What about contacting greyhound trainers and seeing who they use.
-
Aha! you've reminded me of a bloke I know who had a deerhound with similar problems. He too had to have an operation and also had to be desexed, he is fine now, I hope the outcome is the same for your boy.
-
it's strange that two of you have said desexing will solve the problem because Oscar is already desexed. He's not a horny type dog either, he doesn't hump dogs very often. Anyway I will get my friend to read what's been said here and I think she will probably consider an op for poor Oscar.
-
Aha! thankyou, this is exactly what I thought needs to be done. It makes sense So it has an official name. I cant help wondering if it's not to do with early neutering, because he wasn't fully developed before getting the chop. I dont know though for sure, it's just my suspicion.
-
circumcision is sort of what I suspect he needs, well not exactly, I think the opening needs to be made bigger but I just dont know if that's something vets do to dogs.
-
gee, maybe it's a rare problem, I've never seen or heard of it being a problem for dogs before and by the lack of response here I think perhaps it really is. I thought with so many people reading this forum I might get some other similar stories. I will suggest she definitely talk to a vet about it anyway and report back here with the results, for all those doggys too shy to fess up that they too suffer with it.
-
gee, you must be sick with worry yourself. I hope he's much improved this morning.
-
OH dear, poor Oscar, I hope he's not going to become the subject of jokes It's a good thing he cant read. The cold water didn't work, I was sure it would but nothing was going to stop the poor boy last night, only the gentle intervention of a (lady) vet.

My Kibah eats moths, huntsmen and those big fat crunchy beetles all with no obvious affect so I hope they're not dangerous.

This is a bit saucy but not intentionally, if there's somewhere I can ask then it's here. Oscar keeps getting erections but they often cant go down and last night he needed emergency veterinary attention. the background: Oscar was bred by me and sold at 10 weeks, I am now friends with his mum so we see alot of each other He was neutered at about 5 months old I think and has the typical small penis and sheath that dogs seem to have when they've been neutered before puberty. He often gets these raging erections where the fully exposed glans swells so that it seems to have trouble going down again, made worse by him licking it because it hurts him. It happened last night and just wouldn't/couldn't go down and my friend first tried running cool water on it without success so had to take him to the emergency vet! He eventually had it manipulated back with a bit of KY. I think the problem is the opening in his sheath is small and once he gets his erection it's a bit like a band around it trapping the blood. I suspect it's potentially dangerous for him and I wonder if he needs surgery to open the sheath a bit. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing being required? and here's the sexy fellow himself in my siggy. might have to call him Priapus from now on.

sounds like you have a kind and compassionate vet. I am sorry to hear Rambo didn't make it. I hope Detroit continues to improve. Ones worst nightmare, snakebite.
-
aah no, it's never too basic for me. thanks for the explanation.
-
I notice alot of you who get fantastic results with your cameras use a high ISO even on sunny days. I thought you needed a higher ISO when the weather is dull. Can someone explain to me, I dont get it.

I suppose I will echo what others have said. I've had whippets and a cat together in the past and they were fine, but I had the cat first and got the whippets as puppies. My dear Pumpkin (cat) has long since died and these current whippets haven't grown up with cats. I know they would kill one if they got the chance so no more pussycats for me anymore, as long as I have these current whippets. I think you need to introduce them as puppies, an adult whippet who hasn't grown up with cats could be alot more difficult.

clicking mad, think about going over to Flickr, I bet your pics will look alot sharper, more like they look to you on your own computer pics file. Perhaps others sites are good too, I dont know but I've recently changed from photobucket to flickr. Have a look at the two pics here and see the difference. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...150626&st=0

I am a spider phobe but even I was upset when watching Swift and Sure or whatever that new SBS show is (made by the ones who made Fat Pizza) when a woman killed a golden orb spider, they showed it squashed!!

I've just been looking at this site. I haven't spent alot of time there cause the dogs are telling me to get off my tail and walk them but I will come back for a good read. the bit I've seen is great. thanks Tahna

I dont recall this but it might be my project for today, once I get back from work. I dont have a tripod but I'll work something out. thanks

sigh, I am so confused the settings are much the same as I had mine on for my eagles and the weather conditions looked similar, the differences are kit lens, I set WB to cloudy, and ME I suppose the eagles could've been further away too, but even so................ I am reluctant to go buying more expensive lenses until I gain a good understanding of what I am doing. And how do I even know how much is due to the limtations of the equipment I have or my inexperience? could an experienced photographer have gotten better pics with my camera? Probably....maybe. It's so frustrating, I think I stuffed up an amazing opportunity to get those eagles yesterday. Now, where's that wrist slashing emoticon.

beautiful beautiful pics Ripley. the osprey one is especially interesting to me as it looks like it was similar conditions to my eagle one this morning exept you were much more successful. Can you tell me what the setting were for that one so I might have a chance of gettting it right should it happen again here.

I dont have photoshop so I've just cropped one and tried to sharpen and adjust to colour a bit

Just as I was typing my last reply about white balance I got my camera out and set in on there just to see if I knew where to find it. As I was mucking about I heard the maggies all yelling and went to look. sure enough the eagles are back so I raced inside and grabbed my camera which was still on cloudy. I dont know if it was right for these but this is what I got, these are only a few minutes old just as they are straight from the camera, no cropping. I dont know if I could've got better definition if I'd know how to set the camera. I have to get ready for work now so anyone is welcome to play around with them if you want. AE TV 1/4000 AV 5.00 ISO 200 200mm WB cloudy
-
Just set your white balance to cloudy. BTW - If by warmth, you mean color temp - nice warm, orange tones...this is predominantly controlled by white balance (or in post processing). Technically, midday sun is cool (blue), sunrise and sunset are warm (orange). In shade also tends to be cool (blue) as well. In the old days, you would have popped a warming filter on the lens (an orange filter) to make the tones nice and warm - nowadays you just change the white balance. so if I'd done that yesterday would my photos have come out looking warmer? It never occurred to me. I hadn't got as far as thinking about white balance. I am obviously not using a thumbnails worth of what this camera can actually do gee I look forward to the day I can really bring out the best in it.

I'm working today but I hope you do so I can learn something.
