Look I live in the bush and its common procedure to put an animal which is suffering out of its misery with a bullet .If the person holding the gun is skilled its a quick and pain free solution. But to do what has been reported here where he took them to a public place during normal operating hours is way out of line and just shooting the gun near an area where there were members of the public is incredible let alone shooting in view of people to kill animals. He's an idiot and should be charged wit discharging a firearm in a public place and anyone approving what he did needs a blood nose.

http://www.glouceste...ed/2612641.aspx THE RSPCA has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the euthanising of dogs by council staff at the Gloucester landfill last week. Council confirmed that on Wednesday and Thursday last week several dogs were taken to the tip where they were shot and then disposed of on the tip face. The Advocate was made aware of the incident after a resident complained to the paper. Stratford resident Keith Whittall said he was at the tip between 12.20pm and 2pm last Wednesday when the council ranger arrived at the facility with the dogs on the back of his vehicle. "He said he was taking the dogs down the back to shoot them," he said. "He went down behind the rubbish pile and I heard the shots go off from where I was standing at the shed. "Then he threw the carcasses into the general waste." Mr Whittall said it was a "cruel and inhumane" way to dispose of the animals and said he was particularly upset that the incident had occurred during regular tip operating hours. "I never want to see something like that happen again," he said. "It made me feel physically sick. After I left the tip I went and got my daughter and took some pictures. "There were 11 dogs in total, five of them were pups." Director of Planning and Environment Graham Gardner said council had been responding to a request from a local resident who had asked that the dogs be disposed of. Mr Gardner said the RSPCA had contacted council. "On Friday afternoon council was visited by an inspector from the RSPCA who came to interview (the council ranger)," Mr Gardner said. "The background circumstances to this incident are complex but there will likely be a focus on the action of euthanising and disposal of the dogs. "We will review the details of this incident and clarify or adjust any operational procedures as necessary arising from this incident."

We have a Dogz person who is ill and needs a foster carer for 2 medium sized dogs for 2- 4 weeks. Dogs are well behaved, house trained, desexed and dog and human friendly. If anyone is able to help out and take one or two of these guys for us for a couple of weeks that would take a real load off for this person. Sunshine coast area would be good. Julie

Ankc No Longer Recognising Flyball Titles
Steve replied to Jumabaar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Adding the titles to a pedigree ensures that everyone who is coming behind and considering a dog for breeding into the future can see the qualification and take that into account when deciding on which dog to use. Fact is you can go out and get any qualification you want but only those which the ANKC recognise will be added to the pedigree system At the moment they are not recogising these ones so the only way you can do anything about that is to play by their rules and do as they say - because they wont change the rules just for you. Or you can use another registry to enable others who want to access the info into the future to add the qualifications which doesn't have the same criteria for the info to be added. -
They must have been able to prove the parent which has been stated as the sire isn't in order for them to be able to take any action at all and as far as I know if you have the DNA of the supposed sire you can say whether he is or is not the father regardless of breed or species.

As long as the incorrect details are taken out then the pedigree isn't corrupted as it tells the story required for people to be able to make decisions when breeding. The UKKC has opened stud books for all breeds which in effect is about what has happened here. Within 4 or 5 generations it wont show up and it will be back to business as usual. Im not saying I agree but based on the position they have been placed in - especially as the UK has opened the stud books and there is pressure on for them to open stud books for all breeds I can see why they have decided to go this way. Basically they allowed the stud book to be opened for that time period. Preferable to do this than allowing the info to remain if it was known to be incorrect.

If this is addressed under the breeding of cats and dogs regs it would be a bloody disgrace and another example of how those who have no knowledge of breeding are prepared to completely over look the science of the species and interfere in something that they have no right to be involved in.

They get the immunity from Mum via the placenta and the first few days of feeding - they are not more immune if they feed longer and most puppies are weaned prior to 8 weeks anyway. Research into socialization points to them fitting into a new human environment between 7 and 8 weeks before the fear period cuts in as they learn what they need to know about how to be dogs prior to 7 weeks from their Mum's

Ive got a 14 year old champ here who still does a loverly job when he is called upon.

Word is new codes about to come in especially in Victoria will lower the age to 7 weeks. Fact is decades ago puppies went home at 6 weeks and everyone was happy with that but vaccine protocols came in which said we had to keep em until the vax cut in - at 8 weeks assuming they are done at 6 weeks. New vaccines only need 3 days . There is lots of research to suggest they are better off in their new homes at 7 weeks.

About 35 years ago we had a dog in our neighbourhood which got out and pinched milk and cream from the neighbours - back then we used to have milk products delivered to doorsteps - simple cure the neighbours gave the owners one chance to fix it - they didn't so they shot the dog. Right up front about it - returned the body to the owners and the owners knew without a a doubt it was their fault.

Should contact Camden shire council and ask why the owner isn't being fined or at least counselled about his dog wandering Just because its a lab doesn't make it O.K. and I'm sure the person losing the bread wont think so either.

Why thank you Ams. Its really nice to get a thank you, I'm glad it will help.

You're beautiful - better get fattened up a bit and start saving your coins to be able to make it to Canberra so we can tell you what we think of you personally.

Just a quick update. The cash donations have made a huge impact on this girl and has allowed her to cover a couple of things as well as being able to get some desperately needed groceries - it has taken an enormous amount of pressure off for her. She has also received the dog food donations which will keep her going for several weeks and this has meant a lot too as the dogs are the reason she hangs in and pushes to get better. I hope now she has another reason - knowing so many people cared enough to go out of their way to make life a little easier for her - even though she feels she isn't worthy. To everyone who offered kind words, gifts, donations and best wishes to this girl on her behalf I would like to say Thank you- especially to the kind person who bought this to our attention. Dogzonline rocks - Thank you. I will stay in contact with her and keep you posted. Julie

Thank you Will give you a yell if we need you Julie
-
I can give you her account.
-
Thank you. Ill check on her later today to see how she is going and if she needs anything in particular.
-
For a WSS??! Damn that'd be impressive. Have you a got a photo to show me what you mean?
-
Actually this has given me an idea - Maybe if I speak with Pet stock and see if they will allow us to pay money onto a credit for her to go shopping with - this sort of thing would be ideal for future for any others who need help too if we access stores in their area -might even score a donation if we give a bit of a plug though in this case I have to be honest and say that probably all she needs for her dogs is food and if those who have said they will provide some do so she is probably good to go for several weeks and for one to have a vaccination which is overdue but she needs some basics for herself and she certainly needs to know people care about her.
-
Your choice I can give you her bank details or Pacers.
-
Hold that thought we may need you yet.
-
O.K. Its only 2 small dogs so I reckon we have enough dog food for now . If we need more later Ill come back and let you know. Your response has been awesome and you have really made a huge impact on someone who really did need to know others care. Thank you. To the person who alerted me to this and made the cash donation to get this started - you know who you are I hope you know what your actions have done to make someone feel pretty special. Thank you.
