  1. JMO but i do tend to think you get what you pay for. Super premium foods made from high quality ingredients obviously cost more to produce and therefore cost more to buy. $28.50 for 22kg makes me wonder how they do it for the price- i would be suspicious of there ingredients and the quality of them personally.
  2. Hi Meggsie If he is over 10kg (even if its only 900gms) you need to go up the dose to the 10-20kg range. If you under does you will find it to be ineffective, don't worry about over dosing, they are fairly safe drugs which require huge amounts of over dosing to have any ill effect. In my opinion frontline is not very effective anyway. I have discontinued selling it in my salon after many many complaints about it. I also witnessed first hand its ineffectiveness i have been using Advantage on my dogs for years with no problem, previously i always recommended people change between frontline and advantage to stop the fleas building up a resistance to the one drug over time. in the spirit of practicing what i preach i decided to do a does of frontline on my dogs in December last year, within days they all had fleas so i advantaged them all and strait away no more fleas and no problem since. After that and with all the complaints i was getting i have decided Frontline is no longer very effective (even some vets agree). So JMO Advantage or Advantix seems to be the way to go, although some people still swear by frontline . Good luck.
  3. yes all A5 blades will work just fine oops sorry silver blue did'nt see your post- WHAT SILVERBLUE SAID
  4. I used oster clippers for many years and never realised what i was missing out on. I now am a total Wahl convert and will never go back. I had regular problems with my oster clippers and had similar problems with andis. I clip all breeds and some very matted ones and the Wahl km2 handles it with ease. I think the Wahl clippers are actually cheaper than some of the others to. The guy i spoke to from one of the wholesalers when i was changing clipper brand said they sell 10 Wahl to every oster/andis/other, i can see why .
  5. Of course you can take your short hair dog to the groomers for a bath. We do them all the time and owners have all sorts of reasons for bringing them to us. No need to feel weird it's common place especially at this time of year when its to cold to bath outside or takes to long for them to dry. Added advantage of going to a groomer is you will get ears cleaned, nails trimmed and anal glands done (majority of owners would not be confident doing this at home)
  6. I Personally don't like Science diet because it is a cereal based product and full of fillers. If you look at the ingredients the first ingredient is corn meal (a cereal/grain). They also use alot of meat by products. I believe once upon a time Science diet was one of the best products on the market and i think it was also one of the first Super premium quality products on the market, however that was many years ago and they have not done enough to improve there formula with all the advances that have been made in Dog nutrition IMO. These days there are just so many better products available (super premium dry food wise) that poor old science diet has been left for dust. Having said that Hills is one of the few brands that have a good prescription diet range. IMO the best dry food available at the moment is eagle pack. They use only human grade organic ingredients and its holistic. Unfortunately mine will not eat it- fussy little buggers . I have also been told that Hills is one (there are a few others) the companys who tests on animlas in there labs, i personally am not a fan of testing on animals JMO.
  7. when i rescued my boy he was extremely emaciated. I fed him on a super premium puppy food or a premium performance dry food for very active dogs. These are both higher in calories than a normal maintence diet. The pound also recommended feeding chicken wings as they use those all the time to fatten up the underweight rescues. I assume as wings have the skin on they would be more fattening than the chicken necks, lamb flaps and other fatty cuts of bone/meat would also work well. Butchers always have fatty off cuts available. As others have said you will find once she is on a good diet she will gain weight pretty quickly with my boy he required surgery so they were keen for me to fatten him up ASAP and these are some tricks i found helped. I was also told cottage cheese by someone who works at the RSPCA apparently thats what they use also to help thin dogs gain weight there, never tried it though. Dont know if it would agree with very dog ????
  8. apparently its not that easy. Thats what mine were on the eye drops for but even then my vet said it was a long shot.
  9. 2 of my Toy poodles suffer from tear staining as well. As a groomer I see so many dogs with it so appears to be very common. All mine are on a natural diet and no matter which products you try nothing seems to help. My vet has checked them both out and everything is normal except the tears do not run down the back of the sinus instead spilling out of the eye and hence the stains i.e. blocked tear duct. Mine have been have on eye drops to help unblock the tear ducts but as they are 2 and 4 years old now my vet says it is very difficult to get them unblocked. She said it can be caused from other things like infections and eyelashes growing inward. In some cases but when all else is normal and the tear ducts are blocked my vet said it is Hereditary. She is very good but and wants to investigate some other options to see if anything can be done. It does not bother my guys in any way nor me for that matter other than not looking very nice, but if it can be corrected why not. Will let you know if u have any success.

  12. Redmum congratulations on your new puppy wishing you all the best. I have been grooming for about 7 years now and it would be my recommendation that if the dog is a pet only to have him clipped (much like everyone else said). I groom a few Std Schnauzers at the moment and all of them have wiry coats and the clipping does not seem to affect them much at all. On the price thing i would charge $70 - $80 for a Std Schnauzer but all groomers are different and i think your location will affect the price also. Good on you also for doing your homework before bringing puppy home
