  1. If you dont mind him inside why dont you try him sleeping inside with you? I find that most dogs prefer sleeping inside with their owners, especially labs!
  2. Hi there, Northern Suburbs dig training in Carine offer puppy classes on a sunday morning, i am going to take my boy to the puppy classes at the vets down the road from me. My pup is going to be 8 weeks on 6 June I only get him then. Would love to see pics, there is a labrador thread under the breed specific threads, the people there are also very helpful.
  3. I stopped at the vet near my home last week as I am getting a puppy in 2,5 weeks time, they give the second vac at 10 weeks and its a new shot, you dont take them for any more vacs after that for a year. Has anybody heard of this??
  4. Yes I will definatly leave him on the same food he gets at the breeder for awhile, I will also ask the vet when I take him for his vaccs what they recommend.
  5. Hi all, I am getting a labrador puppy in a few weeks and I am unsure what to feed him, the breeder recommends Advance and they make a specific large breed puppy food, I on the other hand had a look at the Iams Healthy Naturals and I like the look of that but it isn't large breed specific. I am a bit confused now as to which one I should feed? I went to the vet near me today and I found out the price of microchipping, does $60 sound reasonable??
  6. I hate them not being home, mine are in JHB until 13 august, they fly to Perth that day and come out sometime in September. Its 7 months in total from RSA to Australia.
  7. I also tried my best with the ridgebacks but the dogs never learnt, my cats were one and two when I got the pups, even though they were young they never accepted the dogs and the dogs never stopped chasing the cats, dogs thought it was a fun game to chase them. Will post back if i get it right with the lab and the cats...
  8. Tried for 10 years to stop the dogs chasing the cats, unfortunatly only the one dog stopped, the other one is a bit of a free spirit ADD dog. My cats are in quarantine on their way to me in Perth and the dogs are staying with my mom. I am getting a lab puppy in 4 weeks and I am going to try my best to teach him that chasing is not allowed! Its easier when you only have 1 puppy at a time, even if i have to keep him on a lead inside he will listen!!
  9. My ridgebacks used to do the same thing, they loved to chase the cats!!
  10. I am glad to have read this post, I am getting a black male lab the first weeknd in June and I am worried about what toys to get him, surely the stuffed toys with squeeky things in cant be too safe as they could choke on the squeek bit if they get to it?
  11. My ridgeback x bullmastiffs grew to be about 50Kg's, they are 9 years old now. As pups i used to not walk them far but i took them to a horse stable and they used to run around for hours! The ground was mostly soft though and they have no joint problems as such. Dont know if this is helpful but this was my experience.
  12. I think trust your instincts, if you are not happy then dont go back.
