I'll stop kicking your dog in the head when I get tired!!!!!. And not offering any assistance is criminal. Just scrolled back and saw the photos. Those poor dogs are lucky to be alive, particularly the Schnauzer whose jugular was very close to the bite by the looks of things. Exactly right, if he hadn't managed to twist out of the way of the majority of the bite, I'm certain he would be dead. Nothing yet about the identity of the owner.

Any news on Gypsy?

Update! So Max and Zack had a checkup today. The vet was very surprised that Max is putting any weight at all on his leg, so that is a good sign! He's still worried about Zacks neck, the muscles could be damaged. His neck was swollen so they're going to keep watching it. Poor boys. They're on pain medication. The area this happened in was in North Hobart, and the beginning of the Joggers Loop. The botanical garden side.

This whole video just makes me so angry ;) ! Humanity is the worst plague the Earth has ever had to suffer. What the hell can I do about it? I don't have money to donate, and even if I did, how do I know that this money is actually helping anyone? Is it going to pay someones salary or is it actually helping? So I go vegan, that saves 100 animals a year. Thats it though!! There are still millions suffering these disgusting practices all around the world. The farms will keep farming, the fishers keep fishing. The government do nothing because animals are considered lower class than people. My mum said, what about the children that are abused in the foster care system, or even in their own homes? The wifes that get beaten by husbands and get no justice? Half the world goes hungry, how can you expect people to care about animals when they don't even care about their own kind. I just feel so incredibly helpless. What the hell can I do!!!!!!!!!!?????????

I wonder if they've ever actually done it.... :D

Guide dogs have their own lines that they take dogs from. My 2 boys are both from guide dog lines. :D 6 out of 7 puppies in Rovers litter went to guide dogs, 3 made it through :D . Riddicks litter was supposed to go to guide dogs but the bitch got sick while pregnant so the puppies had to be kept longer. Anne Murray is the main lady in NSW that I know of that provides dogs for Guide Dogs. She also has various breeders who she either knows or who have dogs from her that they are now breeding that are also used for guide dogs . They are health tested extensively, as any ethical breeder does . The difference in temperament that I've noticed is that goldys seem to be softer. Where as Labradors are more the Boof Heads of the dog world :D Theres a exception to every rule though

Just noting, this wasn't at a park, this was on a street. Just walking down the street, all dogs on lead. I will ask my aunty what street and suburb and post it tomorrow. Maybe even a description and name of the dog. Not going on at all, shows how much you care about dogs ! I'm not sure about getting the story published in the paper, my Aunty is going off what the animal control officers are telling her to do for now. I would be worried if the story was given to the paper that it could possibly change from being a "Bad Owner" story, to a "all pit bulls are evil" story. I'm sure my Aunty would not want this either, I will pass the idea along to her though. If written correctly it could be a very good story, a way of building awareness. (Would they be able to post images like that in the local paper?)
