The ANKC has no say at all in who in the general population can own an entire dog or bitch if that is what you mean, so it couldn't be a recommendation going to the ANKC as such. But you may be thinking of some of the proposed legislation around. That legislation doesn't give ANKC reg breeders any special standing, it's a local govt breeders permit that would be needed. It's intent is to cut down on byb, and maybe on all breeding, I guess how it was enforced would be the key. If people are prepared to sell pups at 6 weeks of age to avoid getting a microchip, I guess they'd find away around other legislation as well.

Yes, totally agree with this. I haven't had time yet but plan to do just that. I am not a breeder either, but there are a number of very significant terms in the bill that don't seem to be defined adequately, for example appropriate number of dogs, genetically sound, aggressive etc; a lack of standards of proof; and some ideas that just don't add up to achieve the intended final ends. Summer reading I could do without, but I have a feeling that it's too significant not to pay attention to the detail.

Breeders in the surrounding areas of the broader Canberra region should probably have a good look at this and think about making a submission too. I am not sure from this that they will be able to legally advertise puppies in the ACT? Which might be an issue for some.

All ACT breeders should be looking at this draft and considering making their own submissions, not just relying on the ACTCA. The number of views rec'd matters in these processes.Especially in such a small jurisdiction as ours.

Why don't you also report it to the Plaza management if the shop stunk. Tell them the stench coming from the pet shop is putting you off shopping at the centre. They may apply some pressure to keep it cleaner at least. efs

There were quite a few heavily marked tris being shown in Australia in the 80s and 90s, often from Zomahli (UK) lines, or from the import Baccaret Summer Storm. There are several in the ring currently around the country, but mostly with more white on them than Alyosha's pics. efs

that's my favourite so far, LOL. I was asked if my dogs' ears were cut off before I got them or if I had it done myself - in a tone of barely suppressed rage. I was gobsmacked and had to ask what they meant, which only made them angrier. This person had seen my dogs before and had apparently been shocked and seething ever since about how cruel it was that they had no ears Needless to say it wasn't a pure bred dog person who asked. Most pure bred dog people would not mistake breed-correct, small, high-set, rose ears for an attack with scissors. I found out later that they had told other people we both knew that I cut my dogs' ears off too - but no-one believed them. Loonies!

They may well with specific breeds. It wasn't so at the all breeds show or the specialties that I attended. But I can well imagine that there are a small number of the native breeds where judges find it safer to approach it differently and stay hands off. I would if I was the judge, LOL. I don't know what disciplinary action is being taken in this case, but it will be interesting to track it.
