Hi Paptacular, there are no health issues with mating a non-black to a non-black, it is only a colour gene as in Labs. The risk you run by putting non-black to non-black for several generations is that you weaken the pigment and don't end up with the black pigment which is required in our breed standard.

What breed is this? 1kg new borns! If they were 1Kg at birth they would be massive Schipperke pups Our usually double their weight easily in the first week but our current litter were just under. They have made up for it since ;)

Got up at 4am, had breakfast and went back to bed luckily

Our whelping box is set up in the lounge room with a puppy pen around it. I sleep in there for a couple of nights before whelping and a couple after. Our bitches usually stay with their pups except for a short pee break for at least a week or two but the puppy pen is open should they want to go out.

One of our bitches mates once and once only and that is on day 19 but she is also very picky about who she will mate and won't go to any dog except for her chosen one :D We've never had such a PIA before but so far she has had two litters of four pups.

I steward at obedience trials as well as judging and stewarding at clubs fun days. Don't do much at shows though except for donating prizes at times.

Looks like there will be some big baby puppy classes for Schipps in a few months if we all get pups that we are happy with

Wilma delivered 6 puppies yesterday, four males, two females all black.

I made foam crate mats for the whelping box which I just throw in the washing machine, have got 6 of them so always another on hand.

Our last litter had the first pup born at 11.48pm and the second pup born at 11.55pm, the next two were born after midnight. The date of birth for the litter had to be the date the first pup was born on even though they just scraped in to that date.

Pretty sure it's only available from a vet but if you know someone who has livestock they usually have some and may give you a small bottle.

We sometimes get the same problem from the septic lines running through our house yard. We give Scourban and it fixes them in no time at all.
