Thanks Ozjen - I feel alot younger now They were after Briard, Bergamasco and Bouvier des Flandres as well as the Dingo!! Maybe theyre just after a 'rare' dog I dunno??? I dont think Ive heard of Bergamascos in Australia tho.. I agree about the dingo, beautiful animals but not for the average joe public I dont think! A work mate had one from up north and she was a gorgeous girl, and he was the right kind of person to have one, but I wouldnt even go there! I have enough trouble with the ridgy :p :p Mirawee - yes a pony patting party at your place sounds fun Rat I bet you do wish I could say the same. I think there might be some Brairds around (interstate) and there was a litter of 10 Bouviers born recently in WA, 4 boys and 6 girls. Can't say I've seen any Bergamscos though.

I wanted to change my name to my prefix once i got it but i love my name too much now and don'twant to change it!! I use it on other forums as well (mostly dog forums though!) and i have used my prefix on one forum but can't get used to it!! i love your new siggy!! very arty Love the horse pics mirawee! does anyone know anywhere in perth that you can take herding breeds just to see what they can do? I thought about doinng it with the OES as he tends to like to round up stuff and thought it might be fun for him... but i don't know where to start looking... we got about 10 minutes of fat rain on Saturday afternoon... right after the massive stormwhich caused a small fire close by. at the time i was outsidein a puddle of water bathing a sopping wet Old English... I love storms but that one was MUCH too close for comfort. It frightened Charlie, and it freaked out poor Ari for about an hour. Anyway, waiting out the storm put us back about half an hour and I didn't get charlie to the show on Saturday night which sucked... i can't wait for our next show!! Steph Gibson does herding classes out at Mandurah, we've been a couple of times and so has Mirrawee and it is our dogs only experience with sheep. Also I believe there is a guy in the hills that does classes, Mirrawee would probabaly know more. Some of the dogs you least expect to be naturals with sheep turn out to be the best ones.

In a dog forum? OK... The palomino is my yearling Quarter Horse x Thoroughbred gelding, Xavi, who is unfortunately for sale since I have two Anglo Arab yearling fillies who are keepers And yes I do cross breed horses :p But they are all bred for performance/showing The naughty foal is Aeryn who is jumping on her mother Abbey... took that shot today as well and if you want horsey photos I figure you will enjoy it :p Abbey is a Holsteiner and Aeryn's dad is a KWPN warmblood... hopefully she will be a brilliant showjumper when older! Wow, didn't realise that was Xavi, gee he certainly developed rich colour,I thought he would be more Diva's colour, he's lovely. That's not to say Diva isn't.

Yep, that sounds good. Just got to watch those youngsters that give lovebites, not mentioning any names.

Have you shown Jenna that whip?? We have a trial on Friday night remember Hope you have been working her hard since you got home from holidays :p The obedience in Vic Park is at Raphael Park (Or Rafael I can never remember how to spell it ) And it was way too hot today It was only meant to be around 30C! However I did manage to wash one of my yearling horses for the first time and take some nice photos of him Well we did take the girls to the beach for a good run and play but can't say they were overly keen to be active and I've run Jenna through the weavers and a few jumps, but she did act as though she had just run an endurence test and decided to hug the water dish instead. Will keep up the short sessions though even if I have to throw her over the jumps :p . In this weather she prefers air conditioned comfort, Fingers are crossed for a cool change on Friday and a well behaved dog.

Hi Oh no I think I am the oldest!!!!!! *******Goes looking for grey hairs............................ Nope, sorry to say but I go alot further back than that and have the grey hairs to prove it. But I have Mirawee who is good enough to run my dog in agility and jumping while I watch. :p :p Looks like its you'n'me ozjen - so when did you leave school??? Oh how I wish I had graduated somewhere around 1990...something!! Oh well, good thing Im quite immature We got about 1mm rain - not good enough really, Im sooooooooooooooooo sick of the heat, the humidity and no rain! I think our dogs handle it better than me! We dont have aircon, but quite a well designed house re heating and cooling, but this last two weeks have just been yuck! Does anyone else here read the Quokka from cover to cover?? I found a few "strange" ads in the pet section, 'wanted' bit last night - someone looking for very rare, dont even think there are any in Aus, dogs. All herding breeds too............Oh and a dingo! I sometimes get a bit sad reading the ads though, there are soo many kittens it breaks my heart - why oh why cant people desex????? And I wont even go there with people looking for X dog to breed with their Y dog, who is oh so cute Pulease! Anyway, Im on RDOs now - dont go back to work til Thursday, yay!! Sleep ins and playing with my girls. Fencing and stuff as well, to keep our small smart-alec lamington out of the horse yard! Rat Well without giving too much away I was married in 1979 but still young at heart if not in body. I'm an avid Quokka fan but like you I sometimes feel sad at the number of designer breeds being rehomed with their first litter when people realise that their pups don't sell as well as the high priced petshop ones. What herding breeds were people looking for? I haven't bought a Quokka for a while. Dingoes are occassionally available but they do have very special needs. Personally as much as I love Dingoes I think it is a shame that they are available to the public as so many people aready have problems catering to their domestic dogs and cats.

I'm with you there, as each passes to Rainbow bridge over the years they have taken a part of me with them and my heartdog who is with me now will take the biggest chunk of me. The pain is a small price to pay though for the many years of love and joy we get from having them in our lives. -

From what I've seen they are not cheap, try looking under "Kickbike" on Ebay.

Who in their right minds would leave small children alone with a dog especially one new to the household. Perhaps the headlines should read "Stupid Parents Strike Again". All to often the dog gets the blame and often it is not that a dog is savage but a victim of circumstances. If the dog bowled over the child while he had the toy he probabaly put his hand up to his face while he was crying(still holding the toy) and the dog has tried to grab the toy and got the poor childs nose into the bargin. If the dog was indeed savage then I don't think a 4 year old would have stopped it. Poor dog no doubt has paid the price with a death sentence.

Are you sure? I don't mind taking Gizzy of your hands :D You would think of all the councils CoGosnells would be the most understanding when it comes to dogs because the CAWA grounds are in CoG, so of course there are going to be a lot of people in the area involved in dog activities. :D Now you know I wouldn't part with my Gizzy boy but you are welcome to plenty of Gizzy hugs at the DOL meets as long as I can get Trixie hugs. Gee, she is starting to look so grownup in you signature photo. Roll on cooler weather and another DOL meet.

I am on a Yahoo list called "Healthy Aussies" which is more into holistic and natural treatment and feeding and they swear by it as being very good. I actually find Apple Cider Vinegar in my dogs diet as well as mixed with water and sprayed on the coat a great flea deterrent and haven't had an issue for years with fleas, it also stops alot of other summer bities like flies on the ears. I always have a big bottle of it as it has so many great uses, for both human and animals.

I had the Gosnells ranger on my dooorstep the day my pups turned three months (Sunday). As I told him, I was doing the responsiable thing my pups would only be released to homes that signed a spay/neuter contract, I microchipped my pups and the ones I still had were getting their three month needle on the Monday and would then be picked up by their new owners. I still recieved a warning notice that all had to be gone within ten days. These pups were not causing any issues, most of the time they were inside, someone had looking over the fence and decided I had too many dogs. I still had one after the 10 days but no one came to check although it did cause me alot of stress as I wasn't going to release him to just anyone to get my numbers to councils approval. I had already knocked back a number of people who had enquired after pups and wasn't going to be forced into putting him into just any home. I only breed occassonally, I am looking at breeding another litter after three years without one as I am still hoping for a nice show pup for myself and want something to continue with the line I have so there is no point in having a kennel property. I hate the two dog rule especially when we are people who are involved in so many dog activities and our dogs aren't just left ignored in the backyard. Perhaps our canine council should push for some leniancy for canine members who are invoved in activities with their dogs as they are always wanting to promote membership. Unfortunately our dogs get too old or have already reached the limit of their acheivements and in order for us to continue our activities we need new blood, but that doesn't mean that we want to get rid of our old mates to make room for the new.

Don't use pool grade or you will kill your animals it has to be human grade. I haven't ever shopped for it but have read alot about it and the benefits (ie flea/tick and worm control) as it is widely used overseas by those that don't like using poisons on their dogs. They usually get it from health food shops so you might want to try there. If you do find somewhere here that has the human grade I'd be interested to find out as I've never enquired about it here.

Unfortunately whatever we do with our dogs someone can miss understand and consider it cruel, I have a video on YOutube of my dog throwing a tantrum (well voicing her opinion and acting up about not being allowed in the kitchen) and I get the odd comment of how cruel I am and that I should not own a dog. The first time it really hurt as I love my furkids with a passion and did not consider filming her behaviour to be cruel nor laying down the law to her as to not being in the kitchen. Now if those sort of comments crop up I just consider that they have come from people that have misunderstood the intention of the video and don't know the relationship I share with my dog. Most people especially those that have experience with the breed can relate to it and enjoy seeing the dog try to outsmart me. Many of us dress our pets up for their Christmas photos and while they give us those looks of "Awe not again" they are not running away and hiding under the bed so I don't think they really mind it that much. Your little dog looks so cute too so I'm sure he/she didn't really mind it for a short time.

They are a lovely breed but can be a problem with other pets especially smaller ones. They are not hard to train but do have an air of "well if it suits me to do it I will". I had one for about 15 months but ended up rehoming her as she caused too many issues with the other household pets the last straw being when she tore open my old Papillon's shoulder in an unprevoked attack. She was a lovely girl when it came to people and always got so excited to see her breeder. While I miss her I don't miss the upsets she would cause with the other furkids and to keep her she would have spent her life separated from the rest of the household. I like all my pets to be able to live happily together so that they can all be with me when I'm home. After discussion with her breeder she was rehomed to a Shiba breeder just short of her title. While I love the breed I don't think I would risk getting another as all the Shiba books mention that they can be a problem in this regard. This was a concern when I first got her but was hoping that getting her from a pup that it would not be an issue with other family members.

Unfortunately they never think of what will be involved with the coats when they cross all these breeds often with totally different coat types the bi product being cute pups that become a major problem to keep well groomed especially if owners don't keep on top of coat care. Mmm a dog with a tight wool coat with a dog that has a long flowing coat the mind boggles what the result is.

Its great to hear that your dogs breeder will be at the vets with you, obviously cares about the dogs they breed beyond just selling them which means that any advice they are giving you is in the best interest of the dog. Annual heartworm injections can be risky if your dog reacts badly to it there is no way to get it out of the dogs system whereas if your dog reacted badly to a daily heartworm treatment then it can be treated by the vet until it has passed from the dogs system. Many vets still are not very familiar with MDR1 issues in dogs and some dogs have died because of this. Not sure of your breed is it a Rotti? My breed has an issue with MDR1 as do some others but don't know about Rottis. With regard to vaccination many believe that we over vaccinate our pets which leads to bigger issues health wise for them. Try googling Vacciossis (think that is correct spelling) and you may understand better your breeders reluctance. If your dog is not for breeding then by all means desex, but don't expect it to change your dogs personality, how many human fellows that get it done change their nature. You might notice a change in male to male aggressivness provided it hasn't become a bad habit if this is the change you are looking for. If its something like marking then its unlikely to change at this age as it is an established behaviour where training would be more successful. I sterilized a Border Collie X at 7 to 8 years old because he started jumping a 6ft+ fence to visit the sterilised German Shepherd next door, he continued to jump the fence to her even though more often than not he landed on his head doing damage to his ears and teeth. Even while the stitches where in he would jump the now 8ft+ fence. Continuing to make the fence higher didn't help only the bitch moving away. More than two years later he mated with a Papillon bitch I had who I thought was safe to run with him, luckily she suffered no harm (surprising given the size difference) but I learn't a valuable lesson once I recovered from the shock and was reassured by the vet. Sterilized dogs can stilll maintain an interest and mate.

My brother and his family live up there and family members were speaking to him today, he's not worried about it and they have seen many cyclones up there over the years. Just heed any warnings they give as its always better to be safe.

Honey can also work well, when my cat had an injury from a cat fight that looked abit infected I put honey on it and covered it for about half an hour while I kept her distracted with a bit of fussing. Worked a dream and really cleaned up the injury. Have never thought of using epsom salts but will have to add this to my furkids medical box, thanks for the tip.

Barf is only expensive if you buy the pre prepared patties, if you make your own and feed a RMB diet it can work out cheaper than kibbles. Most of mine is bought in the meat department of the supermarket late on a Saturday or Wednesday when they are doing their markdowns. I have a small freezer just for the dogs meat so that I can buy extra when there are good bargins to be had. I feed two dogs (Australian Shepherd and Papilloin) and a cat and I find that feeding them raw they are alot healthier and it is cheaper than kibble. I feed a wide variety of , meat, offal, poultry, fish, eggs, bones, small amounts of fruit, veg and grain etc along with various supplements(mainly for the benefit of the performance/show dog). I also make up a couple of dozen patties at a time to suit the various furkids big ones for the Aussie, little ones for the Pap and ones with more fish in them for the cat (she's not as conviced about BARF feeding). I divide all of my food up into meals before freezing so only need to find some time once or twice a month to organise it and the rest is simple and quicker and cheaper than opening a can of dog food were you are often paying for the water content. When introducing raw introduce one protein at a time to check for any allergies or negative reactions, chicken is usually a good starting point. Allow about 10 days on one protein before introducing another. Once you know your dog handles a variety of proteins then feed a variety through the course of the week to help ensure a balanced diet. Aim for about 2 to 2.5 % of the dogs weight per day depending on dogs level of activity and for % of bones, meat , offal, fruit veg and grain think in terms of them eating a small animal over the space of a week and it will be easier to determine the ratio. Join some of the rawfeeding chat groups to become more familiar with raw feeding, they don't all agree on each others methods, but you will be able to decide which works best for you and your dog.
