  1. Now this sounds interesting, any chance you can give us any more info on what you do to achieve this? I'll use any good method I can to achieve a solid SFE!!
  2. No you don't have to be a member of CCCQ nor does your dog need to be on any sort of register to do obedience classes (well at least they shouldn't!) But to compete, you both need to be members Edit: I'm assuming you're in QLD? If not, replace CCCQ with whatever your canine control is.
  3. The only thing, to my knowledge, that you need to do to register your dogs on the Associate Register, is they need to be sterilised. Provide your sterilisation certificate from the vet with your application and there shouldn't be any problem.
  4. Finally got a chance to do this this evening. All good, and what's even better was she gave me some good heelwork to boot After this we practiced some more heelwork and I was happy with it today... next time, who knows with Ruby! I even got Millie out for some heelwork and she was working well for her level tonight When she got distracted and I waited for her, she actually went round and found heel herself Well, it was crooked and a bit forward, but she had the right idea
  5. Same here, I've stewarded twice so far and haven't been asked if I'm a member of CAWA, and wasn't asked if I was either when I volunteered for the Western Classic.
  6. Thanks for the website, never knew about it! at their soft crate price, sounds cheaper to get one from ebay including delivery! I might just make use of my metal crate again. Practically brand new, 50 bucks from the Quokka  Good luck at your shows
  7. DwD ANKC rules: http://www.ankc.org.au/_inc/doc_download.aspx?did=183 I can't help with the entry form, though. Sorry.
  8. We followed your most recent instructions, Ptolomy, and did well She successfully found the correct metal and correct wood each time in amongst both metals and woods
  9. My "ditzy blonde" of a Labrador took a while! No offence to blondes out there
  10. WAY TO GO, SEITA!!! Those lightbulb moments are fantastic!!
  11. Here is the website for TrackWest http://members.iinet.net.au/~mfmargot/tracking.html I'd be interested to see from other people if Perth has clubs for the others as they don't appear to be as common as obedience and agility! I was also starting to wonder if there was a Retrieving club for WA as there is no website but thank goodness I found out about it in the Canine News
  12. Bugger!! :p I'm just wondering how I can take both to a trial without being kicked off the grounds for my dog disturbing those in the ring! Didn't want to have to leave them in the car, it's not really equipped for that sorta thing! I tethered Millie for a few weeks at training while Ruby had her class and the nooooise Leaving a tasty chew didn't interest her. Had to then start shoving her back in the car and you could still hear her. One day I left her strapped in the back and the front window just over half way down, and I look up and she's half hanging out the front window barking her head off :p At least I can leave Ruby with a chew... once it's gone, then she starts whining a little!
  13. And then I'll royally bugger her up You don't want to ruin that lovely focus you have with her, I have none of that with Ruby
  14. Cheers I haven't felt this excited about teaching something new in ages - probably cos it's been a while since she's learnt something new I think it's given us both the boost of fun we needed to add to our training. I can't wait to teach her more stuff Thanks!
  15. Ah good, I thought it might be something I'd have to do to help her I know, how chuffed am I!! Will do!! Thanks again for the help, really appreciate it!
  16. Hoover and Dyson, let me guess, they will eat anything? I need to rename my 2 gutsy Labs to that! They are gorgeous! Litter mates? Do you know what they are crossed with? I would have guessed Golden Retriever
  17. Are those your boys in your avatar? So cute! How old? I don't want to make assumptions based on a small pic so I will just ask - what breed?
  18. We moved onto woods tonight - Success!! We managed to use the full set after adding a few each time, but packed it up after 8 go's - definitely left her wanting to keep going! She does on the occasion pick one up and then continue to sniff the others, and promptly drops it when she finds the scented one and picks that up with more confidence and heads towards me with it. I'm still rewarding her for finding the right one in the end but wondering how I can work on getting her to not pick one up until she's 100% certain she has the right one?
  19. Do you have any tips on how to leave one in a crate or tethered while working with the other, without it carrying on like a pork chop waiting for its turn?
  20. Thanks, something else I'll look into Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, though I don't expect to be using the soft crate for long periods of time alone. Basically it's to be used at a trial while I'm there with her or while training my other girl nearby
  21. I read something about that on the CAWA site, can you explain what it involves please? You're basically assisting the judge, and can do things like calling up the next person due in the ring, taking the lead from the handler, being a figure 8 post, taking the dumbell/scent articles/etc from the handler at the gate and bringing them to the ring when required, and so on. Good way to get up close! If you're with an obedience/agility club, you can let the trainers know you'd like to help them out with any trials they might hold. I'm helping out with the fundraiser agility trial this Friday night, as well as have volunteered to help 3 nights of the 4 at the Western Classic in March (I hope to actually compete one of the nights so don't want to have both things to concentrate on!)
  22. Yikes, my Lab would probably roll hers too, I'll make sure if I do get one to not go the stingy route I never thought to look at the canine shop (I assume at their grounds?). I'd much rather be able to buy one in person to save on the $50 postage charges! Do you know what hours their shop is open? I've never been in there before but need to go, knowing full well I'll come out with my credit card clutching itself in pain after a good workout
  23. Thanks, Erny. Phew, good to know the correct term for it The Puppy Power ones look good. Think I might have to seriously budget for one, I can't keep spending for the dogs on a whim Thanks too, Danois
