Your major issue is that until you actually choose the property you cant answer the question.

Remember they can change the goal posts at anytime - so don't take anyone else's word and when you get the info from council - get it in writing.

Which State Do You Rate The Most Dog Friendly?
Steve replied to ncarter's topic in General Dog Discussion
last time I looked it was $40 for ANKC members, MDBA members and AAPDB Members or for a desexed dog - some pensioner discounts too. Others its $140 . Many breeders register the dogs under their memberships and then the dogs go home with no rego expenses for the rest of their lives even though they are entire and no longer live with the person who had the exemptions. No transfer fees or increase in rego. -

I live in the NT and Palmerston is very strict about how many dogs you are allowed to keep. I was told to not even bother applying for a permit to keep more than 2 dogs because it wouldn't be approved. It must depend on who you're mates with as I've been told by a couple of people that they got their permit with no problems and no 'exceptional circumstances' having to be given but they are mates with someone on the council or a ranger This is the problem everywhere - its not the state laws on dog ownership but the planning laws in each shire which is really open to corruption. -

There isnt anything in queensland state law which which is too bad - but each shire in queensland has different planning rules and again therein lies the problem. -
Well at the very least now he has proven himself to be an idiot he should be banned from getting another dog until he can show he is capable of reasonable behaviour and thinking where dogs are concerned. If thats ever likely.

Sounds like a nomination to me. www.mdbaawards,net.au We have a new category too - Best Dog Friendly Local council too. -
Yep that's what I got too. The interview with him was shocking - no remorse and a never mind so what attitude. Moron.

It appears the owner asked for them to be put down so if that's the case there is no option for re homing etc But this guy shot dogs in a public place when they were not suffering. He is an idiot and he wants to feel bloody lucky it wasn't me or worse me with my kids which were at the tip when he did it. The whole "now we will do it another way " is incredible and makes one wonder do we have to wait for this type of thing to go on everywhere before a reasonable policy is put in place for councils to deal with this type of thing? Its no wonder people are yelling for legislation to cover it all.

Where the whole thing gets really rotten in all states is when it cuts over planning rather than companion animals. So state law can say you dont need to have a limit on numbers but as soon as you want to breed them or rescue them planning comes screaming in and you need permits to run a business from home even if its not a business - also rather a big issue in Victoria . Issue is no one can tell you what these requirements are and they will tell you they are taken on a case by case basis but its really open to corruption and literally one person in one street could have different requirements on them than their neighbours. In some shires in NSW you cant have more than 2 not because that is restricted via the companion animals act but due to the extra PLANNING requirements. More than 2 dogs need to be housed at least 15 metres from a dwelling or a place used to prepare food etc if planning say so. We had one member who had 4 dogs - planning said they had to house them 15 metres from their back door - so they built a dog pen on the back fence - neighbour who was the one moaning about 4 dogs in the first place built a bar be que on their side fence which meant they were within 15 metres of a place used to prepare food - it got very messy . You cant just make a phone call before you move in to see what the requirements are if you want to breed a dog - companion animals are a separate department so what answer you get there might see you in the poo later on when planning comes in. Mandatory codes for breeding dogs doesnt cover such things as how far the dogs need to be kept from the boundary etc and that changes depending on whether they like you or not. Victoria says if you have less than 10 fertile dogs and you are Vicdogs you dont need a domestic animal licence BUT you need planning approval and without that planning approval if you breed you are considered an illegal puppy farm whether you breed often or for profit or not. If you own more than 2 regardless of whether you are Vicdogs or not you need planning approval to live with them. Thats just the tip of it all. Dont assume companion animals regs in any state is all you have to take into account. -

Victoria allows commercial breeders to flourish as its all over regulated and most of it is geared to giving breeders more advantage if they are bigger rather than smaller. Victoria also has stupid laws re dog ownerships , dangerous dog legislation etc too in my opinion. You also have a situation in 2 states where ANKC get exemptions - which of course is good for ANKC members but as you can be a member of the ANKC without ever even owning a purebred dog, and whilst you are breeding cross bred mutts for profit its a bit of a joke which is worse - much worse in Victoria due to the craziness of their legislation. In Queensland you have a situation where ANKC get exemptions in SOME shires not others as its not legislated at state level. Only one state has any kind of legislation in place to come close to regulating rescue - this will change in the next 18 months or so with pushes from the AVA and bigger Rescue groups to do so. For me Victoria is dreadful and I would hate to see what goes on there spread as they seem to want it to. -

Definitely NSW on the Eastern side though after hearing Peter Higgins from Dogs NSW this morning who was on Sunrise and saying Victoria is a good model and he wants the whole country running under that you have to ask how long we can hold out. There is a big push on from the RSPCA and AWL for NSW laws to change and they want national dog laws - if Higgins is going that way too ????????? S.A. isnt too bad , NT virtually non existent - WA a bit rocky. -
If they own the Stud dog they have breached the code of ethics as they have agreed not to use THEIR REGISTERED dogs to DELIBERATELY mate it with a dog of another breed. If they own it and it can be proven that its a deliberate mating then one would hope they at least get a kick for it.

mixeduppup came here to call her a bogan she didnt call her a bogan to her face - just venting - hardly seems something she needs to be caned over.
-
quoted from their advert. Father of the pups is a black and tan cavalier...location Gawler S.A. Yep but that doesn't mean they own the stud dog.
-
Is the stud dog registered to them with SACA? If it is then they cant deliberately breed a registered dog they own with a dog of a different breed .If it is registered in someone else's name they can do what ever they want. There is nothing stopping any one who is with the ANKC breeding cross bred dogs unless they use their own SACA registered dogs.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission - Commonwealth statutory authority that administers the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (formerly the Trade Practices Act 1974). It has a bunch of different hats and regulates competition in the market, M&A etc but in the context greytmate is talking about it serves as the consumer protection watchdog: http://www.accc.gov....l/itemId/815215 I've never met anyone who went to the ACCC regarding a breeder or a dog rescue so would be interested to hear about anyone who has. Anyone who gets together and colludes to set a price on a product is at risk of being in the poo with the ACCC - including if they are selling rescue or any other dog. Setting the price is up to each individual based on what price they feel is reasonable for them to attain for that product. Its a supply and demand issue - some dogs will sell easily others wont. Those that do are in higher demand and less supply so you can ask more for them and that helps to cover the ones that cost a fortune stay around longer and are harder to re home. Being in rescue primarily for the dogs doesn't mean you cant or shouldn't make a profit. Making a profit which is able to be re invested into what you are doing allows you to work more effectively and maybe even compensate someone for their time enabling them to work longer, and more efficiently. If you don't, sooner or later it all falls down because people cant keep on and on giving their time which prevents them from working at other things to feed their families, copping the whole emotional beating and sustaining what they do for ever . Its why people who work their hearts out in rescue often cant stay there as long as they intended and burn out more - Which means all of the experience, skills and wisdom they have learned is lost as they move on. While ever we nurture a culture which sees a person working in rescue is better at it if they are poverty stricken we will never get the potential positive results we could see.

Fair enough I reckon.

Who owns the stud dog? Are they pedigreed or registered purebred? Are they registered breeders if so Who are they registered with? There is a kennel in NSW which owns a registered stud dog but they are not Dogs NSW members and Dogs NSW members can mate their girls to it and the owner signs a service certificate and the puppies can be registered or they pay a lesser fee and there is no service certificate provided ad the puppies are not registered but a pedigree can be written. Then they also use the same dog for heaps of cross bred litters. Does the owner of the stud dog have to be a Dogs NSW member ? I thought they did but after asking questions a couple of weeks ago it appears only the owner of the bitch needs to be and they can use a registered dog which is not owned by a member. Nothing stopping a dog being owned by one person one day and another the next anyway. Nothing preventing someone who is a dogs NSW member breeding both cross bred and purebred or even only cross bred either. In Victoria I know several people who are only ever breeding non registered puppies and they are Vic Dogs members in order to get the council exemptions. You don't have to even own a purebred let alone a registered purebred to be a member.

thanks guys - this one is sorted.

The RSPCA are in because someone complained to them but Ill be surprised if he is pinged with any cruelty charges etc and it will all just blow over. I don't think shooting in a public place is necessarily the only concern but it is one thing you could be pretty sure to make him skirm over because its doubtful they will get him on anything else.
