Wonderful photos, I hadn't been to a meet for a few months and I was amazed to see so many giant fluffys(Spitzs)

Glenelg to Two Wells isn't even an hours drive, especially if you book the appointment for the middle of the day. Often an ounce of prevention or pre-emptive treatment is much easier on the pocket and ultimitely the heart rather than waiting and seeing what develops

"professional" Dog Walkers Walking Muzzled Dogs...
Robbi replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have just finished reading an article about a young Pit Bull who was savagely attacked and killed in a dog park in the United States, the 10 month old dog was muzzled due to bsl laws and was unable to defend himself when another dog attacked. Dog parks must be treated with caution regardless of how well our dogs behave, there are some dogs that are just being set up for failure by their owners when they are taken to off leash parks in my opinion. My Whippet is a social butterfly at dog parks and he loves the interaction with other dogs but my Bull Arab x is another story, I am her protecter and part of my duty of care to her is not to put her in a postion that will set her up to fail, she is not dog friendly with some dogs and I would never put her or another dog in danger by taking her to a dog park. People should accept their dogs individual natures -
Rehoming High Drive Stafford
Robbi replied to Mavriksbt's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
From a more novice view point than the very experienced trainers/behaviorists that have posted before me I think there are dogs that in all good conscience should never be re-homed. In February I decided to adopt a very beautiful Bull Arab x from Canterbury pound, I have never had experience with a bull breed before and it has literally changed my life. Abbie is not high prey drive but does show a keen interest in my sheep, I have spent a lot of money changing my fencing so that she can never get into my sheep paddocks, she is leash reactive and overly boistrous around small dogs, she eats my house if I dont crate her when I am out and it has taken months to get her to not try and kiss the cat every time he walks past BUT I made the choice( there were no second thoughts) to work through her issues and find solutions that keep her and the other animals safe. When we take on a dog it is up to us to do the best we can for them and not pass on our problems to somebody else if it all goes pear shape. -
Adelaide Secret Santa - Xmas Meet On Dec 5th

Yogi, Abbie and I dont have any dislikes But any dog toys must be Bullie proof or else break in to safe pieces that I can pick up -
I live on 45 acres with dogs and previously on a broad acre farm, there were snakes everywhere then, my dogs are always within my sight when out in the feed sheds etc and any sign of snakes I put them straight back in the house. I always keep one trough overflowing out in the scrub paddock so that snakes dont need to come to the house looking for water, lawns kept short and bushes pruned so that they dont provide hiding spots for our slithery friends. Vigilance helps with snakes but it is a constant threat.

Great story, I applaud people risking the wrath of the Iranian state to own a dog and have it as part of the family, however I worry what may happen to the dogs when/if there is a crackdown on their ownership. I remember hearing what the taliban did to pet dogs in Afghanistan when they came to power and it was cruel and inhumane, hopefully it wont happen in Iran

Such beautiful little pups I couldn't pick a favourite, they are all kissable, you did well not to bring one home, it would have been very tempting;)

Dogo Argentino I fell in love with the Dogo Argentino after watching the Argentinian film "BonBon" however a specialised breed that isn't allowed in Australia I think? I am happy to admire them from afar

Looks like the weather will be good for tomorrow, but I have to work Have a great day everyone and yogi and I will see you all in December

I dont own a Pit Bull however one of my dogs is a Bull Arabx and is often misidentified as an Am Staff or Pit Bull type. I can assure you I am not a bogan, I am a middle aged funeral director, I dress more like a nanna than a body builder yet I love Bull breeds and am happy to admit it

I thought there must have been something else in there, thanks Poodlefan
-
Silken Windhounds- They were developed by crossing Borzois with Whippets, I am not sure why anybody would want to bastardize two such nice breeds though A lot of photo's I have seen of them show very different types within the breed, very much like a Lurcher I feel.

Fascinating thread Poodlefan, I had no idea at some of the colours that could occur, genetics is an incredible thing. Slightly off topic but when I was young I had a Cremello pony(cream coat, pink skin, blue eyes) he had to be stabled during the day in summer, always coated, zinc cream and fly veilled to try and protect him from the harsh summers, not a practical colour for Australia and unfair on the pony in a way, but now people are deliberately breeding Cremellos and I think this is wrong and like certain dog genetic problems associated with colour it is the animal that suffers in the long run. I appplaud ethical breeders who put animal welfare before colour popularity and make the hard decisions

I wish I hadn't watched the footage Very poorly handled by police and rangers, a little bit of calmness and compassion and it would have been contained far quicker and more humanely. Why were the pups taken as they looked to be in a pen The owner of these dogs is the villain not the dogs themselves, why is he walking free whilest his dogs are paying with their lives Tapferhund, I didn't see any PitBull in these dogs so please dont make judgements such as that and also not all Bull breed owners are bogans and bad owners dont buy into the media hype with such generalisations

Sarbi's journey to Afghanistan and back is nothing short of an epic journey, I hope one day they write a book about it.... I am so glad the defence force has allowed Sarbi to come home

Because people automatically assume that when there is a dog attack it would be the staffy side of the cross that is responsible for such attacks.....given that labradors were not bred originally as fighting dogs may have something to do with the negative public's perception of staffies. Dog attack figures show time and again that Bull breeds aren't any more likely to be involved in attacks per se, given the number of Bull breeds and their crosses out in the community they are more common than other types of dogs, add to that % the number of dogs falsely identified as a Bull Breed you have some seriously skewed statistics. Remember always that statistics can be manipulated to fit certain agendas and should be taken with a pinch of salt. People who have a particular hatred of certain types of dogs should question whether such hatred and vitriol is warrented, we are all dog lovers

I have had two bitches in the past but never again, my two had lived together for six years when one day down the beach they ran into each other as they were playing, it was the most awful dog fight I have ever witnessed and cost me many thousands of dollars at the vets to have them repaired, from that day on they were seperated at all times. Please listen to the advice given to you on this thread by some very knowledgeable dog trainers/behaviourlists and think twice before re-homing a problem dog there are many things that can befall a dog worse than a humane euthanasia.

klw, it is obvious by your posts that you dislike Amstaffs/Bullbreeds. Time and again it has been said that it is not the breed it is the deed, there are many factors that contribute to dog attacks, the type or breed of the dog doesnt come in to it. Factors include-socialisation, envoironment, deprivation of assets, chaining of dogs, abuse and cruelty, socio economic bracket of owner, lack of training. It is ignorance and blind belief in media hype that has caused the murder of thousands of family pets throughout the world, shame on any dog lover who believes the slanderous lies without doing some of their own research on Bullbreeds

Tret The Parkour Dog From The Ukraine
Robbi replied to koalathebear's topic in General Dog Discussion
What an amazing, talented dog :D I was too worried about the spunky little guy hurting himself half the time -
Your post proves the point of the poem perfectly, it is people like you who's bigotry and ignorance are causing the death of thousands of innocent dogs. This is a tribute to Pitbulls and Bullbreeds not another thread trying to feed the hatred against them

Yes it is, Bruce became the poster boy of bsl in Northern Ireland, he brought thousands of people together to try and fight the barbaric legislation. Fortunately Bruce survived his cruel imprisonment and is now in the care of East Galway Animal Rescue (EGAR)

I cant praise Topspot kennels more highly, I would not send my dogs(and cat) anywhere else, they are caring and professional My dogs have just come home from a few days at Topspot and have been well cared for and loved, Abbie is a rescue dog and was an unknown quantity as to how she would cope but she was fine, Yogi is my spoilt little prince but is always happy to go to the kennels
