  1. Hey Ptolomy how do you teach your dog to shuffle over like that. I gave it a try today but Banjo's front end was coming over, not all of him . Tiggy try leaving Banjo in a sit at heel and then you do a 1/4 turn turning towards him and then ask him to line up. He then really has to move his back end to get into position.
  2. Terranik your kids are doing really really well and I really hope you get Jedi's allergy problems sorted. Having an allergy kid myself I know what you are going through. I am now 3 years into the densensitization program and we are doing OK - although I have just discovered another food that she is allergic to and I am now trying to sort out her red chest and belly. You need to slow your left about turns down and perhaps put in an extra step as you wizz around and lose them. I would be looking at playing the hansel and gretel game where you reward them for finding heel and throw the food to force them out of heel and then C/T once they find heel again. With Ahsoka - in the recall when you left the dog - you will notice that the dog was very distracted and kept looking from side to side. I have this issue with Beans and have started going back and rewarding more often - clicking and throwing food so she is now more focused on me when I leave her. Keep up the great work.
  3. This is really common with small dogs. I also noticed from my videos that when I reward Cider sometimes the food is too high and she has to lift her front feet off to the ground to get it - hence I am creating more bad habits
  4. It sounds like you have a handle on what needs work anyway Shell - but happy to see if we can pick anything else out when I get home...... It will be interesting to see what everybody else thinks
  5. Wow I go training, come home and there are a zillion new videos to watch. I will make sure I buy some BBQ chips and a bottle of wine on the way home from work tonight and I should settle in for the night - looking forward to it - and keep them coming (the videos not the chips and wine) :D
  6. Thanks Ness Next week its Sexy Lexi's turn Her box and seekback are something else
  7. LOL send them over as a Xmas present - very much appreciated I too prefer the box ones - the bits of food that get stuck are always an added bonus ;)
  8. Thanks Huski Is he really eight years old?? I hope Daisy is that frisky at eight! ;) LOL - now Caffy if we had only taken the camcorder to the vets the other night - it might give a whole new meaning to the word frisky Caffy deserves a gold star for handling of Alex - and I still say on his night nothing will beat him
  9. Gees you wouldn't know that she had a cruitiate problem
  10. Is anybody going to take up the City Farmers offer where this weekend if you buy a bag of "quality" dog food they will give you another bag free?
  11. Best advice I can give ........ Buy 5 clickers at a time because you put them down and can never find them again, they go through the washing machine, you leave them at training, they fall out of your pocket...... :D
  12. I have added three more clips to youtube - this time its Baby Beans UD Training last night - so seekback, box and signals. Sorry I am at work - so can't post any links - but if you do a search on antollergee - I am sure you will find it. I guess the $6 000 000 question is......do you think she is ready to pass a UD Trial on this sort of effort
  13. - with good reason Tiggy. Rory can tell you that boy Border Collies can eat their way out of soft crates - he can just demolish the mesh on the door and/or windows - but only when mum is doing agility with her other dog . I have 2 metal crates set up in the car, so if I can park close enough and the weather is OK, dogs can stay there. Otherwise I take soft crates - and if it's for agility, just get Rory's collapsible wire crate out of the car to put in the set up. Or use the show trolley. (Still need a babysitter for when I'm actually running Kirra, so he doesn't hurt his teeth :D - will stress even if the crate is covered right up.) BTW, I got my bigger metal collapsible - 2 doors - from Deals Direct - good service. What are you planning on doing for the agility Nationals?, although I guess you will be able to park close to where you will be running and keep Rory in the car?
  14. Tiggy - you go and do what most of us do - and that is buy a purpose built car just to take to trials
  15. Tiggy I hope that you are bringing them both to the Mock trial tonight
  16. From what I have seen Southern River Agility Training on a Thursday night are people who are already trialling - they get the gear out, set up some sequences and run them over and over. There is nobody instructing. Monday night is held on the bottom oval and looks to be beginner level, with a club member instructing.
  17. PSST - Leopuppy - its possible bedazzled and I might be heading back to Victoria later in the year - maybe we could arrange a training session but hopefully you will have your box problems well and truely sussed by then.
  18. Huski - if it were one of mine that had the problem heeling around the outside of the cone - I would begin my rewarding every step around that cone - I would also break it down and only practice around the one cone. I would also make sure what I was looking at the cone and not at my dog as this turns your shoulders and helps pull the dog around. Anybody else have any suggetions?
  19. Cider is different to my other kids - she is way more mature and is able to put things together at a much younger age. I also have 5 dogs under my belt and hope that I am better at it. There is still a truck load of work to be done and I have to say not wanting to start any debates that Cider was not in drive or in my language was not giving me the pushy heelwork that I know that she can give me in the driveway, however, as with my other kids they can still maintain heel position without driving. Everybody's videos are all relative to where they are at. Huski you should post your latest video as this is your first potential trialling dog and she/you have done very well. If I can inspire you to aim high by watching Cider then I am tickled pink. I would expect that by the time you have had 4 beagles then if you were not in a mental institution (BIg joke you are all supposed to laugh) then you would be a much better trainer and would be achieving things with your kids at a much earlier age because you are not going through the same learning phase as they are. You are in the same position that I was 11 years ago when I began trialling my first dog Lara. The one advantage that I had was that Lara had been a judge in a past life - she taught me everything I know now, saved my bacon on many occasions and is the reason I got into trialling. How did I teach her the dumbbell - I threw it, told her to get it, she raced out picked it up, brought it back, presented beautifully, end of story - Now if only all dogs were that easy!
  20. LOL - well it was nearly 2 from the same litter, a boy and a girl, because I couldn't decide The girl had confidence issues which was why I was unsure. To cut a long story short - Lexi developed an auto-immune condition which meant I wouldn't breed from her which left me without a breeding girl. Little Miss nameless arrived, a week later I decided to call her Cider and 7 months down the track this is her. She is just a little bit speecial
  21. Be consistent so if you are training and she sniffs don't let her get away with it one time and then give her a time out next time. As for your distance control problem - its a common one - you are going to have to increase the distance a little bit at a time and go back to rewarding it heavily. Putting the reward behind her can help with the movment forward but it can also blow their minds knowing that there is a treat there
  22. Oh, I don't reckon...Classic isn't too far away LOL Yep Western Classic 2014
  23. I have uploaded a couple of really short clips from tonight. I took Cider out of her comfort zone (the driveway) to K9 and asked Bedazzled to video a couple of things - eg heeling, left turns, right turns, presents and line ups, so I can see where we are at. We have a LONG way to go - but she is still just a baby at 7 months of age. http://www.youtube.com/watch\?v=1htOkEsZvGU http://www.youtube.com/watch\?v=94cLb9jG3g8 http://www.youtube.com/watch\?v=m-LkI5m7MfI http://www.youtube.com/watch\?v=RQAaPYLotcI http://www.youtube.com/watch\?v=kYyot0tMkMA
  24. OOps - back in my box - the small i-squeaks are ideal for a smooth fox terrier! LOL Alzheimers again!
