Great minds Huski.. ;) guys just out of interest, what age do you think is an okay time to intro a young dog to a dog park ? Or is it not about age, is it about maturity ? In which case our labs won't be there until aged 3 !! I will just keep Mason at home then, pity he wont get any other dog interaction except at training. Maybe I will get another dog so that he doesnt miss out on socialisation.

I will try see if there is puppy kindy here in WA but i must say I have not heard of any. At our club where we belong the pups go to pup school until 16 weeks and then go to obedience class 1A. There is no kindy there but I will google it and find out. If the dogs are on lead, he is fine with them, its just the offlead ones he has a problem with, and not all of them he rolls over for, some he has no issues with. I personally feel if people have their dogs off lead if they call them they must come back, if the dogs are disobedient they must stay on lead.

My problem is that I dont have many friends with dogs as I have just moved to australia and the ones that do have dogs I dont trust their dogs not to play too rough. I kind of dont have a choice with the growling, if people dont keep their dogs on lead and control them what must I do? My yard has harldy any grass and I cannot keep him away from other dogs forever.

My puppy was vaccinated for C5 at 10 weeks and we were able to socialise him 14 days after this. We have benn taking him to dog parks keeping him on lead, off lead dogs always come up to him, he starts playing with them, they roll him over and he just lies there. Is this normal puppy behaviour or is he very submissive? He does not roll over in puppy class with dogs his own age. PS... some of the older dogs growl at him as well...

We had a staffy when i was a kid, she slept outside and was an only dog, she hated being on her own and my mom eventually gave her to my uncle where she slept inside on his bed and had another dog for company, she was much happier and lived to 16 years old.

I agree you cannot get a dog and not let it inside at all, it wont feel at all part of the family. I wouldnt make my cat sleep outside either...

My puppy is fully vaccinated if you dont mind, my vet uses a new C5 done at 10 weeks and then a year later, so I would check the facts first before you make assumptions.

My 12 week puppy seems to have had a running eye since yesterday, its not running a lot just now and then you can see it has run onto his cheek. He was at a park on Sunday with a lot of sand where there were loads of dogs running around and the sand was going everywhere. Could he have sand etc in his eye?

I recently got a puppy and I went around to all the vets in my area and picked on I liked, the one I chose does the C3 at 6 weeks and then the new C5 at 10 weeks, this is the only vac they receive until a year later... I am hoping this new vac is effective as I wouldnt want anything bad to happen to my new puppy.

My puppy makes those noises too, plus he snores and does other weird noises.

Sound advice. I believe we over-vaccinate in this country. I gave my 2 afghan babies a 3rd vacc and they were very ill for several days. Would only ever do 2 again and not close together. Good luck with your pup. The vet that I used does one at 6 weeks and then one at 10 weeks, its supposedly some new thing where they dont do a 3rd vac, shame my poor baby got a bit chesty after the kennel cough vac that went up his nose.

I got my lab from a breeder that breeds the 'show' type labradors and 2 of his siblings from the same litter went to be guide dogs.

I feed Advance Puppy Growth Large breed, my breeder said to always soak the pellets. My pup doesn't drink all that much water, well not more than other dogs I have had.

My puppy gets them all the time too. Going to the vet later, will ask about this.

Hi there, I have a 10 week old puppy, he had is C5 vaccinations on saturday. Last night at 3h30 in the morning I woke up to him sounding like he had what we humans would describe as bronchitis ( his chest sounded wet, dont know how else to describe it)and he made choking noises after about 20 mins of being up and about he sounded normal again, just snored a lot. We are quite worried about it and this morning he seems fine, is eating etc but i phoned the vet and they want to see him later today. The vet nurse asked me to not bring him into the waiting room and when we get there we must go straight through to the consulting room as he could have something contagious, he has only been out my yard to go and get the vaccination! In the back of my mind i still think its the kennel cough vaccine that went up his nose. Thoughts?

My neighbours cat comes across and even comes inside, I dont mind as she is a sweet thing, when I got Mason she came over a few times and he licked her and played with her... however he got too rough one day and she slapped him with her paw, she never hurt him though but I am glad she put him in his place as he must learn not to chase cats and not to hurt them.

Hi all, Mason is fine as of last night, he ate lunch at 12 and vomited at 4 so I dont think it was the running around, he ate dinner and was fine, hasnt thrown up since!

No he has not eaten anything different. He finds stuff to eat in the garden, snail shells leaves etc, he is a lab and will eat anything he finds...

My puppy of 10 weeks ( tomorrow) has just thrown up 3x in half an hour, all that came up is food. SHould I take him to the vet? He was running around but has now laid down and gone to sleep, he was trying to eat it each time he threw up but i stopped him.

Funny you should mention this as my dog Mason ( nearly 10 week old lab) has been doing exactly this, I feed him dinner and a few hrs later he is back in the kitchen staring at the counter and crying when we go in there. I havent adjusted his food since I got him 2 weeks ago but today I increased it a bit and I think I will start feeding him a bit more from now.

I gave her her first chicken wing tonight. she chewed it quite a bit ... didn't really try to swallow it whole or anything... i was a bit scared too so I stayed with her while she ate it. bones and all The first time i tried to take it off her she growled at me ! then she kept running away with her chicken when i tried to take it off her. I always gave it back to her... just trying to get her used to people messing her food and not becoming over protective. did you have a similar reaction at all? I give Mason chicken necks, i cut them in half and then watch him eat a piece at a time, he enjoys them.
