  1. Suggest she rehome the dog and get herself a rabbit or guinea pig.
  2. Yes I've read about it too and would love to be able to source it. I pounced on this thread as soon as I saw the title in the hope it was going to tell me where to get it. I suspect you'd have to do a deal (probably illegal in Australia) with an abbattoir to get it. Linda
  3. Oh, I imagined something clear plastic that just stuck on the screen not something that opens and closes. Still, since you're the only one to reply I think they mustn't be worthwhile. Thanks for responding. Linda
  4. so.... would I be right in assuming they're not worth using then.
  5. I am very conscious of marking the screen on my new canon. I've discovered there's such a thing as screen protectors It's a whole new world for me. Any recommendations as to the best ones please? Linda
  6. I'm too chicken to try anything else but what it tells me because on the computer lead that comes with the camera it warns me STOP!! Be sure to install the driver software from the enclosed CD-ROM before connecting the camera to your computer with this cable. I was able to post a couple of pics I took with it because a friend downloaded them on his computer and then emailed them to me. I have another really dumb question. With the san disk thingy, the card that you buy separately it also has a disk but I have no idea what it does. it says, data recovery software for any memory card format. When do I use that????
  7. Well, I'm in no hurry to upgrade. I've only just got the 400D mainly because on a whippet forum I go to so many there have it, it's called the Rebel in the US and they love it. I wanted to be able to capture those intense action shots of whippets running. It's all very new to me but so far I am loving it. I cant post any pics here yet though because I need a new monitor,(there's always a glitch) but I love the instant view with it instead of waiting weeks until you get your film developed only to find you had a problem and they didn't turn out. I am very much an amateur maybe I am over camera'd but hopefully I will learn and some day make use of all that it can do. I am so glad this little forum is here though. I dont think I ever visited until I got the camera. Linda
  8. Sigh, one day I hope I will understand what you're all talking about I'll be happy when it's all second nature to me. Linda
  9. Looks like the 450D is already for sale, it's advertised in the green guide this week for $1499 with 18-55/55-250 IS. Thanks Ripley, I need to figure out how to use the one I've got. Maybe in a couple of years when you want to upgrade from the 450D I'll be ready to graduate . Linda
  10. So I should've waited a month or so before buying my 400D. sigh, typically my kind of luck. Linda
  11. I bought a heated bed for my whips, not that they need it, they've got so many other places to sleep. They dont use it but it doesn't get very warm at all. I used to find it hard to know for sure if it was even on. Only when I kept my hand there for a while could I feel a slight warmth coming through. It's a firm foam mattress with a fleecy cover, think the heat pads are alot warmer. I know of a cat that got burnt by one of them. Weird really, it just kept laying there, it wasn't dead dont know why it didn't move. Linda
  12. so what did you do, make her warmer in the crate, is that what you mean. Glad you're getting her settled anyway, whatever it is you did. Here's to a long and happy life together Linda
  13. I agree, and a JRT just doesn't have the body weight to keep itself warm. Would love to see a pic of the whippet wearing PJs... Here's Puck all ready for ni ni's
  14. I suspect alot of puppies just get cold. I would suggest you cover the crate with a thick heavy blanket to keep it warm. One of my whippets who sleeps on his own beanbag UNDERNEATH a feather doona still wakes me up through the night because he gets uncovered and then cold. I've got him some pj's now and he sleeps through. so try to make sure the pup is really warm. Linda
  15. I've been running around snapping pictures like crazy and thought I'd better tackle the computer side of things so I can show off all my pics. So I put the EOS solution disk in and my computer comes up with a message: The screen resolution to execute EOS Digital solution disk is not sufficient. OK Does this mean my old treddle computer cant deal with it. Is it too old? This crap always happens to me. Do I have to now buy a new computer before I can view my pics properly? Sigh, that'd be right. anyone know for sure? Linda
  16. I ended up buying it. I need to learn how to use it before I consider upgrading lenses I think. thankyou all for your advice. Linda
  17. I knew I'd get the right answer here, thanks! Looks like something I wont be ready to use for a while anyway
  18. OK, so I've got my new camera and I am slowly working through the instruction manual. Probably gonna take me a while and I suspect I will be asking lots of questions here about it. Here's the first. There is a dial, just behind the shutter button called the Main Dial, but what does it do??? On the nomenclature page it says what it is and to refer to page 4, so I referred to page 4 and all is says is it's the main dial. Checked the index, no mention of it. What the hell's it do??? Linda
  19. Thanks very much everyone. I've noticed on ebay (dont think I'll buy one there but looking) that some ads stress MADE IN JAPAN does that mean some Canons aren't made in Japan, perhaps China?? If so, would there be a difference in quality? Canon are a good name, logic tells me they would have pretty strict quality control where ever their cameras are made but is this the case? Linda.
  20. I want to buy a good camera to take action running shots of whippets, as well as using it for close ups. The running shots could be head on so obviously they'll be coming towards me at about 55kph. I am a camera dummy but on a whippet forum alot use the Canon eos 400d. That camera is currently on sale with 2 lenses 18-55mm & 75-300mm it's selling for $1149. I need to know, is this a good price and are these lenses the sort I'd need. can someone tell me, preferably in moron simple terms please Linda
  21. My dogs do this sometimes if they have an empty tummy. They always look sad when they do it. I usually give them a tiny bit of milk or a bit of dry food, something just to get a little bit of food in them. Mine are fine after that. watch him but I suspect he will be fine. Linda
  22. Thanks Barry, yes it's lots of fun but wow I am finding out it's hard work too. StriderSin you might have to start something up yourself. That's how we started. Start off by looking around for somewhere suitable to hold a get together. It doesn't necessarily have to be a race track but it helps. You'll need some like minded people to help you. You are welcome to PM me if you want. Linda
  23. If you didn't see it in the heading, Whippet Racing in Victoria is on again! Yes we are having our first meeting of the year at Healesville greyhound track (Mel ref 278 H5) on Sunday Feb 17th. commencing 11.30am approx we will most likely start with the members competition and have fun runs for both members and non members in between the competition heats. There's always a barbeque and cold drinks for sale as well as free tea and coffee and a raffle with doggy (sometimes whippet specific) prizes. Our days have become pretty popular, they are relaxed friendly and most people and whippets go home tired and happy. If you haven't yet come along please do. You dont have to be a member to come along and have some fun runs. We'd love to see you. And bring your camera!! For enquiries please email yvwrc at hotmail dot com (replace at with @ and dot with . and leave out the spaces) Linda
  24. You can wind the strap once around her collar, she wont get it off then if her collar isn't too loose Linda
  25. I think you should get a vets advice on this, I dont know what it is. I've had mainly bitches, some speyed, some not, but I've not seen anything like you describe on any of mine. Linda
