Who else is going to the Grand Prix at Tamworth next weekend. My dog number is RC730...if that means anything. Maybe we could write DOL on our cards, so we can all say hi

Clearing Out My Training Dvd's
sheena replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
When I get back from the Grand Prix, I might have a look at what else I might have -
At least your petstore doesn't sell pets except for fish. Last time I was in "that" pet store, there was a poor cattle dog cross in a glass cage continuously chasing it's own tail. I only went in there to get some weed for my fish...I ended up in your store ;)

Clearing Out My Training Dvd's

I can't believe how quick you lot all were. The only ones left are Tug More & the book, How Many Dogs. Thanks everyone, now I can get on the net & buy some new ones. Hubby said I couldn't buy any more till I got rid of what I have. I kept a couple of Greg Derrett ones...not sure if I can part with them just yet . -
I have decided that I need to be strong & part with some of my Training DVD's, so that I can go buy some new ones ;) If anybody is interested they are listed Here

I have been shopping & bought a Sigma 70-300 F4-5.6 DG Macro. Now I just have to learn how to use it ;)

Dry Food For Golden Retriever Puppy
sheena replied to jamesn184's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It sounds like the OP is hell bent on using the Advance, no matter what others say about it I would like to ask the OP, why she/he has chosen Advance , just out of interest -
I bought it about last January, so I think it will be probably too late to leave feedback I let it go till now thinking that one day I will get someone to show me how to use it. The only lens I have is the Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55 & the two converters 2 x zoom & a wide angle one. ETA I have just found him on Ebay...he is still selling the same deals. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Canon-550D-Kiss-X4-T2i-Digital-SLR-Camera-3-Lenses-Kit-/120727599067?pt=AU_Digital_Cameras&hash=item1c1becf7db

Thanks for that....I am very new to this as you can see. I just did some googling on the converter & it seems there is a major part missing. I bought the camera brand new off Ebay & it was supposed to come with two extra professional lenses. I didn't realise they were only generic converters till I did a short course with the local camera shop. Looks like I have been "had"...another case of "poor man pays twice" So it's off to my friendly guy at the camera shop tomorrow ;) No more Ebay for me for buying things like cameras.
-
So is the Nifty 50 more for doing fancy closeups?? I have what I think they call "a converter" DHD 2x Telephoto Lens, which came with the camera & is a generic brand. I was told that it is meant to go between the camera & the existing camera lens, but the only place it wants to go is on the front of the lens. It doesn't bring the subject that much closer & when I zoom out I am left with a photo of the inside of the lens....I end up with a round photo :D

OK...so I am only new to this...what is a Prime Lens??

Hi tiff-689, that sounds like a good idea. I currently walk my two with harnesses but the clip is on the back so i think it just makes it more comfortable for them to pull me. To be of any use, the lead must clip on the front. Back clipping harnesses just encourage pulling.

What is a good zoom lens for a Canon SLR500D, which is not too big & is value for money. Is the lens called Nifty Fifty a zoom. I want it for taking moving pictures mainly of dogs (of course)

That's the only one on the list I don't have. Stupid time zones, everyone else had beaten me to it while I was sleeping! Me too I am seriously considering buying it from Clean Run, as well as the book, if they can give me a better deal on postage than $40.48 Maybe when I've finished with it, you can have it. :D Sheena have you had a look at http://www.agilityclick.com/prod158.htm Same price as clean run and much cheaper postage. Have just placed my order...postage was only $12.00

Had a trial over the weekend & I really saw a heap of improvement in my girl, thanks to the LAT I have been doing with her. Firstly, I tried to do some LAT with her, but she just wasn't interested in looking at those "dumb" things...just had eyes for me We had some awsome runs & notched up 2 Q's & it would have been more except for my bad handling. The heat got to us by the 2 last events today & I found her finding other things more exciting than me. In 9 events, she never knocked a bar, or missed a contact or missed a weave pole. I was given comments like "gee your dog's running well today" & "nice layering & distance work". It felt so good to be getting compliments...of cause no comment from the sceptics I am so proud of my girl & happy with the LAT game.

They are not actually cooked, just smoked and/or dehydrated, but I don't like giving them to my dogs...too splintery for my liking.

Control Unleashed Vs Click To Calm
sheena replied to ButerflyGirl's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have always thought that LAT & Click for Calm were much the same game, but to be honest, I have never actually read much about the latter. -
Wouldn't it be good if Troy could have a pinned thread for the sale & wanted or swap with 2nd hand DVD's & Videos I know I could probably go through my collection & clean it out a bit, make way for some new ones. I know DOL have a secction for selling things, but I never go there...always on the forum ;)

Dry Food For Golden Retriever Puppy
sheena replied to jamesn184's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It would be good if you could get a generous sample of whatever food you choose, before you buy. If you get in touch with Black Hawk in Victoria, they will send you out a sample to try. That's what I have raised my Border Collie Pup on (the Adult mix)...don't see why it wouldn't suite a Golden Retriever Pup. The Adult Mix is 25% protein & 14% fat. It contains lots of good stuff for their coat etc. I have just visited a friend in Sydney & they have a Golden Retriever (this is probably off topic). She is overweight & has the roughest coat which falls out every time she shakes or has a scratch. I asked them what she gets fed....hmmmm.....4 cups of supermarket kibble with a slice of supermarket pet roll each day & no bones. I took them down a kilo of Black Hawk, but they wern't even interested enough to read the bag Maybe other pet food companies can send you out samples as well. -
If you were in my area, you would have definately received a sample from me by now either by post or courier. I know Sherel is pretty busy at the moment with the Melbourne show coming up, so I would contact her again & let her know how urgent it is. You only need about a week to change them over from the other food. I changed my girl & the puppy over, cold turkey, & they had no problems, but that is not recommended.
-
Just a reminder for anybody going to the Coffs Harbour Dog Trial this weekend, that I will have samples of Black Hawk to hand out to anybody who wants one. If you don't already know me, just ask any of the club members & they will point you in the right direction.

Pity they don't list the ingredients on the site...but its good that it contains "real chicken & egg" Not sure what "unreal chicken" would look like. The only comment I can make, is going by the feeding guide, I would have to feed my dog almost double what she gets now on her present kibble. So to me that indicates it has a lot of fillers in it. Will check it out next time I'm in Big W.
