  1. It all seems very competative.....I just bought a lead for my pup and he doesn't hate it....it is pretty hard to teach him how to 'stack'? I can't wait for this Thursdays Handlers lesson at Rotweiler club..... Thanks for all of the top tips too!
  2. Bio Zet laundry powder is what we use. It has an enzyme in it that breaks down the urine.......
  3. Hi, My Rhodesian Ridgeback was light wheaten when we brought him home at 8 weeks old and became slightly darker until about 4 months old. He is now 5 months old and looks "speckled" "ticked" "flecked" with a mixture of both light and dark wheaten. IE he has 2 dark hairs (caramel) to 1 light (almost blonde). His coat is lovely and shiny, his skin is also healthy. I am wondering if he will grow out of this? Is this just puppy fur changing to 'adult' fur? Any other ideas? Thanks in advance
  4. This is all VERY involved, and seems to be focussing on the points/challenges systems - Kinda makes me nervous! :D I have a few questions about the form: 1. Is there any other way of paying an entry fee other than sending a check with my entry slip? 2. Is MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS my personal Dogs SA number? 3. What is a Member's Subscription 4. Is my Breed Class Number 4-Hounds or do I have to add he is a Baby Puppy (5 months old at time of entry) 5. What is SPECIAL CLASS I am hoping to enter the Collie Club Championship show at SACA park on May 21 & 22.....do I need to be a champion to enter or can I go as it is my first show ever? Thanks in advance.......
  5. I am assuming other people than Rotweiler owners can come along? I have a rhodesian Ridgeback and would love to come to the session this coming Thursday 5th May. :D thanks for the info too And Lucious.....did you get your Cane Corso Locally?? I was looking to get one and decided on a Rhodesian Ridgeback.......I am a bit jealous :D
  6. "How loyal were you to the breeder's suggestion on diet?" Very Loyal - we brought the dog food she was feeding them and will keep puppy on breeder diet for entire lifespan (unless cannot do so due to medical reasons) Our breeder was WONDERFUL. We will certainly keep in contact with her and will continue to take all of her advice seriously and intently. :D
  7. Thanks for all the info I live Prospect-ish, I am willing to travel 20-30 minutes if it is the right place. I might just start going to watch some classes around the place before I lock it in. Thanks again all!
  8. To me looks like a Cairn Terrier head for sure (the type of hair/fur even the colouring) can't see too much if the body.....but regardless...TOOOO CUTE!
  9. I am also looking for one. I wish to take my new pup to obedience when he has had all vaccinations etc but we also have a 6 year old dog we wish to take along with us (a seperate class is okay of course). I would like something to set-up my pup for the future in (hopefully - if he likes it) Agility. I hear that Gepps Cross (Grand Junction Road) offers a great obedience class, but it sounded to me like the traditional classes in the way of standing in a circle walking and heeling and sitting (no slip collars allowed)
  10. New 8.5 week old Pup slept like this for AGES!
  11. I AGREE ........my dog agressive dog and I would have a tug of war with a halti on (head thrashing and all) apparently it freaked him out that it restriced his options (of walking away etc) and i really upset me that he was in such a state. I was advised to 'throw away' the halti and get a longer lead so I could give him 'options' I was also advised to turn around and walk away from another dog showing my boy that I would 'keep him safe'. I must say, ever since I have done that, he looks at me when ever a dog approaches, he walks PERFECTLY on a loose lead and when we walk past a dog now I just give him all of the lead (still holding the end of course) and he takes as much space as he needs avoid the offending dog - WITHOUT pulling, or taking notice of the other dog. To get him to be so fantastic on the lead I took DAILY walks near very single barking dog in the neighbourhood and turned around the SECOND the other dog started barking/snarling/etc. I also remained really calm and patent and after about 2 or 3 months he is incredible. Still a work in progress because we have a few slip ups (and it is hard to avoid an off leash dog storming us at the beach - which we have only been able to attend recently) I am not saying this will work for you, but it is another view. Edited to say: My dog is a rescue dog, we got him at about 3 months old and he is now 6 years old.....something traumatised him as a pup and we work constantly and consistently with him so he can over come his issues and be a really happy content dog, which he seems to be now and we want him to be for the rest of his time.
  12. Growth plates closer later on a desexed dog. This leads to some bones growing for longer than they would do otherwise. That in turn effects the structure of the dog. Sorry, I canot work out the quote thing to take out my quote but anyway...thanks poodle fan very interesting reading about all of this!...
  13. if it is Days Road then I thought they were great if it is the same people they are very patient etc. But that was 5 years ago now! Thanks for the luck and good luck to you also Viszlas are GORGEOUS! good luck with everything!!
  14. My boy was desexed at about 8 weeks of age (he was from Animal Wefare League and is now 6 years old) and he cocks his leg, gets territorial, protects me when I am home alone, loves big sooky cuddles, etc. I don't believe desexing him early affected his personality in any way. One thing I believe has has happened is his growth was compromised. He seems very 'leggy' in his proportions and I have heard something about growth platelets not forming properly if desexed too young? I think it is hard to judge one way or another, but if I had a choice I would always wait until a dog is grown/matured/filled out before desexing him.
  15. I am getting a Rhodesian Ridgeback. what about you? I have been to a vet (in croydon) for puppy preschool with our current dog and it was very beneficial, I was just wondering what others thought as everyone here seems to have a huge wealth of information I have heard a rumour that some places aren't as good as others so I wanted to get a few words of advice from people with alot of experience behind my decision.
  16. Hello, I am getting a puppy in about 5 weeks and want to take him to a very good puppy preschool. I know that a few Vet's here offer the service, but then I noticed PetStock hold the classes too. Has anyone been to the PetStock Puppy School (Prospect)? If so, what did you think? If you have been to a vet for puppy preschool which one was it and what would you recommend? Basically I want the facility to be CLEAN and safe for puppy, and also have a constructed class rather than a free for all 'play time'. Thanks kindly for any responses.
  17. I am just wondering if anyone know's a great Puppy Preschool for a puppy I am getting in 6 weeks. A few vets offer the service, as do PetStock. After much questioning of each of the venues they all have puppy training (rather than a free for all play session) and clean the floors etc. If anytone has had a fantastic (or not so good) experience I would really appreciate some guidance. thanks OOps, I am in Adelaide
  18. I'm so sorry to hear about Abbi. I am a new user here but thought I would show some support to you as I had the same terrible decision to make over a year ago. I felt very torn with what to do. The only thing making my gorgeous girl wag her tail was my love, and alot of drugs. Sooner or later the drugs would have stopped working. We also have another dog who was completely freaked out by the situation. He had no idea what to do and even he showed signs of being doggy 'sad'. In the end she couldnt walk up a 2 inch stair due to a degenerative spine which is common in Dobermans (so I heard), she was incontinent, she had a thyroid issue which made her fat (although she was on a strict diet) and then she stopped eating. We experienced the rapid downhill decline over 6 months. The worse thing was she was only 5. She was completely miserable and was only happy when she was near me. Her bright gorgeous spark was gone and I knew she was in pain. Although I still get upset, and hang out at her little memorial at home often, I know it was the right thing to do and the kindest thing to do. I believe that if your beautiful little mate isn't the dog it once was, and her spark has gone, it is probably time. But no one can make the decision for you, it seems as though you have alot of support here regardless of your decision. No one should judge you for whatever action you choose to take or not take. Be kind to yourself during this hard time.
