How To Stop A Dog From Mouthing The Dumbbell
bedazzledx2 replied to LabRat32's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Go back to square one....you have progressed to fast and she doesn't know her job. Remember your foundation training!!! Throwing the dumbbell is the last bit and until you have a good hold in close you don't go any further. Have a look at this site http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/retrieve.html -
Nup.... I've been humbled too many times!!!! I go into the ring knowing what I've trained and what he is capable of and the rest is in the lap of the gods!!!

I've just had a look at my puppy's vacination certificate and have noticed that his first 2 vacs at 7 weeks and then 9 weeks were Protech C3 and then the 12 week booster is Canvac C3. Should this make any difference?

The judge will ask you 'are you ready?' before offering the article. Once you say 'yes' you are under judges orders and cannot speak to your dog without penalty. My kelpie used to peek and I always copped a point under certain judges. Their reasoning was that it wasn't perfect in their eyes. She was a cheeky bitch and I figured there was no point in hassling her over it.

Huge congrats .... all that hard work and dedicated training paid off in spades!!! Well done!!! having a little drinkies here to celebrate Moo's 1st UDX quallie!!! WTG ;) Have to say I was really pleased with Brookie's efforts tonight...no training other than UDX (which he's way not ready for) and he nailed Open and only dropped 2 points in UD until he confused gloves with the cloths and dropped it on the way in and turned around to go look for the 'right' one...shite!!!! Have just opened a popping bottle and sharing BBQ chips with the kids because WE ARE CELEBRATING Scoota's first UDX pass with 196 A pass in UD with 196 A second to Brookie on a countback in open with 195 and a third place in open behind Brookie and Moo for Beans Boy am I a happy girl

The wire compost (leaf litter) cages at Bunnings are only $25 and come in separate panels. Get a couple and join them together to make a temporary fence. I have put them around small shrubs and pot plants to keep puppy away. They have these not so easy spring thingies to attach the panels together but you can use cable ties...much easier

Took my lot into the yard for a toilet break the other day when it was 40 C ...the 8 year old lay down in the full sun so the puppy decided to do the same...Duh what's up with that???? I don't care if they like it, its too damn hot for me so they all got called inside into the air con again!!!

Shaping And Clicker Training
bedazzledx2 replied to Scarlett Dog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Shirley Chong's site is always a good start http://www.shirleychong.com/ so is this one http://www.fannygott.com/ and this one http://www.dragonflyllama.com/%20DOGS/Leve...LevelsBook.html -
Can't help you with Bishons as they are not my breed but I know many breeders have boarding kennels in Southern River. Doesn't mean they are puppy mills. Have you been down to the Shows? Thats probably the best place to meet a few breeders.

This was posted on another list... perfect example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noX2xcUg0IE...player_embedded and this
-
Perfect example is that silly woman encouraged by that silly Bondi Vet dressing her puppy in dog clothes purchased from a shop that make squillions out of it!!! Stupidity!!!
-
I don't charge the clicker either. I just don't think its necessary when you are playing shaping games. I find the dogs catch on real quick the correlation between behaviour - marker (click) and treat.

If people don't like the rules as written there is an opportunity to submit your proposed changes in writing when the revisions come up every 5 years. This is well advertised on the lists and through the individual states canine. The most recent revision was last year and ratified by the ANKC with the changes effective January 2011 http://www.ankc.org.au/Rules.aspx

That's a worry...hope he's ok

I use a medium for Brookie and his mouth is much bigger than the tollers!!!! I don't like dumbbells that are too big as they can wobble around and cause mouthing. Of course you can (and should ) train a solid hold on anything but hey!!! So I would go for a large? Mason is a lot bigger than the tollers
-
Seen this? Yip, Mason and more often than not the cat Socks gets us up before we ready - and Socks is such a pest once he decides its time for us to get up and open the back door for him so he can go and play in the garden
-
Handing in my licence as of the day that comes in!!!!!
-
Good luck with that...usually my dogs manage to wake me up early on a planned sleep in day!!!!
-
ditto!
-
Woo Hoo!!! Well done Ptolomy and Strauss!!!! Poor Soggy...

Because no other discipline requires either a single word or a specific word. The rules state that a single word or signal may be used. For example you may not say "get it" or "line up" etc. How is a judge meant to know what the translation in a foreign language is? One word or two???? If this is the reason why English is stipulated, then why is it not applied to ALL other ANKC disciplines?.(Which it is not) I don't see the logic in this. I believe these days, that the Agility judges usually have a lot more dogs to get through, so how does this help them, when any language can be spoken in the Agility ring?

I teach sit separate to heelwork and don't forget that sit in heel position is very different to sit in front. At the same time I teach my foot cue. Doesn't matter which foot you cue off as long as you are consistent. So for me its stop on the right and close with the left and I teach it by single stepping which has the advantage of teaching a nice skip sit at heel. Recipe... have dog sitting, step forward on right foot, lure forward and sit with the left foot and treat high enough to have high head but not enough for him to jump up. Also ensure you treat with the dogs head straight not curled into you. Rinse and repeat

Brookie will be an only child tomorrow night!!! Zac is still too young and hasn't been fully vaccinated yet. That is because we all talked too much the last couple of days Bedazzled your boy is soo cute! Will be be there tomorrow night? Emery, your crew look great... although they don't look that impressed having their photos taken - particularly whichever girl (assuming it is Kelari) has her face in the sun
