  1. It is normal for a chocolate poodle to fade in colour. Sometimes their colour will be strong, and they will hold it, but exposure to sun can cause it to fade quicker
  2. Thanks for this Steve, its so handy, I read it when Cruise was a Baby, and now he is 8 months, He spooked at a photographer with his large camera on Friday night, usually he is an outgoing friendly dog, but I couldnt get anything out of him, He would not pay any attention to me, until the camera went away... He has seen this guy with his camera before, and it hasnt worried him, until Friday night Some people had said he is 'at that age' so I referred to it and yes he is... I will see how he responds in the future.
  3. Hello We dont have anything to do with Earthdog here in WA, well that I am aware of anyway, so I really know nothing... I am heading to Melb in June, and notice there is a earthdog test, and I was hoping I would be able to get some info, so perhaps I could look at trialling Cruise. If anyone can give me some info, that would be brilliant Cheers Sarah
  4. I use Eukanuba, never just plain, and always with other stuff. I give them a dollop of yoghurt, or some vegies or cheese with it. I have been told good and bad stories about it, but am happy with it.. No smelly farts, normal hard stools and good condition.
  5. Its all good, just the beginning of an infection... Have drops to do twice daily to see if it clears up
  6. I have plucked all the hair out and cant see any further down, and I cant see anything, but that is a concern
  7. Hi there, For the past few days, Cruise (WHWT) was scratching his ears, so I cleaned them up with cleaner the day before yesterday, Last night, he started shaking his head, so i looked again, and it was red and inflamed. So i flushed it with cleaner again. He wasnt too worried about it this morning, but its still red, so Im taking him to the vets tonight Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks Sarah
  8. Yikes, my Lab would probably roll hers too, I'll make sure if I do get one to not go the stingy route I never thought to look at the canine shop (I assume at their grounds?). I'd much rather be able to buy one in person to save on the $50 postage charges! Do you know what hours their shop is open? I've never been in there before but need to go, knowing full well I'll come out with my credit card clutching itself in pain after a good workout  Hello, The shop at the K9 is open usually whenever a show is (which is alll weekend this weekend - Cruise and I will be there ) They also have a website http://members.iinet.net.au/~wasps/
  9. My two do it, They lick each others mouth at the same time... Its like they are tounging each other. Its gross I just let them do it.. I put it down to being a dog thing
  10. Can I bring Cruise with me?? Or should I leave him at home Opps just remembered that I have a dinner on this night, so wont be able to come There are a few trials coming up so will have to check them out
  11. I must mention they arent running at the moment - xmas break. Will be back on the first tuesday in feb
  12. Yep here is a link to http://www.agilityclubwa.com/ Sorry I dont know how to do the linky thing you can start at 12 weeks
  13. Very good advice, except there is the option of either having her 12 week injection (c5) and then there is no need for a 16 week shot.. vets are just making $$$ by asking for 3 sets of vaccinations. If you do this option, then you can get her out and socialise her earlier
  14. I wish I had focused more with Cruise over christmas, and perhaps we could have had a bit of fun... I have got him sitting and watching Plus he is only 5.5 months... We start agility training in feb Baby puppy foundation class WOOHOO. Im not really sure of how 'titles' work... Just know I wanna multi title cruise... Im even going to try him in Endurance too.. (if his breed is allowed that is)
  15. Oh an when I say Barf Patties, I get Dr B's RAW Barf patties from Better Pets n Gardens... you should be able to get them from most pet stores.. Im going to start feeding him chicken necks when hes 6 months..
  16. I have a 5.5MTH Westie Pup... I was feeding him 100% Eukanuba Biscuits, then decided I wanted to throw in some Barf Raw pattie, so just slowly did it, like Ally mentioned but I worked up to 50%Euk and 50% Barf Patties. Some days if im bad and forget to defrost his patties he goes 100% Euk, and other days I feed him 50% Euk and 50% Barf Patties... He now has a tolerance for both foods. I also throw in some natural yoghurt at times, and even have been giving him bits of carrot Come visit us in the westie forum here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...p;#entry3303279
  17. I would like Agility training to go smoothly this year.. I am starting out in feb with Cruise in the Baby Foundation Class, there is still a year before he can compete, so I hope it all goes well with him... He is a stubbon thing, I have been teaching him sit, and he had semi picked it up, next session, he was doing it without fail In the mean time, He is in his first show in Minor at the end of Jan, so would like him to get a good percentage to his title, and pick up some class in show prizes
  18. Im trying my kids on Dr B's Barf RAW Patties, the dogs love them, but the cats stick their noses up at them... If they have a cat variety I will give that a shot
  19. I had Cruise out in the loungeroom, until he was toilet trained. The first few nights he winged and whined, then he realised that he wouldnt get away with it.. I just played music for him, and left a small light on. Now he is 4.5 months, and has been sleeping in the bedroom for the past month, he is almost 100% trained through the night, and if he is desperate, he goes out to the back door, and does it there. but this has only happened twice in the past month. Puppys have to learn that they need to give indications, and not all puppies are the same, its up to you to be on the ball... As soon as puppy wakes / stops playing / finishes eating she will need to go out. I basically went by the rule, to take Cruise out every half hour at first, then delayed the time slowly. He will now sit by the door and look at it if it is shut, but most of the time its open. Sarah
  20. Thanks I know how to use a clicker and will start working with him until he is old enough to start participating. Cruise is very focused on me, and completely reliable off lead.. Sarah
  21. Ok, So I have a 4.5 month Westie, I have been working with Cruise for the show ring, which he has responded well too, and now would like to start working with him for obedience / agility for the future. I dont know where to start.. I was in the pet shop and bought him a dumb bell, just to see how he responds to it. Do I just start teaching him basic commands (sit / down / stay / heel?) I ultimately would like to do agility with him, but does he need any obedince certs to get into it? I have tought my other dog these commands, and she has been a breeze to teach, but lacks focus when in a public area. I could never trust her off leash, where with him at 4.5months I can. Should I try to find classes and go there, or is it possible to do at home
  22. Everyones suggestions here are brilliant. I started my Westie boy off at 8 weeks with brushing, and getting used to handling, I started in very short sessions, and gave him treats when he behaved, and then gradually made it longer. I had to completely strip his coat out at 12 weeks, which took me about 4 hours over 4-5 days to do. He is a show dog, so MUST be groomed, plus he is a dog, and must do what I expect of him. I hate doing nails, so his havent been done for some weeks ( I took him to his breeders to be done last time) I have a gillotine style, plus a file. I got them done (i cut first, then filed off the sharp bits), without much stess. I was firm with what i wanted, he bit me while I was filing, and I told him BAHH dont do that, put him back in my lap, and continued and he behaved for the rest of the time. Come join us in the westie forum in breed sub forums... We would love a picture or two
  23. Hello I have a Sony Carl Zeiss Cybershot 8.1mp digital camera. At the moment I just take plain pictures (I have posted pics in the westies forum) I want to learn how to do funky things with my camera, not just when doing poitraits of dogs, but objects too. Is my camera adequate to do this with, and should I download / purchase photoshop? Sarah
  24. It was human beef mince, boiled with veggies and rice (kinda like a casserole), I had mixed it with his Eukanuba biscuits I have gone out and invested in some BARF patties, and will start to slowly introduce them.
