  1. Thanks everyone - as you say, Danny's Darling, he is the most super little chap - so full of life, so kind and loving too. I would hate to think that we have caused anything to upset him...but as you've all suggested, it might be health related, even though it seems to manifest itself in strange behaviour. I have also noticed that he is licking his feet more - which he never really did. I guess these are all questions I have to raise on Saturday with the vet. Hopefully, it's something very routine and can be resolved easily. He's too precious to be suffering.

Hope you are able to get some answers and help him with it Pollywaffle !

thank you! Hopefully it is ageing!

  3. Our beautiful little boy, Basil (maltese x) suffers from big dog syndrome - thinks he's 150 metres tall and built like a truck - and fearless. But at the tender age of 9 he has all of a sudden, become totally terrified of our washing machine...when I put a load on he starts shaking and then runs, cowering to the other end of the house..where he sits until the load is done. I was just wondering if this is an age specific problem and whether any of your ageing dogs have displayed similar strange behaviour - I can't think that OH or I have caused this reaction, so am hoping it's age

  4. Hey guys, thanks again for all the advice.

I contacted the council, they will not come out themselves but stated i have the legal right to trap the cats and take them to the AWL.

Then they will be scanned for a chip and if found suitable may b put up for adoption, or be euthanised depending on capacity/temprement etc.

I tried a few rescues, most are at capacity and cannot accept anymore. One rescue did state realistically if the cats have such poor temprements they may not pass the temprement test and may be euthanised anyway. They also cannot accept if im not the owner. They recommened council advice of cat traps and handing into AWL.

At thsi stage i cannot mentally deal with this right now knowing in all honesty they (or at least the big one) will be PTS.

So i will continue to feed them, make sure they have water and shelter and give it another couple of weeks, then ill make a descision.

Im pretty angry and upset that it has been left to us to have to deal with the heart breaking reality of taking them to the awl knowing they wont come out. They are not ours yet we have to deal with the consequences of idiot owners.

Oh and i did try the rspca twice..... on hold for half hour both times as of yet havent spoken to anyone.

I feel for you Cleveland. It is wrong that someone else' sheer disregard for the animals' welfare has become your responsibility. Unfortunately you seem a compassionate soul so what can you do but what you are doing. It is wrong on every level that you should have to shoulder responsibility for this.

  5. Why isn't the council or the RSPCA doing more to educate the public around this issue? There is no reason in this day and age for people to accidentally breed not once but twice! Mandatory desexing!!!!!

Oh and I hope they are able to re-do the bedrooms of one of those kids to make the new pup feel the love and security it deserves!

A very sensible suggestion..they could relocate the kids to the backyard; hopefully somewhere where they will get little interaction with humans; no point starting something you can't continue. In the new bedroom, perhaps a lovely bone motif on the walls and gold rimmed cage and a few pairs of someone's shoes...

  6. Personally, I find it terrible that people are so flippant about their children. How many times have we seen this happen? Dog comes along and goodbye children. People shouldn't be allowed to have children if they think they are so disposable. It's disgusting. :mad

trouble is there's so many children around and very little is done about proper breeding controls...we should be actively promoting desexing. At the moment, supply outstripping demand...

  7. I hate to say this, but if he's an old dog, then somebody is doing something right in regard to his welfare. Some dogs are brought up society savy....they seem to know where the dangers are...perhaps leave best alone. Not what I would normally advocate - would usually go for intervention..but you've said yourself, he's cared for in a slightly indifferent way, so why change the status quo.
