  1. I'm not a breeder. I have one purebred dog who was bought as a pet from a breeder who uses their dogs for work and does occasionally show. She is a gorgeous example of the breed, in my opinion, and others, and I couldn't have cared less if they didn't show. I totally agree with the above post. I see what people are saying about having some comparison but don't think it's fair to lump all breeders who don't or can't show into the same basket.
  2. Both of mine talk Lili is a grumbler, she does the same as Emmy, grumbles when she's settling down, grumbles when she plays, she is also very vocal when playfighting with Mosley. Mo however, makes a different sound, kind of like the sound Huskys make, it's a woooo-wooooo and if you do it back to him he answers I get to the door of a night with him wooo-wooooing at me with a shoe in his mouth and his butt wagging madle....hilarious
  3. From your post you sound like an intelligent, sensible dog owner. I think you will be absolutely fine. It's so hard to know whether you will have a problem or not when they're so young. Maybe when you choose your next breed do lots of research into the temperament of the dog you want to get, then you'll feel more ready, plus you always have DOL!
  4. Thanks Crisovar, having a browse now :p
  5. Do you know the names of any of the rescue places please? We'd definitely be interested in having a look! Off to google them now :D
  6. Thanks GM, I thought it might be. I've found a few SBT breeders who look pretty good so I'll be researching them for the next while Thanks everyone for the tips
  7. I once had a guy tell me proudly that his dog, which I had thought was a Schnauzer cross, was a first generation Labradoodle...riiight..
  8. I have two dogs, one is purebred, the other a pound pup. And yes, I get told that I shoudn't have bought a pedigree dog as there are so many in shelters looking for homes. I ignore it. I couldn't give a sh*t what other people think as a vast majority of them are idiots  Ignore them, and remind your daughter that Dory is the most special dog in the world, becasue I'm sure that's how she sees it
  9. I thought that might have been the case, what a shame! Thanks Sandra777
  10. Yes, at first we were going to look for an Amstaff, but there are no breeders or pups at all! Looks like it will be a staffy
  11. Thanks for that becks. Exactly what I was looking for Don't ask me why I couldnt find it Ta
  12. Just so we're all clear on this. I would NEVER buy someone a puppy as a surprise. She has asked us to help her find a puppy. I was having trouble finding a good list of breeders in the net and we just talked about taking one over. We weren't even sure if it was possible. Its definitely not something we have decided on. Just an option we were exploring. As I said in the OP, I don't like the idea but was just interested to know if people had done it. Thanks for the suggestions
  13. I'm offended someone would even ask that. I work in an animal shelter, so trust me, I know all too well how many animals are dumped every day and bought as "gifts". His Mum has asked us to help her with finding her a puppy, it's the same breed as the last dog.
  14. Mine is the Aussie Beautiful, clever, quick, agile.....those wigglebums?! How could one resist OH loves staffys and amstaffs and one of those will be our next dog. Neither of us even knew much about Anatolian Shepherds when we got our rescue boy, but we're impresssed every day but how gentle and funny he is
  15. We are looking at going back to Ireland to visit OH's family round the end of the year, probably November, and want to buy a puppy for his Mum. OH's dog stayed with his parents when he came over here and he recently died and his Mum really misses having him. I've looked around for breeders in the UK and really haven't come up with much. Then we started talking about buying a puppy here and flying it over with us. I don't like the idea too much, I get upset thinking of a baby puppy flying for so long on his own....but then I'm a sook Has anyone done this? Would a puppy cope ok? Breed will be either SBT or Amstaff. Thanks
  16. He was one of the new bull breeds not sure how specific I can be under the forum rules That's ok, sorry you lost your pup
  17. Wow, being in Vic I can't believe some states only hold for 72 hours!? I hope it stays at 8 days here
  18. Thanks for the info guys! When I look at Lilis teeth against my boys (only 6 months younger) hers are much more visibly worn down. I'll be changing to a rubber ball on the weekend
  19. Noone's complaining about children and parents who do the right thing
  20. Very true, we've had more than one ask us if we docked Lilis tail, we've had to tell them that's how she was born
  21. Am I correct in saying that if you get a dog de-barked and you are in victoria (once you've jumped through all the hurdles), you cant show it? I have no idea how all the breeders in Vic with 'talkative' breeds cope. No you can show it if you have jumped through all of the hoops. But even if you try to dodge it and cut across a border where regs are not as tough - if the dog has ever lived in Victoria before the op you cant show it. How would the judges know if the dog was debarked ??? The judges dont care. Its the state law not anything to do with Vic Dogs - The RSPCA investigate and raid you. The charge is cruelty to animals. Amazing. You alter your dog, under anaesthetic, in order to give it and everyone around you a good life and you're done for animal cruelty....report animal cruelty (real animal cruelty) to the RSPCA and you'd be lucky to even get anyone round there to have a look. Think they need to get their priorities sorted out
  22. Yeah I'll have to do a bit of research and see what I can find! ETA: The iSqueak looks good
