  1. Brown lab would have been sufficient, chestnut is way too elaborate Gotta love those golden labradors, though!! :D The last 6 poles usually come the quickest!! Congrats
  2. :D Oh go and tend to your puppy Dobe already and leave me alone :p
  3. Ooops Did I just do a no-no breed name calling thing? Apologies What do we call them then? Sorry RosieFT!! You can smack me at training next week Basically, if it ain't a Lab, I have no idea ;)
  4. Way to go, Rosie!!!!!!! Definitely film it, I wanna see! That's Millie's weaving style too, however, I suspect a Lab doing it is nowhere near as cute as a mini foxie doing it Funny how different dogs weave differently. Basically taught Millie and Ruby the same yet Ruby steps hers and Millie bounces hers I really love watching the small dogs weave, they are just too cute bouncing through!!
  5. Thats just me being extra, specially careful ST!!! I guess I hope that by being "super sensible" when it somes to eating, drinking and exercise I am lowering the risk of bloat in my ridgie....... I am still very traumatised about losing our first girl that way..Its not something I even worry about with our Kelpie though, even though there is a chance she could get bloat too!! A woman was telling me about how they lost their first Lab due to bloat because it drank a stack of water in one hit, so I am cautious about the dogs not drinking excessive amounts in one hit. Not sure if that was in the study? From what I gathered, the water bit in the quote above is just in reference to drinking either side of a meal? The theory is that is they inhale/gulp the water, it traps the air, which causes the bloat. Or something along those lines... someone please correct me if I am wrong Yep that is what I heard too, but regardless of how it happens, if drinking water causes that, I will never let the dogs drink excessive amounts really quickly, no matter how hot they are! If they really are that hot and thirsty, they can have another drink in a bit

  7. I've done zero ET training since my first 3 bike rides a couple of months ago Just too busy to find the time for it! Not entirely sure I will push my girls to do it. We'll see Ours is in June I think, it was advertised in our latest Canine News.
  8. I'll be there. I'm on the "Working Party" They didn't give much notice!! Ptolomy I will be able to come down ifnumbers are needed. Not sure how much I will contribute though. I'm on the WP because they needed more support for obedience, so I put my hand up (remember them putting out the call for help a few months back when the whole thing went down about it being cancelled?). I am not sure what help I will be either, but if you can come down and offer support I think it will be a good thing
  9. Ditto. My family could never understand why I would stress these exact points, as "we've owned dogs for years and they've all been fine". This was my first large breed, with a deep chest, I was and still am taking precautions to prevent bloat!! I could liken it to pregnant mothers these days. Women have been having babies for many years before all this advice came out about things you shouldn't eat while pregnant, etc. yet now that they're aware of certain dangers, they are taking extra precautions. Well that is what I am doing with my dogs

  12. The rules will list what commands are permitted Basically as Mason2009 said though: heel, stand, down, come, stay. Or any variation of as long as it's in English and one word.
  13. Not sure if this waS just an error in typing as you did mention auto-sits, but just in case, you can't give a command to sit, it needs to be an auto-sit when you stop. You can ask your dog to sit when lining up for the stays, though
  14. Here is the PM trial from Sunday, Ruby in Open obedience. It was quite a warm day, she had done quite well in the morning trial so for her to still try her little heart out in the afternoon was just lovely Love the cheer squad at the end Thanks guys, you know who you are!! ;) And thankfully the comments that can be heard throughout were encouraging
  15. Not if it coincides with the retrieving weekend :p I like your priorities! Priorities are a bit screwed at the moment! I sent away my entries for the State Agility Trial for the weekend of the 16th/17th, only to realise the practice retrieving trial I wanted to enter (in pre-novice) is on the 16th, so no retrieving for me Very bummed they fell on the same day! Agility comes 3rd for me in my priorities list, but as I'd already sent the entries off and I'm actually looking forward to that weekend, I wasn't going to scratch from it. Just another reason I will never make it to trialling in retrieving, lack of opportunities to train as other things get in the way! There were 4 classes this past month and I only made it to the 1st one
  16. I see in Canine News there are retrieving trials on 23rd, 24th and 25th April which is easter sat, sun and monday. Are you not doing the obedience trial on sat 23rd? I sent my entry off today Not if it coincides with the retrieving weekend :D
  17. After lots of complete fails and plenty more near misses, celebrating the small things like a single pass is what will keep me going!! If I wait until she gets the title, I might well be into retirement!
  18. fetchindawgs, what dates are the Easter trial? I don't even know when Easter is And is it at the same camp site? If there is anywhere I can get more info can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks!!
  19. Yes I am hoping to come this year. But I am still a camping dummy. I don't own a tent, and find it hard to pack food for 4 days when I don't own a campervan! I was very thankful for a few competitors taking me under their wing last year and inviting me to dinner It was taking 2 hours to cook my snags on a portable gas stove thingy Helping out in the field was great. I was nervous about being gun steward but it turned out to be a great experience! Still quite nervous about being on the thrower though, too much stress for me being responsible for it not firing properly!! Don't mind helping with someone more experienced, though. :D  At this rate, we will never be competing But I do hope you come with me one year, I need a travel and camping buddy! ;)
  20. What a lovely run, TSD!! Ziggy is a good boy!!
  21. Can anyone please tell me if a gun is used in the RAT?
  22. Here is Ruby's AM trial from Sunday: Lots of neatening up to do, but I honestly couldn't be happier with her. She was happy, for the most part she was concentrating on the job at hand, she didn't run off to greet the stewards or the judge, she didn't lag, and was just a good girl!! I will upload the PM trial tomorrow night maybe, falling asleep at the keyboard here
  23. That's usually the case, but it was my first ever CDX pass so was worth celebrating. I (not so) secretly was hoping it would be in aid of Ruby getting a CDX pass, as that truly is worth celebrating for!! There is going to be a party when Ruby gets her CDX title!! So everyone keep a date in 2020 free!!! ;)
  24. I did notice this yesterday when you guys were in the ring. I get this a bit with Ruby, she is not too keen on me pushing her away and being physical in play, so I too am working on it. Thankfully she'll hand touch. I did the whole pushing away thing in the ring yesterday and while she didn't respond with "give me more", she handled it much better than she has, she was happy and waggy so I will keep at it and reward for it! I need to work on my entrance into the ring. It's very hit and miss, still.
  25. I want to know this, too. Is it like some trophy or status symbol to have your dog walking next to you without a lead attached? Why not just have it clipped for it's safety, and quite frankly, other people's safety. Annoys the heck out of me to see people doing this along footpaths. What if I want to walk my dogs ON LEAD, approaching an off lead dog is worrying. I can't comment much on the OP as I found it too hard to follow. But I think I gathered out of it that the OP was walking their dog offlead in an onlead only area? Doesn't matter how good your dog is, laws are laws and disobeying them just makes dog ownership harder for the rest of us.
