  1. Thanks again guys for your concern. We went to the vets and saw our regular vet, Dr Robbie. He knows my girls very well. When we went in the first thing he said to me "What has she eaten that she shouldn't have?" He said it with a smile and I had to giggle. I told him about the sofa and he couldn't help himself, he laughed. He gave her a really good look over and the whole time he was whispering in her ear that she's a very naughty and cheeky little girl but that it was ok because she's such a lovely puppy! Yeah right I thought. Anyway he cleared her and said she was fine. He gave Jodie and Jesie both a pigs ear and instructed them that they need to chew on the ear and not the sofa. She didn't throw up again yesterday which was good and she seems fine. Chasing my poor cats and annoying her big sister, Jesie I tell you she does these things just to make me worry about her! Looks like the new sofa I was getting at the end of the year is on hold! Bloody beagles!
  2. This sounds like a good idea...I will try this and see how we go. How long did it take before she was consistently on a loose lead? Not sure exactly on the time frame but maybe a week of doing it? She will still pull to get out of the house when her lead is on but once we're off she's pretty good now. I'm finding that she only really pulls when she gets a scent (she's a beagle) and then I do the direction thing and she forgets about it. Before though she just pulled like a freight train the whole time!

    Digging ?

Ohhhh poochmad I'm stealing your idea! We have one clam shell for hot days (Jesie loves water) so I might buy another to put sand in. Thanks!
  4. I've started doing the change direction thing aswell and am getting really good results. Everytime Jodie pulls I say her name at the same time as turning in the opposite direction. After about 7 direction changes she picked up that she wasn't going very far and started to walk nice. I think it will take some time for her to get the idea completely but its a great start.
  5. Thanks guys. She threw up again after I posted last night. I kept her quiet and kept an eagle eye on her. OH told me this morning that when he got home from work yesterday she had attacked the foam from the sofa yesterday and eaten some of it (she's ripped the seat cushion apart, Grrrrrr). The sofa is a million years old so the foam is probly full of chemicals. Idiot dog! I have a vet appointment today at 10:30am to get her checked over just in case. This bloody dog will eat anything!!!!
  6. Hi guys, Need some advice please. My 10 month old Beagle X, Jodie has throwm up twice in the last 45 minutes. She's not normally a spewer and I'm not sure if I am worrying for nothing. It seems like she has thrown up everything she has eaten today. She's still drinking and playing. Should I call the emergency vet? Am I a worry wart? Please help!
  7. Both mine get two meals a day. Their ages are 15 months and 10 months. They get dry food in the mornings with a little bit of natural yoghurt and chicken necks & mashed up vegies for dinner.
  8. OK so I actually hadn't heard of this site and I've just checked it out. You horrible people! OH is already threatening to leave if i buy any more dog toys. Oh dear, what to do?
  9. I tried the raw thing and my two were not interested at all. One of my doggies is a beagle so to not be interested in food was a huge thing for her. I now give them kibble in the mornings and veg, cooked thigh fillets and chicken necks for dinner. they are both doing really well on this diet. Each Sunday they both get a massive lamb shank (no dinner) and love it.
  10. I call Jesie my ADHD doggie! My house is NEVER quiet and I love it! When Jesie turned 9 months she calmed down the tiniest bit and I was devastated! Glad I'm not the only one in the crazy club!
  11. Yeah Jodie started off really quiet but as her confidence grows so does her mentalness! Even my two cats are mental! My Oh is really quiet aswell. He so doesn't fit in! Who could live without their mental doggies? Not me!
  12. My mental doggie suits me. All my family tell me that she would be less excitable if I was less excitable! They are so right but I'm never going to change so I guess Jesie will never change either. The worst part of it is I'm starting to inflict my craziness on my poor puppy Jodie aswell!
  13. Not a chance she's going on drugs to calm her down! The vet I saw was the guy who runs the clinic! I'll be much happier when my vet comes back from the fires. He's been dealing with Jesie since we got her and he knows exactly what she's like. He would never suggest anything to calm her down.
  14. Nope she was actually really well behaved. He saw us come in the surgery and she knows the vet nurse as last year we saw her alot unfortunately. So she was excited to see her. Jesie wagged her tail like a demon and pulled me over to say hello and then Jesie and the vet nurse were all over each other with cuddles and kisses. That's how Jesie greets all the people she likes.
  15. So I take my 15 month old English Cocker Spaniel, Jesie to the vet this morning. She had smelly ears and I had run out of the stuff I use to clean them. I had made an appointment because I thought I might aswell get the vet to check her ears over and make sure they were ok. Turns out my vet is on holiday (he's actually helping with the bushfires) so I saw the owner of the surgery. What a dong head! Jesie is a very active dog and I mean VERY. She always has been and I never want to change that, its what I love about her. Anyway vet checks her ears tells me they are ok and gets me the ointment I need. He then proceeds to tell me that she is hyper active and should be on medication to calm her down. I tell him that she's fine and I like her as she is. She isn't a bother to anyone. He starts lecturing me that she is too hyper and I can not be happy with her the way she is. He then says "I really dont want to have to say I told you so when you send her to the pound becuase you cant cope anymore". What the hell? I was bloody furious! Luckily the vet nurse (thank god) was there who knows me and my doggies. She pretty much told this vet to shut up but in a nice way. What right did this guy have to tell me that I need to change my dogs personality? When I walked out to pay, the vet nurse said only pay for the ointment, consultation is free seeing as you had to put up with that idiot! Had to laugh at her. I'll be making sure I dont see him again.
  16. Stupid question but there is aboviously an age restriction on the dogs? Can someone let me know what the restriction is? My MIL and myself have been thinking about doing the ET.
  17. I use crystal eye for my cocker when they get a bit yucky. Not very often now though she's older. The vet did give me an ointment though when she forst got it
  18. My cocker occassionally gets these on her belly. She used to get them when the goomer used to shave her underarms (she doesn't anymore), she gets them from certain doggy shampoo's (i know use aloveen), if she's been to the beach more than twice in a week or if she's been rolling in freshly cut grass. She has very sensitive skin. Definately go to the vet though. Good luck
  19. If its anything like my dog club then puppy classes are spent doing about 15 mins (over the 45 min class) of actual training and the rest of the class is spent teaching the handler how to train their dog, talking about any problems and socialising. I found it really good for both my girls, especially for the socialisation. We have friends from our puppy classes that have come with us through to the higher class and its always good to see them each week.
  20. Hey! Thanks so much for the advice. Silly question but how do you growl specifically? Do you growl like a dog would? I must practice this! Growl like a dog. First time I did it i felt like a real goose! But you get over it. My cocker figured it out pretty quickly. My beagle on the other hand?
  21. Welcome to the wonderful world of cockers! Can we have some pictures please? Cockers are very much a human dog, they love nothing more than to be with their human families. We also work full time and stressed when we had to go back to work and leave our little girl. I had my sister come round a couple of times a day to check on her while she was young. When she got a little older we realised that she was very lonely when we were at work so we got her a puppy! Casper will want to be with you as most cockers do. Bringing him in now as Dogon susgests is the best idea as you can train him from word go about the house rules. Leaving it until later will make training for inside alot harder. Any chance you can put his crate next to your bed a night time? He will feel much happier and sleep better, aswell as you. Join us in the cocker pages. And again dont forget pictures!
  22. I was quoted $250 - $300 by 4 different vets in south east vic
