  1. Think you need to google dog anatomy lol
  2. From the extended breed standard "Nose “definitely black”: Before AKC registration, there were registered American Pit Bull Terriers with red noses. These dogs came from different root stock and had a different appearance- including liver colouration. The intention here was to prevent them from entering the AKC breeding pool of American Staffordshire Terriers. The nose should be black - not red or pink. We now know that it is genetically impossible for a blue dog to have a black nose, yet there were blue Am Staffs then, as now, and they were shown and finished championships. The nose should appear darkest charcoal on dogs with blue diluted colouration. Forgiveness can be made for dark charcoal on this colour, but the darker the better. The nose should still appear as black to the observer. A dudley nose (flesh coloured) is listed as a fault. For dogs without dilute colouration the nose must appear as written - definitely black."
  3. I got a comment from a judge saying that my boy has to grow a lot bigger.... ah hello..... he's big enough a he is thankyou! Hmmmm maybe some judges need to read the breed standard!
  4. I think a stafford would be a good choice. They would stick to the kids and be involved in everything. Not sure if a beagle would be good. My OH's beagle wasn't interested in toys, was very stubborn and had terrible recall .... that's just my experience though. A child could easily walk/train my stafford and I actually found the beagle to be stronger than my stafford who only weighs 14kg. Also a JR would probably suit too. The ones I've met are fiesty little buggers who would be perfect for a bunch of boys and are big dogs in a little package
  5. 3 more weeks until I get my little bundle of joy! This is Angel
  6. We feed Pro Plan... the salmon one. I tried Bonnie for 3 months on my amstaff boy and he lost a lot of condition, had dry flakey skin, and was quite lethargic. I then changed him back to Pro Plan and picked up within a few weeks of the changover. Nice healthy coat, loads of energy and keeping weight well. My OH also had a beagle who thrived on supercoat and pal so I guess every dog is different.
  7. Make sure health certificates of the parents are viewed and don't just take the word of the breeder. Also, health tests aren't just a certificate from the vet saying they are healthy, they are DNA/xray tests. If the breeder says they don't need to Ataxia test because their dogs are healthy, run a mile..... there is no reason not to test for Ataxia and ethical breeders test their dogs.
  8. I have a ragdoll who has no fear of my dogs (stafford Missy & amstaff Buster). She will jump on Missy from the top of the lounge and chase her through the house. Missy is actually quite scared of the cat so they don't really play much. I would never leave Buster with the cat though. He is fine is she sits still but the cat likes to jump around and play chasey's and Buster can't contain himself when she's acts like that.... we would have a dead kitty very quickly if he got hold of her.
  9. Thanks. I was worried about her getting dehydrated with the heater on tonight if she couldn't have water.
  10. I'm getting one of my dogs desexed tomorrow morning and I remember the vet saying no food after 7 tonight but I forgot what she said about water. Can she have any water after 7pm?
  11. whoops I didn't read your first post correctly...... sorry!
  12. I'd have to say again that you would be very hard pressed to find a good quality registered amstaff puppy for $600. Sure maybe you could find an older pup that the breeder couldn't sell and has reduced the price just to get rid of, or from poor quality parents, but otherwise I think saying $600 is the average is misleading. I know what a few of the breeders who have current listings are selling their pups for, and some are a lot more than the $1200-$1500 that I believe to be the average.
  13. yay lots of great ideas here!! She's red and I have a couple of weeks to decide so keep them coming
  14. Hi Guys, I need some creative registered name ideas for a new pup..... problem is I'm not creative I didn't breed it.... I'm just allowed to choose a name after it's prefix. OK... The pups bloodlines have the words "Heaven" and "Prayer" in it and my prefix is HOT AS HELL so I want to kind of have a similar theme. Oh and it's a girl puppy. Any ideas please???
  15. I found on average Amstaff pups go for $1200-$1500.
  16. I'm thinking of getting a couple of books and was wondering if anyone has "Tricks of the Trade" by Pat Hastings?? Is it a good book? Or is there a better one out there with tips for show handing?
  17. I don't know all the results only; BISS - Fibra Echos of Buba RUBISS - CH Ultrablu Paleface Girl Challenge Dog - GR CH Blueskystafs Rock Hard RCC - Zforce Big Time Charlie CHallenge Bitch - Fibra Echos of Buba RCC- Ultrablu Paleface Girl Whoops made a mistake.... all fixed now.
  18. OH will be there with Buster (amstaff) on the sunday. I got my numbers yesterday and wow there are a lot of staffords going! I have to stay home with the baby...... I think I'm going to miss some good times
  19. Yes I got the papers in the end. The breeder was gloing through some personal difficulties so didn't get the paper work in until 2 weeks after I picked up my pup, she then got the names submitted rejected and had to resubmit them, wait for dogsnsw to send them back and then forward the papers to me. She wasn't being dodgy.... just lazy and preoccupied and then dogsnsw took time at their end. Hopefully this will be the case for you and your breeder is just lazy and is too embarrassed to face you until they have the papers for you.
  20. When I bought my pup I hadn't received the papers for 2 months and I was really worried. I called dogsnsw who said that yes she was a member and that they would send her a letter on my behalf by registered post to prompt her to contact me. If she still didn't respond to that then they said they can't so anything. I asked dogsnsw to hold off a few days as I wanted to give the breeder a few more days to respond and in that time she got back to me with an explanation that I was quite happy with. I then contacted dogsNSW again and the lady I spoke to tried to push me to still send the letter as I hadn't received the papers yet and was just taking the word of the breeder. I decided against this. So.... it might me worth having a chat the the ppl at dogsnsw because it depends on who you talk to.
  21. Did you end up making a spring pole? I used a garage door spring bought from the local hardware shop and attached it to a rafter with achain. This is so the dog can bounce up and down. I then attached a tyre dog toy to the spring with some rope so that I can easily take the toy down without having to disassemble the whole thing. My stafford girl loves it and just goes crazy hanging off it, but my amstaff boy is a big lazy lump who loses interest after about 30 seconds.
  22. Thanks for the lovely comments guys. She could've had 2 heads and I would have still loved her to death. I begged my mum for a dog every year for christmas and in the lead up to finally getting Tia, I got a bike, a trampoline, budgie, and a cat all to try and make me forget about getting a dog..... it didn't work I was 9 when I got Tia and we got to the highest class at my local obedience class within 12 months My mum had to beg the club to let me train Tia because I was under 12. Here are a few more photos I found while skipping down memory lane.
  23. I thought staffy and foxy in there maybe. You'll never guess what the RSPCA said she was..... wait for it..... Boston Terrier X Foxy lol :p
