  1. Many good breeds have been ruined by SOME handlers/owners who advertise with themselves as the main feature But lets hope that judges can see through all the crap that is printed & if you really look at the dog & read the standard all will come clear, breeding to me is not the person who can do the most shows or gain the most points or use an impoted dog, that way the breed itself never improves, stick with your ethic. (Some people have none) I feel a little sorry for those that get ripped off buying a Pup thinking they are going out to win with a dog from these people, they just believe all the crap these people advertise In fact I know of one lady buying a pup because these breeders told them they had the best and it was dead in 24 hours after arriving......the puppy was very sick in deed...
  2. Yes everyone can have there say and all is fair in war, love and dog show, I say As a person that has been involved with a few different dog sports over the years, Showing is not for every one either is Hearding or Obedience or what ever your choice.... OR heaven help me, your age.......now my breed of choice is the Pug, not great at heading really but then I have never tried So yes all have you say by all means but I think you have to take into account breed preference......
  3. :D Holbrook.....can not remember alot.. Group 1 Pap RUIG Cav Group 2 Cairn Group 3 Cocker Group 4 Group 5 Sheltie (also BIS) Group 6 Group 7 Jap Spitz's I think these are right but I am sure someone can fill in the details better than I..... ;)
  4. Take my hat off to you Graham, if not for people like you there would not be any shows up there , here in NSW /Vic, can do a show every w/e and during the weeks if they wish to, our entry costs are getting higher & some of the judges are locals...... Keep up the great effort...
  5. :D These days , my friend, have long gone, alot of exhibitors now think it is there whole being "WINNING" it makes them think they are important, for what, puppy sales is all I can think of...... I remember these days in fact , with in, my breed there is a bunch of us that still do, as this is a hobby and should be a social event and we are happy for the breed not the deed..... I had a person very nasty because I let my baby puppy play up in the in show line up, I told her I have 2 sheep stations why would I want a 3rd........they tutted and walked off, silly goat There has been many reasons stated and I guess like alot of things we can not get the good old days back, Cost, Judging, spiteful exhibitors, families, Canine bodies etc add to the numbers falling....Wonder how long these little shows can hang on even the Royal numbers are down.......but then again there is nothing better than your dog at your side no matter what you are doing... ;)
  6. When ever I have entered Sunbury I have always picked up my numbers on the day.....
  7. Sorry I do not believe there is only one perfect dog that wins all the time, I have seen many many dogs that are worth a win every week......JMO What about if the baby puppy entry be a little less as alot of breeders run on a couple of pups to see how things are working out this could make it a little easier....or should it be Cash & Sash to help with the costs a little.....??
  8. Yes GayleK There are some beautiful dogs out there, BUT , wouldn't you think that one beautiful dog out of a line up is the only that can win ???? I have seen some outstanding group line up's in ALL groups and the judge has a terrible time because they are after all the Best of there breeds out there. I will agree there are dogs that win everywhere but I would have thought that maybe advertising & handling may help just a winny bit......another thing a lot of people can not afford to do, is have there dog /face posted in every mag you would like to pick up..... Just a thought !!!
  9. Thankyou everyone for getting involved in this topic, seems we have alot of points of view.. As I read with interest one that keeps coming up is C O S T !!!! I know this is not a cheap sport with the rising cost of not only your membership to Canine bodies, to show entries, cost of petrol & Accommodation.......the price of a decent pup for showing can be way over the top (when many cash in on this & not sell these "Newbies" show quality pups..... Face judging has always been there but I feel it is more blatant now or do these judges just do not care either?? Still this is my hobby, I enjoy it, I do not spend huge amounts of money on travel, I only show in my area under certain judges and maybe only do 1 day instead of 2 as yes I have other things to do......but others maybe out every w/e week day travelling around like the Leyland Brothers, rain, hail, snow or shine.....breeding batch after batch of puppies, I feel it is some of these people that have made a fair mess of this sport and breeds. BUT who is ACCOUNTABLE ...the people themselves or the controlling bodies????
  10. Huntia I watch cattle judging a few time , yes the judge is held accountable as they MUST give a critque of the beast, not just a I liked this one better, Right down to the size of it testicles I understand that with the number of dogs they judge this would be alittle hard, BUT I would like to state most of the people showing their breed know more about the breed than the judges do, I have never moaned about being beaten by a better dog that is what it is all about (Improving the breed) .... We can see so many of the breeds being ruined & that is sad....
  11. :D Yes Dellcara I am at the same stage.....but never have been a die hard show at all cost......
  12. Did you see and hear this yourself, and if so, did you tell the committee or the show rep? Just to add a tiny spanner in the works, what is going to happen if this is reported, I have been involved in a, lets say a altercation, where members have posted the $150.00 and out come has been nothing !! humm Wonder why some do not report it ?????
  13. Totally agree GayleK.... I opted out of the show ring for many years and did Obedience (& loved It) There was not the cost as in the show scene either..... In my area alone we have lost so many shows, closing down (mainly Ag's) but there is always a Kennel Club that offers lots of other ways to go with your dog....
  14. This is going well we all seem to be on the same pages of the book... Just another aspect came to me via aPM is the fact the judge was simply not intersted in there dog at all, stated was "I think I must of only paid half price." other was "My young daughter didn't even get back into the ring for class and the judge had given the ribbon to the front person." Now I can see why this would turn the young one's off the scene, I am not saying they should win but at least give them a go and encourage them to keep it up... I stewarded for a judge and a young boy was showing his breed, no he didn't win but the judge took the time to talk to him and encouraged him to keep going....this little lad is now showing every week and with a big smile on his face So although there is many problems here, maybe the biggest one starts with Canine Councils ?????
  15. Some very interesting points have been made.... Would some people agree that if the JUDGE being an ALL BREEDS, should have a refresher on the groups after a certain amount of time after all no-one can remember all the breed standards, this would be impossible, I do know some judges go over the standards the night before.......a lot don't. Rising cost of petrol, accommodation etc would come into it, but would some people have to travel a number of hours to be at certain shows if they could not afford it.......I have known some to travel 6 - 8 hours on a regular basis..... So should they win just for the distance they have travelled.......certainly not !!!!But some judges seem to think so.. The good old days, seem to have gone, many I have been showing with for a number of years are all talking about getting out now......SHAME SHAME SHAME.......
  16. Why do you think numbers are dropping off in the rings... I have heard avary of reasons.... Face judging at an all time high??? People getting sold crap not good enough for the ring??? Nasty other exhibitors??? Just not enjoyable ???? Come out open up and let us know your thoughts..........I have been involved with dogs all my life I have seen it , heard it & been aware of it..........tell what you think IT is..... AS I am thinking of giving it up myself....
