"All they did was work at providing an exemption for titled dogs to be shown without a muzzle and collar requirements in the show ring." DUHhhh.....that's because that's where their interests lie! Sharp Shep.....we ALL have been down this path umpteen times before on DOL.......its all old ground hashed and rehashed over and over and over again. I suggest you do a search of the archives and enjoy yourself reading it all. (Quite a few threads on the subject)

Only from Imports? what about from Aus pedigrees that have imported dogs in them? No not just from imports but from all pedigrees containing German lineage Monelite. That is why it got excptions from the dangerous dogs act in Vic only for their own breed, right? Well I don't agree with or condone with whatever happened...... but would the Dobermann club look after and seek exemptions for German Shepherds , Rottweilers or Belgian Mals??? No they wouldn't would they !! Why would they when their main responsibility as a restricted to BREED club is to look after Dobermanns and Dobermann owners. So why would it or should it be any different for the German Shepherd Club ??? Like I said I don't agree with whatever did(?) happen.......but if something did go on.....WHERE were the Dobermann club, the Rottie club and other clubs including Schutzhund clubs containing those breeds , at the time? Surely your clubs can speak up for themselves.......or did they all HOPE that whatever the GSDClubs were doing to protect GSDs .........would automatically fan out to cover all Schutzhund breeds?

Well you shouldn't go by what you 'have heard' shmoo and as for the 'other' trainers...I don't believe that either...unless they walked away unimpressed because Steve knows what he is doing and they didn't. I have also been to several lectures and workshops by Steve and the man is brilliant ! He is a very understanding dog savvy person and an amazing trainer and I for one would trust him totally with any of my dogs..........and I don't say that lightly ! Your Grey might fall to pieces with the use of a slip chain...but yours is only ONE dog of several million throughout the country who wouldn't fall to bits. Slip chains, like any other piece of training equipment have their place in the training of dogs. There is NO right piece of equipment and NO wrong piece of equipment...just as there is NO one way to train a dog. Only closed minded people see it that way.

Eagle Heights Dog Sports Club
Tapferhund replied to Paulp's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am pretty sure they are there on Sundays.??? Whats the problem that you "don't you want to 'clash' with them?" -
Well have they (Rottie Nat Council) been in touch with your various clubs throughout the country? ...and if so....what are they doing?
-
Sharp Shep, Schutzhund is a requirement for all other working breeds in Europe....not just German Shepherds . As to the other questions in your posts.........you aren't telling us anything new or that we don't already know. The subject has been done to death on this and other forums (do a search) but here in Australia attitudes will never change...so the situation in regard to schutzhund will never change. (unfortunately)

[ANKC will not take responsibility for the management nor control of Schutzhund in Australia. Also, the ANKC will not recognize any Schutzhund titles awarded in Australia or to any dog awarded a title resident in Australia. Well , as a past President of a controlling body once said to me, "The ANKC has enough on its plate with Showing, obedience, Agilty, gun dog trials etc, so if you want to do Schutzhund....go and do it but don't expect the ANKC to take it on or accept it." The thing is Nekhbet and even though I don't like it, it has always been the case that the ANKC will not recognise Australian awarded titles. The issue we have with the ANKC today is that want to remove all titles from a dogs lineage in pedigrees...and that's just not on!!! They have NO RIGHT to do that ! No Member body of the ANKC shall recognize or approve Schutzhund training activity or conduct Schutzhund Trial competition and any member taking part risks disqualification. Well NO MEMBER BODY does !!! But as to individual 'members' ...they have EVERY right to do what they want outside of ANKC member body's , sanctioned events and grounds. The last time I looked this country is still a free and democratic one isn't it? The ANKC cannot dictate what people do with their lives outside of ANKC events....just as the GDClubs can't either. Like I said there are many many members who participate, breed their Schutzhund dogs and one or more who are ANKC judges as well as Schutzhund Judges......and in 35 years i have not heard of one member being at risk of disqualification. ANKC Member Bodies consider Schutzhund training is not in the best interests of their activities.] As stupid as that is.......and as they are over the whole situation .....that is their prerogative . Personally I would have liked all breed clubs of Schutzhund breeds...to have shown a bit more back bone over the situation......but that's life I guess.

Echo is right Nekhbet. I am one of those people who has been a member of Dogs Victoria and the GSDCV for 35 years and for many of those years I was a member of a Schutzhund club and participated in this great sport with my dogs. ( All the dogs in my avatar) I would still be a member only for distance as the nearest club is about 120kms from me....but when I was a member....nearly everyone in the GSDC knew and nothing happened to me or others who were or are still members of dogsport. In actual fact , when it came to any GSDC demos I went to......my dogs were the only ones who never had to be tested for reliability when out in public..every one knew how reliable they were.........and that's something I am very proud of to this day. ( all my wonderful dogs in the avatar are now at rainbow bridge ) The thing is our controlling dog bodies really can't do anything because what we do outside of ANKC sanctioned events or grounds is none of their business...it has nothing to do with them.

German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Dobermann, Belgian Shepherd clubs...as well as other affected breed clubs, need to get together and work together on this !

Australia is not an 'associate' member and not a full member...but full , associate or not...the ANKC can still do what it wants regardless of the FCI.

Don Burke Just Accused Rspca Of Cruelty
Tapferhund replied to Bow Wow's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cordelia, couldn't agree more with what you have said ! You post is the BEST I have ever seen written on that JERK Burke. :p -
TrinaJ, I have it on good authority Australia is not an FCI member. Why it is up on the FCI website I don't know.....but we are not members UNFORTUNATELY. I wish we were but we're not.
-
I don't think we would have an FCI rep as the ANKC is not an FCI member.

Don Burke Just Accused Rspca Of Cruelty
Tapferhund replied to Bow Wow's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just think about it......Don the Jerk Burke is p*ssed off because recently the RSPCA actually "came out" (lol) and stated puppy farms must be closed down and that puppies should be bought from reputable registered breeders........and guess WHO , in the past , has ALWAYS supported "designer" dogs...even going as far as recommending certain puppy farms like that B-awful Croydon/Longford mob as the best place for people to get their new pup/s from ?....DON BL**DY BURKE !!! Sooo ...does Don Burke have monetary interests in these farms??? I would say YES!!!! I once told him he should stick to what he knows best.........WEEDS! -
Thanks Stormie. Personally I have never had the triennial for my dogs...but I have various friends who have and the charges have been $120 to $150.
-
"it's exactly the same type of vaccine as the annuals." Well if that's the case....WHY are Vets ripping us off by charging triple for the triennial if it is exactly the same as the annual vaccine? This is a rort and a disgrace !
-
Yes, we need to keep on this everyone. I have just heard from a friend about her friend in NSW who just received pedigrees of a dog she purchased..........with ALL Schutzhund titles removed.

Dogs That Live To A Ripe Old Age
Tapferhund replied to shepherdpower's topic in General Dog Discussion
"I suspect the preservatives in the early processed dog food must have helped us along." Actualy Meea, that's not as silly as it sounds. A few years back I partly watched some program about death and dying (can't remember what though as I turned it off..too depressing..it gave me the creeps )...but one thing that I do remember was a undertaker remarking how bodies are not decomposing as quickly as they did and it was due to a lifetime eating preservatives within foods. -
Dogs That Live To A Ripe Old Age
Tapferhund replied to shepherdpower's topic in General Dog Discussion
"Some people (and dogs) are just lucky and/or have good genes. " I agree with you Dobesrock.......it all comes down to genes and luck of the draw. My first Shepherd (many years ago now and when I didn't know any better) lived on supermarket dry foods, some tinned food and ox cheek. She had terrible skin complaints (pemphigus) for most of her life and lived on cortisone and aspirin every day of her life because of it. At one stage, she was put onto boiled rice, vegies and chicken and I was told to keep her on this diet. Needless to say...it did nothing for her skin but after two years of this diet she started to show signs in lacking certain vitamins and minerals......so was put back onto a dry food diet (Eukanuba) which made her blossom in looks but still with her skin probs. She died of old age aged nearly 17. My other Shepherds, who never had a sick day in their lives and only went to the Vet for Vaccinations and who were raised and lived on a BARF diet ...with a bit of dry thrown in NOW AND THEN only.......have all died of cancer at various ages.....the eldest a very YOUNG eleven and the youngest (recently) TOO YOUNG at seven. I just don't know anymore ....but imo It has nothing to do with what you feed them or how well you look after them or how healthy they are or seem. Same with us imo. It comes down to longevity through genetic makeup and whether your ancestors have passed on any faulty rogue genes. -
Just read Alison K's latest letter. Gee she is an amazing woman....a real go getter!!! I hope we all take on board her suggestions in what to do.
-
TrinaJ, that's fantastic news and thanks for posting. At least its a step in the right direction.......but I have just heard on good authority the ANKC is not a member of the FCI . So, if they're not a member......they don't have to abide by anything ....do they??

Dogs Victoria Wanting To Take More Decisions From Breeders.
Tapferhund replied to Steve's topic in Breeders Community
Am I missing something? Hasn't it always been around 12mths plus for small breeds and 18mths to 24mths for medium to larger breeds? Shepherds have always been not before 18mths but 20 o 24 mths would be better. -
Mmm interesting ! Well then...how can the 'ANKC' make a decision on this when the ANKC is 'a meeting' between delegates from each States controlling dog body? Each delegate makes up the ANKC.......so how can NSW not be aware ? How many other State CEO's are "not" aware???? We need to do something people.......so get writing and voice your concerns.

Enigma, what toughgirl says is true. I did the course a few years ago and enjoyed the lectures, the instructors and most of the workshops. The only thing I , along with many others couldn't stand, was ADT, the training organization most of us had to put time in with as a requirement of the course........but they're gone now (thank doG)...so the course now should be even MORE enjoyable.
