  1. I wish there was a Lure Coursing club in SW Vic. My Boxer Rocky LOVED Lure Coursing. I reckon my Labrador Molly would love Dock diving. That'd be fun too!

    I do agree though that you can NOT do Obedience & Conformation together - unless you were training for automatic stands (stack) instaid of auto sits.

    There's no fun stuff here in Hamilton - only show training, and I don't have a show dog. Ho-hum...

  2. WEIA,

    Thanks for that I didnt even think of those things but you do need to think out side the square some time.

    Cheers Janet

    I actually saw a lady in the ring on the weekend with a walking frame. I thought it was a bit strange actually - couldn't someone have run the dog around the ring for her? She was going about 1m every 5 seconds, and I reckon her "running the dog around the ring" she travelled about 6m in total? I felt kinda bad for her - I don't know anything about showing, but if I had a VicDogs membership, I would have offered to do it for her.

    We were lucky with the wheelchair, as that person was in our Dog obedience club, so Rocky got really used to the sound of the motorised wheelchair, and VERY steady in his downstays, not even moving his head to look at it when we left.

  3. Which reminds me that I will have to bring at hat to training as there was a jusge wearing a hat and I noticed it did put some of the dogs off when he was doing the hands on stuff.

    So if someone is happy to wear it and go over my boy for me I would be greatful.

    But it would prob be good for all the dogs to have someone wearing a hat go over them.

    Oh and your going to laugh but a skirt is something that I am aware that he is very unsure of. (hhmmm note to ones self maybe better start wearing skirts)

    Some other stuff you should get your dog used to is a walking cane, walking frame, and wheelchair. I am NOT kidding. We've had either judges or co-competitors with these up in Qld back when I was training & trialling my Boxer, Rocky.

    HTH?

  4. Was nice to meet you, WEIA! Hope you had a great day.

    Your Lara is beautiful! :laugh:

    Awww thanks Jerojath!

    Yes it was lovely meeting you also! I expect to see you in my neck of the woods next show up this way. Same goes for you too Pandii! Lovely to meet you, and I expect to see you at Hamilton next time. :thumbsup:

  5. I have no idea about clips. I don't know much about showing in general.

    My daughter Lara & I just went for a look-see. She was lucky enough to get kissies from an import puppy Boxer, a longhaired Dachshund pup, and a couple viszla pups too :D She was sooooo good for me as usual, sat still, stayed quiet & just watched.

    We got a little burnt though. OOPS!

  6. Any group 7/poodle results?
    I was actually watching poodles. I don't know any names, but I THINK the Standard Poodle who got BOB was a blue/silver? It wasn't black, it wasn't white, it was a grey colour. The lady seemed quite shocked that her non-traditional coloured dog won. :D

    Can you tell I know nothing about poodles? :D

    And it had a lot more hair, than what is the traditional show clip with lots of pom poms. No shaved bits that I could tell.

  7. Hi all,

    Just wondering if anyone knows when Boxers (& Labs too I guess) are on both Saturday & Sunday? OH said something about maybe staying somewhere the night, but not 100% sure atm. I suggested the Caravan park, but then he said might be booked by doggy people. Duh me - didn't even think of that! :mad

  8. I think the 30 and 31st of January, might pay to check though

    Would love to meet you :)

    Same Pandii :thumbsup:

    I usually only go to Warrny when I need to get something from K-Mart, Spotlight, Bunnings etc, which isn't very often.

    I will have to find my friends the "Kesdar" Boxer crew - will probably go on the Sat, as OH starts work early on the Monday.

  9. Why do people complain about the cost of products mark up?

    How exactly are Vets supposed to make money if they don't mark up the price of products? The Vets I worked at had a limit of 2 surgeries/day - just 1 Vet on at a time, so just appts in morning & arvo, and surgery during the middle of the day. There has to be some way to make enough money each day to pay the Vet, and 2 nurses on, and the consultation & operations alone won't pay that so of course there will be more than 10% (GST) price rise in the products too.

  10. :thumbsup::clap: :clap:

    I'd like to see all you people complaining set up a Vet practice, with just the basic equipment (this includes x-ray machine, & developer, which you may use once a week if you're lucky!, fluids machine which won't get much use unless you use it routinely for every surgery, ultrasonic descaler for dentals - again once a week?, oh and your basic anaesthetic machine, and autoclave), a fully stocked surgery (with expensive meds you may not even use ie snake antivenom), computer system etc, employ a Vet and support staff, and run it as a profit like you're all suggesting! I'll come stock up on free scripts, or cheap drugs, before you close in a month if your lucky (I won't work for you though, as you'd never be able to pay me!).

    :scold::rofl: :rofl:

    Also comparing a local Vet to a specialist centre is like comparing chalk & cheese. They will use their state of the are equipment more, will stock less drugs, and charge more for consults. If you need any ongoing drugs, you can get those from your local Vet.

    WEIA is :rofl:

    No one seems willing to take me up on the above offer... I was hoping for cheap meds & free scripts...

    Woe is me.

  11. As stated in an earlier reply I have friends in the industry. I note that no one has disputed the quoted cost price figures to Vets.

    Maybe because they, like myself, have never heard of them? But then I worked in a small practice, and didn't have a hugely stocked pharmacy.

    Oh and I know what products we bought cost us, because I did all the ordering in our practice. I only ordered what we needed when we needed it, and we had minimal write-offs because I was on the ball. The computer might have said we needed something, but really we used it that rarely that it could wait a month or 2 until we really did need it.

  12. Even if its true (which i don't think it is for most) that vets are earning millions of dollars a year- whats the problem? Why should a vet caring for your pet be less worthy of high salaries and profit than a business manager or CEO?

    Well I can say now - in the Vet Surgery I was working at (a 2 Vet, 3 nurse practice), we were lucky to get an average of $30K a month profit after all staff, accounts, and rent were paid. Not much in the grand scheme of things.

  14. There's only been 1 instance where I've needed to get a script for my cats, and that was because the Vets didn't sell it themselves. I was more than happy to pay the $16.50 fee for them to write the script out for me, as I don't expect them to work for nothing.

    Oh and when I worked as a Vet Nurse, we paid cost + 10% (GST), so as if a customer would get it at that price. Mark up started at 40%, and didn't go over 100%. Dispensing fee didn't go over $7 either.

    -WithEverythingIAm

  15. When receiving a bill I would like to be charged for the consultation and the cost of medications/drugs plus a small mark up of around 10% to cover expenses.

    :):laugh::)

    You're funny! Do you expect the same thing at the supermarket, the newsagent, and the petrol bowser also? Oh and what about your local Doctor?

    Priceless! :)
