I do know of someone that needs to rehome their flyball/agility dogs due to ill health. Could you be interested in ones that are either already competitive or in early training?

Surely the greyhound who had funds raised specifically for his dental but for which nil was spent (and in fact the owner paid again), should be evidence of fundraising being inappropriately used? In our group, money identified for a purpose needs to be used for that purpose. Should there be more funds donated than what was required, it could then be transferred to another purpose (eg vetwork for another dog), but not before the identified donation request was completed. ...and all the other dishonest fundraising for dogs that they don't even have access to etc. The poor unsuspecting public, the poor dogs for whom getting out of the pound is the easiest step. I can only think that somebody's pocket benefits from this as it certainly isn't for the ongoing welfare of the dogs. R

Trying to reduce the numbers coming into the pound and improving responsible pet ownership are great initiatives. Hope the meeting goes well. Would love to hear how it all turns out. R

I've seen many "labradoodles" over the years. We've seen quite a few go through rescue (and Golden Retriever/poodles). They range quite vastly in temperament and coat type. A friend has one who is a lovely dog, poodle coat, a genuinely kind and easy dog. Another has a rather large one but it has hip dysplaysia and not able to do much, she has a poodle type coat but it is very coarse (bit like steel wool). A person at dog club had two large ones that were similar to the one previously mentioned but both were very dog aggressive with poorly kept coats. I've seen several others that have more a "scruffy" coat, bit like a wolfhound look and they tended to shed and one that had short hair with little white spikes of hair that came out all over the place a bit like a toothbrush. Of these, most were VERY ACTIVE and very intelligent. Of those that had training and were given a job to do (obedience, agility, etc) they were great, the others were ratbags. Most of the ones that I've seen in rescue have been more the ratbag variety, more like the hypo lab that is untrained, where they like to paint you with their paws and can be mouthy. In the right home they can be lovely dogs, in the wrong home they can be a nightmare. Interestingly, most people that I spoke to where it was their first lab/poodle, they didn't expect them to be so active. At least your family are on a bit of land, so as long as they are prepared to put in training and look after their coats, they should be fine.

There are benefits of non-shedding dogs and disadvantages of long-haired dogs on farms. Unless they are continuously clipped they are constant burr and leaf matter collectors, so can be quite high maintenance to make sure that they aren't matted and that they are bringing "stuff" into the house. There was a small labradoodle type at the vets for its (hmm must have been annual) clip last week. It lived on a farm. It was DISGUSTING and had 2 large fish hooks embedded in its fur and the owners didn't know (quite the shock for the vet nurse when she was clipping)!!!

I saw her when she was dumped in the pens and later in the pound (in cages) and she is soooooooo affectionate towards people. I've never been an Akita fan due to their "guarding" behaviours but she is all wags and love. I did note that it said "dominant towards other dogs" on the front of the drop off cage.

And he is currently laying under my foot as I catch up with today's emails. He is quite a nice little dog, active and friendly. Has fitted in quite easily. Seems to be somewhat submissive in nature to the other dogs. Have 6 girls as friends, I think he's pretty happy! Slept quietly overnight in the crate too!

No problem. I have him here at my place whilst something can be found for him. Didn't want today to be his last day. So far he has been really good and has settled in with the smaller/med dogs well. He's a bit unsure of the big active guys. He's had a "service", wash, flea treatment and worm. He has even been good about not lifting his leg inside. He will need a carer that can give him training though as he has missed out on leash training, etc. If anyone can help out with a spot for him, please let me know. Rae PS. Thanks Dogmad. I personally didn't see him with the cat but all the people in the house said that he was very good with the cat and that they would play together. I think he grew up with the cat. He is a sweetie but needs a home where someone can give him some of the general training and socialisation that he has missed out on. Tazar, Pookie was only slightly taller (he is a small mini poodle size - wild guess around 30cms). I could potentially take a bigger dog in to meet him. Raelene

ARF were contacted by a local vet as a 3yo tan coloured scruffy jack russell x was taken in to be euthanased. The owner has bone cancer and her bones are very brittle. If he jumps on her he can break her bones, so they need to get rid of him. Buddy is approx 3yrs old and lives with a cat and is good with kids. He is housetrained. He has little training, can sit for a treat. At times he jumps up on people and barks if other dogs in the neighbourhood are barking. My sister met Buddy the other day and he was a bit shy and standoffish, very attached to the owner. I took one of our dogs down to meet him a couple of days ago and he seemed quite confident and forward and was keen to meet our dog. He remained friendly with him, even after our dog growled at him (as he was getting a bit more attention/sniffing than he was used to). We took Buddy and Pookie for a walk together and Buddy remained fairly focussed on Pookie though was friendly at all times. He walked along with us but you could see he was not used to being walked as he was a bit all over the place. We entered Buddy's house and he was happy to have Pookie in his house and around his family with no problems. Buddy is a handsome tan scruffer who has a slightly longer leg. At present ARF doesn't have a suitable carer for Buddy and we are appealing to other rescues to see if we can find him a spot before WEDNESDAY 27 June. If anyone can help, please PM me as soon as possible.

They said that they have already been in touch with the RSPCA and that there was nothing suitable available (needs to be able to be a companion to another dog). Unfortunately neither of them drive, so makes rescuing from a shelter out of the local area difficult. Thanks for trying. Anyone have any other idea? R

I've had an enquiry from an older couple who recently lost their 15yo kelpie X. Their other kelpie x is fretting and they want a friend for him. They are retired and home much of the time, dogs sleep in the laundry with a dog door, have morning time cuddles on the bed. The would prefer a dog similar to the age of their current dog (11yrs) that is in good health. Catch is they do not drive, so dog can't be too far away. Anyone know of anything? R

Ned is a stunning male purebred Boxer, 5-7 years. Ned’s owner is very reluctantly needing to place him in a new home due to her ill health and moving into a house where she is unable to take him. Ned loves people and enjoys a game of fetch. He is a great house dog but is happy to wait for his owners to come home from work if he is in the backyard. He has never been known to dig up the garden or chew shoes. Can be a little aloof at times but will be your best friend when you are working on your computer as he just loves being with people. Best suited to a single dog family or a family with a younger and similar-sized female dog as he sometimes doesn’t understand that he is so big and his play can be a little rough. He is good on the lead and has good basic training, he can sit and shakes hands and loves to go for a ride in the car. He adores his toys, especially his squeaky duck. Ned is a first-class heater hog and a great companion! I do have a couple more photos of him but they are too big to put on here.

Hi Sheridan Dog was taken on from elderly person who went into a home. The breeder has been contacted but wasn't "receptive" shall we say. He is listed with both NSW and VIC Boxer clubs. R

They have been in contact with the Boxer Rescue arm and I understand are on their books. Putting out more feelers due to lack of time. Rae

A friend has just been in contact with me. Her health has been very poor of late and now she has to move house urgently and is unable to take her two purebred boxers, 1 male and 1 female. They are both 5-6 yrs old, female is very social (with people and gets on with other dogs) and active - loves to play ball. Is good on lead. Whilst mostly an outside dog would love to come inside. Male - Loves people and enjoys a game of fetch. Great house dog but is happy to wait for his owners to come home from work if he is in the backyard. Oh I have only just seen this. So sorry KKDD to hear that Valentino has crossed Rainbow Bridge. He was such a cool little dude! Thinking of you. It's never easy to lose a fur-family member. RIP Valentino
