this sounds absolutely heartbreaking. My whippet Penny was diagnosed with anal furunculosis when she was a puppy, but if this is what it is then she was misdiagnosed, and it sounds like it was a good thing. She seemed to have an ulcerated patch on her anus which cleared up with anitbiots, and maybe cream, I cant remember now, but thankfully it wasn't an ongoing problem.

He hasn't replied to my question as to whether he accepts Paypal. If I thought it was safe I probably would be tempted by these, they sure a cheap but I think they're too risky.

Yeah a few things about this set off alarm bells for me although it might just be a real bargain, who knows. I also decided to report him for saying bank deposit only although it was rather hard cause they only give you certain options and none really covered what he was doing. I doubt I will hear back from him before the auction ends.

I've asked if he accepts paypal, I am not in the market to buy, just curious.

Yep, discontinued but as I have mentioned a few times I believe there's still one at JB hi fi in Eastland. ring first and check price, I was told $949 with the kit lenses, I think I paid just under $1100 for mine about 9 months ago. It was still there yesterday afternoon, on the bottom shelf in the cabinet, still in its torn box. I can imagine it would've been horrendous there today, the crowds ugh!

I checked jb in Eastland again yesterday, that 400d is still there and so is another with just a single lens for about $740ish from memory, I didn't write it down but it was cheaper than the 1000d which I think is a lesser model. someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Yep, this is what I was trying to do. I've customised my camera so I focus with * button now. I kept touching it and it would light up and I'd try to take the pic but I must've been off a bit because when I got them onto my computer and checked the "show auto focus points" most times they were black. Only a couple of pics showed up in red.

Well, I went back, I sat closer and in the shade this time. I wasn't able to get as many pics because there was a wild eagle flying around, probably one of the pair I photographed a couple of months ago above my place with the ibis chick. It's hard to compare because I think most of these are overexposed, perhaps ISO 400 was too much but I took the advice and tried it. Not complaining, I still want advice. I did get a couple of pretty sharp pics though. Here's the Black Breasted Buzzard, no sharpening, nothing, just as it is from the camera. I also used the * button and none of them showed the little red centre focus point even though I was pressing it constantly, I might need more practice there. Oh yeah, these are from photobucket which is never as clear and sharp as my computer or Flickr, so they look better on my computer. how much did you want to spend cause I've mentioned several times about the brand new 400D at jb hifi in Ringwood. It might still be there.

OK, I am going back today, I've changed my camera so I can use the * button and I will increase the ISO and try F8 or higher and see what happens. I will report back if I haven't had a hissy fit and jumped on the camera. Of course I would make sure it wasn't wearing it's 50mm 1.4 if I do that.

are you covered by insurance? you might be able to claim it. I've just increased my insurance to cover theft or damage inside the home and away.

How exciting, I was way too impatient to buy mine online. Once I decided I wanted it I had to have it that very day!!! Make sure you post your pics here. there's so many really experienced photographers here, you'll get lots of valuable advice, and encouragement! congrats hope it comes soon.

I cant help you much here as I too am only learning. I think the 50mm 1.4 and 1.8 that Ashanali was talking about are the Canon lenses which wont fit on your Nikon. Nikon might make a similar one but the reason lots of Canon people like the 1.8 is that it is very cheap for a sharp lens, it's often referred to as the 'nifty fifty' I dont know if Nikon have one like that. The other thing I would say it to try out your lens as others have told me to do. Oh and post some pics!! Successes and failures! I do.

I still have my doubts about this lens because of where I was focused and where it came out focused.....two different places. I did have it on AI Servo but I will take note of what you've all said and try to get back there for a repeat performance. this forum is invaluable thanks all.
