  1. Look like a mixture of several in there. Couldn't the 'breeders' give you any info on parentage? I dont think they are a breed themselves. Maybe a bit of chihuahua?, tibetan spaniel?, pug?, jr terrier?, papillon? who knows, just guessing, dont think you could ever be sure. I hope they are sweet natured little guys that have a good life with you anyway.
  2. thankyou everyone. Her dogs are due for a vaccination, I think I will suggest she speak to the vet about treating them. I bred her whippets, both of them, but different litters. When this bitch, the one who keeps getting sick now was a tiny pup, the whole litter came down with giardia and nearly died. Turns out their mum Penny was carrying it and although she herself seemed perfectly healthy, the minute the pups started suckling they became infected. I think their mum probably got it from the lake at the park where we walk most days.
  3. Can Giardia appear to come and go without treatment? A friends whippet gets sick every now and then, she vomits, gets the runs and then appears to recover without treatment (other than feeding chicken and rice). She's usually only sick for a day or two so doesn't always get taken to the vet for it but I have just started to wonder if it could be giardia. Does anyone know if giardia can cause symptoms like this or, if one has it will the runs and vomiting continue until it's treated. Looking forward to answers
  4. WHIPPET RACING, HEALESVILLE JUNE 15TH 11AM Hi all, yes it's only 2 weeks to our last race and fun day before the winter close of the track. So if you want to give your whippet a run then come along to the Healesville Greyhound Track on Sunday June 15th 11am. **Please note a slight change to our starting time** Because the greyhounds have moved their trials to the afternoon, we will be starting at 11.00am . This means we must be all gone by 3pm, no stragglers please. We will have our barbie fired up selling snags and soft drinks, plus free tea and coffee and of course we will have our raffle. Members competition For members who want to enter the competition please forward your entry fee of $5 to YVWSRC c/o 286 Mt Riddell rd Healesville 3777 by June 13th. We anticipate starting with the competition first so please make sure you are there on time 11am. Fun runs Fun runs are open to both members and non members, and we try to put at least one experienced whippet in with the newbies if we can so they can show them how it's done. HELP!! We only have a small group to run these days, so if anyone can help us in anyway we would be most grateful. We will need a judge for the races and helpers in the catching pen for those rare whippets who actually run right up into them. If anyone can help please email us at y v w r c @ hotmail . com (leave out the spaces)
  5. Wondering how your little dog is going? Can we please have an update?
  6. thanks for the replies. I notice alot of greasy marks on mine, even though I try not to touch it and also try to have clean hands it always seems to have my greasy paw prints on it.
  7. Suggest she rehome the dog and get herself a rabbit or guinea pig.
  8. Yes I've read about it too and would love to be able to source it. I pounced on this thread as soon as I saw the title in the hope it was going to tell me where to get it. I suspect you'd have to do a deal (probably illegal in Australia) with an abbattoir to get it. Linda
  9. Oh, I imagined something clear plastic that just stuck on the screen not something that opens and closes. Still, since you're the only one to reply I think they mustn't be worthwhile. Thanks for responding. Linda
  10. so.... would I be right in assuming they're not worth using then.
  11. I am very conscious of marking the screen on my new canon. I've discovered there's such a thing as screen protectors It's a whole new world for me. Any recommendations as to the best ones please? Linda
  12. I'm too chicken to try anything else but what it tells me because on the computer lead that comes with the camera it warns me STOP!! Be sure to install the driver software from the enclosed CD-ROM before connecting the camera to your computer with this cable. I was able to post a couple of pics I took with it because a friend downloaded them on his computer and then emailed them to me. I have another really dumb question. With the san disk thingy, the card that you buy separately it also has a disk but I have no idea what it does. it says, data recovery software for any memory card format. When do I use that????
  13. Well, I'm in no hurry to upgrade. I've only just got the 400D mainly because on a whippet forum I go to so many there have it, it's called the Rebel in the US and they love it. I wanted to be able to capture those intense action shots of whippets running. It's all very new to me but so far I am loving it. I cant post any pics here yet though because I need a new monitor,(there's always a glitch) but I love the instant view with it instead of waiting weeks until you get your film developed only to find you had a problem and they didn't turn out. I am very much an amateur maybe I am over camera'd but hopefully I will learn and some day make use of all that it can do. I am so glad this little forum is here though. I dont think I ever visited until I got the camera. Linda
  14. Sigh, one day I hope I will understand what you're all talking about I'll be happy when it's all second nature to me. Linda
  15. Looks like the 450D is already for sale, it's advertised in the green guide this week for $1499 with 18-55/55-250 IS. Thanks Ripley, I need to figure out how to use the one I've got. Maybe in a couple of years when you want to upgrade from the 450D I'll be ready to graduate . Linda
  16. So I should've waited a month or so before buying my 400D. sigh, typically my kind of luck. Linda
  17. I bought a heated bed for my whips, not that they need it, they've got so many other places to sleep. They dont use it but it doesn't get very warm at all. I used to find it hard to know for sure if it was even on. Only when I kept my hand there for a while could I feel a slight warmth coming through. It's a firm foam mattress with a fleecy cover, think the heat pads are alot warmer. I know of a cat that got burnt by one of them. Weird really, it just kept laying there, it wasn't dead dont know why it didn't move. Linda
  18. so what did you do, make her warmer in the crate, is that what you mean. Glad you're getting her settled anyway, whatever it is you did. Here's to a long and happy life together Linda
  19. I agree, and a JRT just doesn't have the body weight to keep itself warm. Would love to see a pic of the whippet wearing PJs... Here's Puck all ready for ni ni's
  20. I suspect alot of puppies just get cold. I would suggest you cover the crate with a thick heavy blanket to keep it warm. One of my whippets who sleeps on his own beanbag UNDERNEATH a feather doona still wakes me up through the night because he gets uncovered and then cold. I've got him some pj's now and he sleeps through. so try to make sure the pup is really warm. Linda
  21. I've been running around snapping pictures like crazy and thought I'd better tackle the computer side of things so I can show off all my pics. So I put the EOS solution disk in and my computer comes up with a message: The screen resolution to execute EOS Digital solution disk is not sufficient. OK Does this mean my old treddle computer cant deal with it. Is it too old? This crap always happens to me. Do I have to now buy a new computer before I can view my pics properly? Sigh, that'd be right. anyone know for sure? Linda
  22. I ended up buying it. I need to learn how to use it before I consider upgrading lenses I think. thankyou all for your advice. Linda
  23. I knew I'd get the right answer here, thanks! Looks like something I wont be ready to use for a while anyway
  24. OK, so I've got my new camera and I am slowly working through the instruction manual. Probably gonna take me a while and I suspect I will be asking lots of questions here about it. Here's the first. There is a dial, just behind the shutter button called the Main Dial, but what does it do??? On the nomenclature page it says what it is and to refer to page 4, so I referred to page 4 and all is says is it's the main dial. Checked the index, no mention of it. What the hell's it do??? Linda
